I have used Panasonic TC-P50VT20EA for a few days now and I noticed this strange brightness changing. It annoyes me quite a lot. I paid 1900EUR to get a good TV, I read several comparisons and articles and was recommended Panasonic Plasma (Google "3d tv face off" -> "3D TV face-off: Panasonic VT20 vs Samsung C8000 vs Sony HX903"). Several other sites also recommended plasma because of the good image quality. Well, is this the best picture I can get? Not very good then. I liked my Sony CRT better, the image was of course soft but no errors. My only consolidation is that I am not alone with this, the phenomenon is real and not in my eyes. What I would like to do is punch in to face of the engineer who came up with the idea of ABL. Actually, the problem is same as with all automatic features: how to turn it off?
I don't care about the power consumption. I want a good image quality. It's the job of engineers to provide me one. If bright image uses a lot of power then the power supply needs to be big enough.
I wonder if "Shop mode" would override ABL...
