I was figuring on just "moving". But, if we shared channels, we could cut the number of transmitters. Still need new antennas, transmission line, combiners, etc.
Of course, then, we get in to the problems with STLs and PSIP. Have to get the signals up there from different stations' studios, then mux them together and create PSIP and EPG data. Might be better to create a "Master" and "Satellite" station(s) topology, with feeder stations sending across town to a Master station that combines two or three program streams, then muxes them and sends them to the mountain. We have a manned site, but most stations would hate to have mux and PSIP all alone on a remote peak.
I got interrupted yesterday, and forgot the translators. Need a few million to rework all those (120+,IIRC) sites. That's assuming there's any way to even do it with fewer channels. And, it would take several summers to re-do all those sites.
My boss says that he thinks we could do this, if only one station moves to the VHF band. I wonder how good the managers are at "Rock, Paper, Scissors".
Sharing channels might work for a few stations, but most don't want to lose their sub-channels, and the possibility of MPH.
