Mac Powerbook/macbook and SXGA+ resolution

Please help!

My friend just bought a Canon XEED SX6 projector with a resolution of
1400x1050 ( SXGA+ ). He can´t choose that resolution from his Mac Powerbook G4 17" (graphicscard ATI Radeon 9700).

Doesn´t Mac laptops support SXGA+?

It´s a shame if he can only use 1024x768 since he is a photographer and wants to use it for slideshows.

It doesn´t seem like my new Macbook (oct 2009) supports that resolution either.

Anyone know how to solve it?

Supported resolutions vary from video card to video card and that particular resolution is not common. Now I am not all that familar with Mac's, but I know there are downloads that can convert resolutions....I just had to do this for my father and got a free download at www.download.net.

In any event, I would bet there is a similar for the Mac.

The Macintosh video drivers use information from the display to choose what resolutions to display. The display must not indicate that it can accept 1400x1050 timing, or the timing info supplied is outside of the range the video card can support.

Be aware that a Portable Computer may support different resolutions if the display is attached with the screen closed (you'll have to sleep the machine, close the lid, then wake it up with an external USB device) since the video card will have more bandwidth if it doesn't have to drive the internal display as well.

Possibly, but I have seen situtations where PC's don't recognize the resolution, which may be what is happening. Again, I have limited Mac experience.
