@ Cowboys
Thanks.
Just realized that "550" is written on the amp plate. Oh..silly me.

Ok ,as the good doctor ordered, and as he shipped the beast. One earplug in the gorilla's left nostril......to calm the beast just a touch, command him to walk a tighter line (14hz, high dampening).

One of the greatist musicians of all times imo, live at the Royal Festival Hall, circa 2006.

Ok, I won't bore you guys any further with images smile.gif
And I forgot...the music sounds FANTASTIC.

Gilmore with a guitar other than a Strat!

Oops, Gilmour.

Is there any ETA on the new amps with XLR inputs?
I believe they are the HX600 and HX800?
Right now, i'm looking just for the amps but plan on getting drivers and amps in the future.
Thanks

The XLR2 and XLR3 amps are available. The manuals can be downloaded now
XLR2 sealed version quickguide
XLR2 vented version quickguide
XLR3 sealed version quickguide
XLR3 vented version quickguide

HX800 will be available for XLR3 version only. They are scheudled mid Dec to end of Dec. The HX600 is still waiting if the supplier can find a good supply source for mini-XLR.

Just purchased a FV15HP, love it! I was curious, do most of you guys plug one of the ports? I could tell immediately the difference in music when I closed one of the ports. It seemed to hit harder lower.

Brian suggested to me that I plug one of the ports since I will be listening to the sub at low levels.

DataBass has a pretty nice article comparing the two ports here: http://www.data-bass.com/data?page=system&id=51 However, they recommend having both ports open for less distortion above 20hz and less wind noise.

In real world application, which do you feel is supeior, 1 or 2 ports?
I go with Brian. DataBass recommendation is based on lower distortion, more output, and less port noise based on the extreme upper end of end output performance of the FV15-HP. With one port plugged, set at 14hz/1 and med or high dampening, you get extension down to 14 hz. Especially for one who plays their system at moderate to low volumes (sane), its the proverbial no brainer.

Listen to the designer, the engineer, the guy who put it all together smile.gif

Oh I definitely am :-). Brian has been awesome. Just was curious what others have done in their homes. Thanks for the response and clarification!

Wow which sub did you get? No wonder I blew my knee out carrying my sub up three flights of stairs lol.

Dual FV15HPs. I will be enlisting some help to carry mine.

Looking for help in comparing the D15SE to the E15. Wondering if anyone has heard them side-by-side and can comment on sound/power differences? Barring that, can anyone comment on the differences between the A370PEQ3 and the H600PEQ3 amp? I would really like it if they offered the D15 with the H600PEQ3 to make sure I don't get something under powered for my room (about a 13x22 room w/ 8' ceilings, but wide open to the kitchen and open to a living room). However, I do like the ~1000 price tag on the D15 vs. E15 and I also think the down firing driver would give me more piece of mind with little kids and a cat. Not sure if will be too boomy on a hardwood floor above a basement with no insulation though? Appreciate any input.

BTW, have an SVS PC12 Ultra I want to replace for form factor/WAF in new family room.

Just an FYI.....I used an old blanket to unpack (opened the box bottom then roll it over sideways carefully to "drop out" the sub) and "pull" around my FV-15, worked like a charm. Did it all by myself using the blanket as a skidder. Not much help for 2nd story or stairs thou, and the FV is big and heavy.
Brian packs these babies really nice let me tell you, double boxed and foam padded corners smile.gif

My bass memory from three/four months ago is pretty poor, and my hearing is not the best. Not to mention all that has transpired on my end in the last 2.5 months. Who better than the designer and manufacturer? Who has a better sense of sonic accuracy than the product originator?
I got the feeling from Brian's previous response that he'd recommend going sealed, and honestly that's where I think I'd like to be as long as I can get sufficient output for my tastes. I did do some testing over the weekend, and found that my floor-rumble comes into play around +/-20Hz. Perhaps my floor happens to have a resonance mode in that area? In any event, I figure I'll concentrate on output above 14Hz, and treat anything below that as probably-inaudible gravy. I also found that at frequencies that low, I only lost about 6dB from 1m to my seat at about 4m. So to get 90dB at my MLP, I'd only need 96dB from the sub, and it looks like a single F15 can do that at 14Hz easily even before taking corner loading into account.

From an aesthetics perspective, I do like the look of the DS1510 cone, though. Especially in silver. Might push me in the HP direction if I decide to use it with the grill off. Decisions, decisions smile.gif

I wonder... since the driver and amps are the same, you could always get/build an extra sealed enclosure and swap the components between for whatever you felt like that day wink.gif

David, I like your logic.
So many changes on my end, my large, open LR (about 7200 cf) had carpet before, now all ceramic tile. Acoustically, its probably not too friendly now, as it echos. Built in reverb......go figure.
My F-15 was so sweet then......two would have been HT nirvana. For music, it was perfect.

With respect to the CI plans. I see that the ports listed on the CI page are 3.5 inch double flared ports measuring 19 inch in length. The plans call for 3 inch pvc at 18 inch length. Is the diameter listed for these ports inside diameter or outside diameter?

D15 is regular power subwoofer. E15 has a high power amplifier. Several customers asked me if we can put DS1510/H600 in D15. The answer is no because the reaction force can lift the sub off the floor with DS1510. With regular power amplifier, that wouldn't happen. The sound quality of the two is very much similar. The subfloor is important. I recommend do a stomp test at the designated placement location to make sure the structure in that area is sturdy. Normally the area close to exterior walls is better. BTW, normal fiberglass insulation is not effective for low frequency signals. So if you do add insulation, it will help frequency above midbass, but not on low bass.

That would be pretty cool, seeing a subwoofer levitate! Thanks for the response Brian. If the floor is not sturdy enough, what is the effect? Resonant vibrations - muddied tones? Last question is would the D15 provide enough output for a 3500 sf room open to other rooms?

Yes, the sound will become muddied. You don't really mean 3500 sf room. My entire house is only that big.

+2, I would to know it, too.
Edit, I should read the next thread.

If you can place the sub in the corner, that helps the efficiency. Do you currently have a subwoofer for reference? It varies among customers in terms what is deemed as "loud". So if you currently have a sub, that can give us a better reference point.

Brian, i just about believe if I were to turn my FV15 around in the corner, amp out, the output would be better balanced. Of course who wants to look at the power cable and stuff. Like my old bazookas in the truck. Your thoughts?

I won't be able to corner load due to my room layout. It will likely sit near an interior wall, directly behind an L shaped sectional that makes up the main listening area. So it will only be a few meters from most of the normal listening position. My current sub is an SVS PC-Ultra (12) which I am looking to replace due to the form factor. I typically don't listen very loud due to small children sleeping, but I want something that can give me the output when I want/need it, but also comes in a small, WAF package.

Rough diagram of my room layout with the X being the sub position behind the L sectional. The o's are the front speakers and second inverted L are kitchen cabinets (floor and ceiling with open space between - "open concept").

Lo and behold, hit this site and there is a big Rythmik advert banner at top and box ad at the side, how cool is that?!?

I there going to be a CI dual 12's with the new HX800 amp? If so, how would it compare to a single 600 watt 15 inch?
What would be the preferred box size if so?
