You're right, sorry. The first subs I heard were at San Jose dealer Garland Audio, who was a Wilson dealer. It was the huge subwoofer boxes of the Wilson WAMM speakers. To show what a bargain Rythmik subs are, all of them are superior to the subs of the Wilson WAMM (I heard them again not too long ago, at Brooks Berdan's house), and that was a $90,000 speaker (in '70's dollars) with subs containing 18" drivers. I haven't heard Wilson's current separate subs, but it wouldn't surprise me if Rythmik's are better music reproducers.
As a long-time enthusiast, I'm here to tell anyone in his or her twenties, thirties, and even forties, that this is a great time to be an audiophile and/or videophile, or just a music/movie lover. The level of hi-fi performance currently available at given price points is the highest it has ever been, IMO. All of the Internet Direct subwoofer companies (but especially Rythmik, of course
) offer products of very high value. Not just very high performance, but at very reasonable prices. Yes, prices of the extreme high-end products are at an all-time high (at, IMO, vulgar, maybe even obscene, prices), but the level of performance available at low-to-moderate prices is at an all-time high. This occurred to me while reading the candidates nominated on Brian's design collaborator Dannie Richie's GR Research's "All-Time Greatest Bargains" thread on AudioCircle. Yes, the Dynaco and Advent speakers from the 60's and 70's were bargains, but I think Rythmik subs and GR Research speaker kits are even greater bargains. Rythmik's level of subwoofer performance has never before been available, not just at it's price, but at ANY price. And the tweeter used in the GR Research N Series and OB speakers is a State-Of-The-Art tweeter, the assembled Neo 3 Tweeter/GR Mid-Woofer/and Dannie's crossover resulting in a speaker comparatively priced with, but providing performance far superior to, those classic speakers.
