How to degauss monitor?

Thread Starter
I have a Sony 36XS955 and it has a bit of a bloom in the lower left hand corner that is driving me nuts. I was thinking of getting a degaussing coil to fix this. I've used a tape eraser as a crude degausser in the past, but this is my baby, and I wanna be extra careful with it.

So-what exactly is the best way to degauss with the degaussing coil? The way I understand it is that you stand about 2 feet away and you plug it in, then start moving it slowly in a circle and backing up until you are about 10 feet away, then unplug the coil. Let me know if that is the best way to do it, and if not, please instruct me on a better way.

Thanks in advance

Doesn't the TV have a "auto-degausser"?
Do you have any electronics/speakers on the lower left?
Have you tried a hard power cycle (unplug from wall power)?

If the corner persists it's likely that the built-in degaussing is faulty. Your set needs a new PTC thermistor, then it'll fix itself.
