Remote audio control possible?

Not sure if this is the correct forum so please redirect me if necessary.

I have an interesting dilemma (at least to me) on how I could control the audio volume remotely. Here's my scenario... I have outside speakers for my back patio hot tub area. The speakers are wired to the receiver some 70 feet away inside the house. Receiver is an Onyko HT-S5200 and my outside speakers are some old Yamaha's which I plan on replacing come spring.

My other Receiver is a Denon AVR-790 which I'd rather not use since I'd have to run more speaker wires.

What if any options do I have to control the volume from outside the house? I'd settle for any option (most practical of course) from some wireless remote idea to running another wire and mounting some audio volume knob on the outside of the house.

Many thanks

I use these to control remote speakers. Work great, and mine have lasted almost 20 years now. Although for outdoor use, you will probably want to unplug the transmitter and take it in the house when not using it.

This thing appears to just splice in-line to your existing wires. http://www.tti-plus.com/ProductDetai...www.nextag.com

This one is a couple bucks cheaper. http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/50-7885

I use touch screen device to control volumes (UMPC, Ipod, Iphone, etc)

This is a full house audio distribution solution and you need centralization of components so that you can control them over RS232 (since most sadly can not be controlled over ethernet). You also need home automation software ( I use charmedquark.com) and you need a PC and some video/audioswitches (Extron from ebay).

This is probably overkill for you but just incase you ever considered full house audio/video solutions this is an incredible solution at a fraction of the cost of something like Crestron.

Also keep in mind that with the hard wired volume controls, the volume is the only thing that you can control. With one of the remote extender options you will be able to change sources, radio stations, CD's, CD tracks, etc.

Very nice! Thanks for all the options. I'll explore them all.

The only trouble outdoors is that sunlight tends to drown out an IR signal. As well, with a remote control extender, you may have the ability to control more than just volume, but you wont see what is happening inside at the source. Even if you an change sources or radio stations, etc. you wont see them so it takes some trial and error to find the source/song you are looking for.

MY recommendation these days is the Squeezebox Duet. Its wifi controlled so it will work all over the house and yard, you can select songs/albums or online radio stations and the screen is easy to read. Google it and have a look, I really like mine.
