I have a Canon ZR930 and I need help. When I transfer the tapes to my PC (Win XP), I get 11GB .avi filles for 60 minutes. When I try to convert those videos to different formats, compress them or edit them I end up with ok video but terrible, garbled, slow sound. Is there something wrong with my codecs, or am I missing something? I've tried already in a few programs but nothing seems to be working. Ideally, what I want to do is transfer them to DVD. Thanks in advance!

I was considering moving my old miniDV recordings to a PC and then burn to a DVD but after many considerations transfer from the camcorder directly to a DVD recorder is the easiest way for me at least. I don't need editing but if you do, PC editing would be the way to go.

If you provide some details on your system configuration, editing software, camera & how you are linking to the PC, you may get responses quicker.

Okay, here goes:

PC specs- Core 2 duo, 1.4 Ghz, 2GB RAM, running XP SP3.
My camcorder (Canon ZR930) is connected via firewire.
As for software, I've tried Windows Movie Maker as well as other software (Power Director etc.) for editing; and for converting (to mpeg, smaller avi files etc.), I've tried countless programs with no luck. I hope this information is sufficient.
