HTIB Confused about what i need

I have a couple of questions that I need clarrification on, if someone can help that will be great.

I currently have a 46'' Samsung LCD, a PS3 (Original NOT Slim), Xbox 360 (new with HDMI) and a cable box (HDMI).

I'd prefer getting a HTIB becuase of the use of the system, rarely will I ever max out the sound that I would appreciate a good sound system. Its for a room that is 18x18 feet.

My confusion comes with the trueHD sound, since i have an old ps3 does that mean i will not need to buy/look for a receiver that can decode that since the ps3 will do it anyway?

For convenience i'd prefer to have the receiever handle both audio and video over the hdmi, but is there a large cost difference between a receiver that can or can not do this?

I am looking at buying this in canada from bestbuy since i'm able to get a staff discount on it. But its not an absolute as I want a system that fits what i want it to do as appose to saving a few bucks.

Thanks for any help in advance,

Cheers'

Weird, you just described my exact current equipment to a tee. My room is a little different though.

To answer your questions, you need a HTIB/AVR that can handle multi-channel LPCM audio, that's all. The HTIB/AVR's capability to decode will not come into play with an original PS3. It decodes everything to multi-channel LPCM for output via HDMI. Thankfully, almost every currrent HTIB/AVR handles this format, so your options are broad.

There is a minor difference in cost between HTIB/AVR that can handle HDMI audio and video, but it shouldn't be enough to break the deal. The difference in, for example, the Sony DH500 that does not handle HDMI audio and video and the DH700 that does is about $50. Most HTIB, if they handle HDMI switching at all, handle audio and video because they don't have the supplemental inputs to support secondary connections for audio for each HDMI input.

Thanks for the prompt response, EXACT same set up, thats hilarious. I'm looking between a bunch of HTIB setups, of the following systems which do you think are best of the bunch. I know they are not ideal, but any constructive information is helpful.

Samsung 5.1 Channel Home Theatre In A Box (HT-TZ322T)
Samsung Home Theatre Audio System (HT-AS730ST)
Sony 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System (DAVHDZ485)
Sony 5.1 HDMI Bravia Home Theatre System (DAVHDZ284)
Sony 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System (HTSS360)
Pioneer 5.1 Home Theatre System (HTP-59HD)
Sony 5.1 Channel Home Theatre In A Box (HTSF360)
Yamaha 5.1 Channel Home Theatre System (YHT6328)

Thanks;

Ted
