JBL 2800 Replacement Tweeter

My dad gave me a pair of 2800s and he replaced one tweeter. The problem is that its not compatible and sounds pretty bad.

Getting an original JBL 2600/2500/2800/3800/4800 tweeter is damn near impossible so i'm trying to figure out what would be the correct compatible tweeter. I think they are 8 ohms and 2-23 khz. Don't know about watts.

Any thoughts, ideas? Thanks!

You need an exact replacement for many, many reasons.

Good to know, at least somebody still has them. Looks like they might be expensive ($70+), go figure.

Since that tweeter was used in several JBL models, I might start by searching around for some used ones (ebay/craigslist) to grab that part.

Thanks for the info!

Used is your best bet, as you've found. If you can find them local, chances are they'll be yours for $30-40 or less.

Problem is that 2800's are not of particularly high value so it's unlikely to find anyone parting them out. It might be easier buying another pair so you have one for a matched center and some more spare parts.

If you are unable to find a replacement you may have ok luck buying a pair of replacement tweeters. Parts Express sells a series of Goldwood produced JBL knock-offs that are appropriate given the cost / value here. Might be worth a shot for the $10 or so they would cost.

I can get generic replacement tweeters that I have used before that work fine for the 2800 series. However, they are not the titanium dome.303-778-1617

Yo Dude, I am a AVID JBL Enthusiast and I just had the tweeters replaced on my little 2600s. they now sound like total crap!

What I am going to end up doing is that I am going to go to a Pawn shop and find a pair of 2500s or what ever, and if they have something I will either, do a trade in for the 2600's or I will take out replace my new tweeters with the original from the new speakers that I buy and re-sell the other speakers.
