After a couple months I finally got my monoprice mount (3725). Framed out my media niche and mounted the sucker up.

Congratulations! Enjoy.

It's not a problem. Panasonics are officially rated for use above a fireplace. Even if they weren't, in my 8 years here i haven't seen a single post about a flat panel TV being damaged from being above a fireplace.

thanks guys. Chimmeny goes up towards the right... but we've never used it, just the heater. Ahhh, San Diego.

What do you guys think of the frame-out?
I'm always overly cautious, and over-build everything. This is my first attempt of going simple. No brackets, just 3.5" deck screws, a little common sense, and finding the studs.
Needless to say I'm still paranoid about it

I like your framing/mounting solution - good idea (here's mine). As long as everything is properly attached to the studs, you should be good.

Welcome aboard.

I think the house will fall down before the plasma. Well engineered. As for the heat, if you just use the gas, it will never get hot enough to bother anything. If you stuff a bunch of hot burning oak firewood you will probably crack the low budget chimmney liner that is common in San Diego fireplaces. (I'm in PQ)

thanks for the reassurance of my frame-out. I had ideas of doubling up 2x4s, deck brackets, and 45* triangulated studs to catch the next stud, but a buddy of mine reassured me that it was definitely overkill.

I actually lived in PQ most of my life, I'm right around the corner in 4s Ranch now. Parents still live in PQ (since 87).
