I don't use mine for music. LFE only. My Vandersteen 3A mains are adequate for music (-3dB @ 26 hz).

Here's the way I see your choice, Woody: First decision, sealed or ported? Because 1- Your room is so large 2- You will be using the sub for Home Theater as well as Music 3- You can have one sub, not two= You really have no choice. You HAVE to get a ported sub. If you are going to get a Rythmik ported sub, the second decision is which one (duh!)? Right now the 370w/1505 driver ported sub is out of stock/back-ordered. That makes it easy. If you're buying now, that leaves only the 600w/1510 driver ported Rythmik sub. Everybody who has one loves it. Buy it and thank God you live at a time when a sub like it is available!

Just wanted to post in this forum as a hopeful soon to be owner of a new Rythmik FV15HP with the 550 amp. I am coming from a small 8" sub that was included in my Boston Acoustic MCS100 satellite package from years ago. Cannot wait to get this puppy in my hands and experience what real bass feels like.

After a lot of reading, I'm going with Ascend 340s across the front, 170s in the back, and a FV15HP. I can't wait!

That should be a nice setup there. I was looking into Ascend's, but found some really good deals for 3 eD[c]12's and decided to go the high sensitivity route.

I placed my order late on Friday and just got emailed my tracking number this afternoon...I should see it at my work on Thursday. Can't wait to get it all hooked up this weekend.

No I did not BDP. I found someone on here selling two in Maryland about a year ago and another member that was selling just one back in September up in NY. lol

That is exactly what I did...for a .5dB difference it is worth saving the $100. That pretty much covers most of the shipping and in reality you are not losing that much performance.

I want to chime in here in support of DonH50 i.e. utilizing smaller Rythmik boxes! I have just finished reading the whole 250 pages on this thread and as has been said, a great number of questions and subsequent discussions relate to sub woofer horsepower. Should I buy a 15” instead of a 12”, should I buy two of them, should I order the bigger HP amps and so forth?

Back to DonH50 and smaller can make sense. I have posted a photo of my den and you can see I have a brand new D15SE on the left. I purchased this a month ago to match my 4 year old 12” downward facing Rythmik kit on the right (built from Brian's website DIY plan prior to his offering completed product). As you can see it's gotten a little crowded upfront. Room dimensions are 11'9” across front wall, 15'6” long wall and 9' 5” ceiling= 1700 cubic feet.

After much soul searching, WAF aesthetics primarily, my intention is to replace both of these subs (see Rythmik D15SE in AVS Classified, Audio Gear) with 2 F12's which I feel is plenty of oomph for this room. In fact, because I listen at pretty low levels -average 60db for music (although I do pump it up occasionally to 85db for my JL Fathom owning audio club buddies), 70 for HT- I think after a final discussion with Brian, I will order the F12G version for better low level music articulation while allowing what I think will be plenty of volume left over to handle WOTW, Master and Commander etc. at (ouch!) 95db. I know because I have cranked both movies up with current pair and I won't ever get higher than this in my den.

Oh, this is my last home, so since I will probably expire in this room, I don't need future headroom proofing.

Just my 2 cents going in a different direction.

I should have the 2 F12's in early January and will give you my take on 2 different sealed combinations- 2 forward firing (possibly G12 paper driver) Rythmiks versus 15” and 12” downward facing Rythmiks.

I understand the basics of the Servo technology, (I saw the info on the Rythmik site), but I have a (stupid) question. With a Servo subwoofer, do you need to add a Sub EQ? I currently have 2 Hsu Uls-15's and the AS EQ-1. I am thinking of making a change, or upgrade, to the FV15 HP, or 2. Would I still need to use the AS EQ-1? Thanks in advance, Matt

I would recommend you still use it. It will still help to try and even out the FR of your subs in your environment.

Thanks. I thought that was the answer I would get, just wondering if it would be overkill, or something I could sell to help finance a possible new purchase. As always, I wonder how much of an upgrade the FV15 HP's would be over the HSU ULS 15's?

The servo cleans up the subwoofer's sound considerably by greatly reducing distortion, both general THD and the type of time distortion that happens when the cone "rings" after something like a drum beat. It does nothing to correct in-room response (that is not its function) so you still need something for that.

I've made an order number: 3803248. But i have changed my mind and ordered another item (DS1510 4ohm sealed 3-4 cu ft , with H550PEQ3 servo amplifier).

In this case does anything about shipping change?

There was a ULS 15 and a FV15HP at the last PA GTG, check out that thread for some of the detailed reviews. I arrived a little late, only heard a portion of the ULS demo, and was still getting my bearings so was not really critically listening yet. What I heard sounded good, but I really couldn't compare well enough, look at the thread, graphs included.

There's the whole sealed (more shallow rolloff so potentially deeper but at less output) vs ported (more output down to port tune) difference. Plus the Rythmik is servo based so it is likely a little cleaner. I love my FV15HP, and even though I suspect it to be a bit better than the HSU, I don't think it's a huge gap. I think they are in the same ballpark performance wise. If I were in your shoes it would really depend on how much I could sell the HSU's for, I'd prefer the Rythmiks, but wouldn't drop a grand into a slight upgrade.

Did you see Gorilla's passive caps in the AVS store, that would be a pretty substantial jump up IMO. I was picking pieces of his ceiling out of my hair after that demo. I love my Rythmik but those things are SPL monsters. You'd need to pick up a good pro amp for them too though.

Do you have a buyer for the HSU's?

Hell yeah...just took delivery of my new FV15HP with the 550 amp, man is this thing massive. I expected it to be big, but I had no idea it would be this big. Not to sure this will fit into my Mazda 3 so looks like I need to have one of my buddies come to my work with a truck to get this thing home for me. I will not be able to get to play with this until the weekend though.

Looking at it if I take it out of the box I should be able to get it in, but I would rather not do that. Now that I think of it I can probably just borrow my works truck for the night to get it home.

On a side note I just saw that the released Jaws on BD and apparently it looks spectacular. May have to buy that and watch it once my system is all setup and re-calibrated.

Why was it delivered to your office ?

could be signature required...i sometimes do this if one is needed. otherwise if nobody is home....well....
