Mini ITX Case

Hiya,

Thinking about building a Core i3 ITX HTPC when more boards come available, but are there any cases out now or planned that are the same size as a Wii/Acer Revo?

Must also have the looks as well!

All the ones i've found tend to be inbetween the Wii and an mATX case.

Thanks

Super! When you say looks exactly like the Revo, it's not the same shape is it, as that's what puts me off the Revo!

If I was mounting one to an LCD screen it's shaped perfectly, but for living room use on a shelf looks a bit naff!

Mmmm this is nice! What would one do re cooling the i3 in such a small box though??

They do say it's prototype only and may not even make it to market!

I've got 3 of these. http://www.mini-box.com/M350-univers...-itx-enclosure They sit flat, though, not vertical.

I don't know if compatible but have you looked at the morex cases:

I am sure the Core i3 cannot demand much airflow. People are running 45nm e5x00s on passive cooling. I have not seen the heatsink/fan that comes with it but judging by the e5400 and e8600 I have I expect it to be a very low profile solution.

Haven't had any problems having mine sit on its side. That Antec case sure does look nice, though. Somewhat irrelevant since I'm just hiding it behind the TV.

I've been a bit sad and emailed Antec suggestions department to tell them to get rid of the extruded grey panel and the front and have the power button and inputs (audio, USB etc) flush with the main black front bit of the case.

Unfortunately mine will be on full display on open shelves, hence sexy as a main requirement.

Love that Antec, but if you're planning to put a BD in it, the cost goes up a lot. It also said that the slimdrive is external... looks like it's internal to me. Not sure what I've going to go for, the Lian Li Q07 looks very nice but is about twice as big as I want. I'm going for a regular sized 5.25" BD in an ITX case.

The new Antec ISK310-150 looks very nice with it's flat silver facade. Alas, it doesn't look like the optical drive is stealthed so adding a slim Blu-ray drive would ruin the looks...

Yup, but Antec's releasing two new versions of the case, this time with a 150W PSU - ISK300-150 and ISK310-150.

Uh, when it comes to computer cases, external means you can access it from outside. It doesn't mean that it sits outside the case.

ic, thanks.

Do you think the 150w would suit an LGA1156 ITX board with an i3 530 (using on die GPU and no PCI card)?

I had seen the new versions, just no release dates, and the ISK300-65 can take up to 100W of power through the internal DC-DC power supply, you just have to upgrade the brick(AC-DC inverter) if you need more power, but they'll be welcome additions to my arsenal of cases when they do drop.

more than enough. Assuming max power on all drives, you might hit 100W, I've seen an ISK300-65 with a 100W external brick feeding a Pentium E5200, slim DVD-RW and a WD green drive on a GF9300 Board, runs beautifully. Probably only needed the upgraded external AC-DC converter due to start-up peak power draw.

How much is the upgrade? I've read about similar upgrades costing over $100.

I never did ask to be honest. I know I've seen some targas ones for laptops running about $60 for 130W universal ones that should work. It's going to be more expensive than the new models, but the new models aren't available yet either.

I am going with this one.

Very nice. Not sure I like the handle on the back though. Can you buy these now? I don't see a "where to buy" link. Hope that 40mm fan is silent.

It is available now. I ordered it. Just google Travla c138.

If the fan is too noisy, I will replace or get rid of it.

Review Here.

any word on the release date?

both on the website now not there a couple of days ago

the ISK310-150 seems perfect if you want the option to add the ceton tuner later, although i would like to see a review confirming the power supply will be sufficient for i3/i5 + hdd + tuner + bluray

Yeah me too... considering the tuner won't be available until 4/1, would be nice to know if I can plan for it. If not oh well, hdhomerun.

I got my case today. It looks very cool, is very well built, and should fit everything that I need it to fit.

I also received a PICO PSU. The Travla comes with a 20 pin ATX connector and it takes up space inside the case. The PICO PSU is a better solution.

Now, if only the H55/H57 itx motherboards would get released . . .

I really like this case for its small size. What processors/cpu coolers do you have in these cases. A core i3 by chance?
thanks,
Murray
