Really wierd! Anyone else experienced this?

Yeah, it says PLAYBACK on the info pop-up screen for the first 10 or 20 minutes before it reverts to an in-program timer. They need to fix that. FYI, this refers to TWC San Diego, using ODN 4.0.2_4.

No conflicts and recording log has no entry in it for record failure and stopped showing up in the list of scheduled recordings for the next week or so.

(I wonder of Billo the Putz or Glenn Beckerhead or Rush Limburgercheese got into my box.)

Yeah, now they must have gotten Olbermann taken off the air too...

Not a peep in this thread now for over two weeks. Anything new that needs to be mentioned?

Not really because the box is quite fine. All the talk is over in the Navigator thread because that is what kills this unit.

Mine is actually working quite well right now.

Lucky you, it really depends on your division. Our division was fine up to 3.2. Once the rolled out 4.0 Navigator went to crap. Slow, buggy and glitch laden.

No complaints about the 8640HDC, I like the extra disk space. My only issues are with Navigator, sure would like to have 4x fast forward and skip to end.

I imagine it will come. I have 4x FFW on my MDN box.

The tech that came out and confirmed all my Navigator issues said his 8640 has the 4th speed on it already. So, he likely has some pre-release version. I can only hope that it fixes the massive issues my boxes are having and that they deploy it soon.

Navigator has been a disaster since the 4.0 update in our division.

My box did it again - failed to record Wednesday 11:00 PM PST edition of "Inside The NFL" on Showtime HD. Nothing in the recording log to indicate why it failed to do so. Definitely no conflicts for recording. Did record it at the aforementioned time every week prior.

FYI, TWC, San Diego. Showtime channel is 702 (mirror of 640, which is actual channel).

Does a reboot solve such problems?

I would like to say thank you to BenJF3 for the info on putting the 1TB WD FAEX drive into the 8640HDC, could not have been easier and all i did was partition the drive (not format). a couple of rebootsa later and it was up and running, it's been two weeks and it works great!.
Thanks BenJF3 for the info.

Your welcome - enjoy your increased storage space!

I just got a Cisco 8640hdc. While watching a program the I have recorded, if I pause the recording, the information displayed on screen is for some other cable channel. I would like to be able to see where I am in the recording. How much time is left, etc. Does anybody know how to change this.

What you want IS the normal situation and I know of no way to intentionally alter it via settings. Something is not right with your box... I would start with a reboot and see if that corrects things.

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth. Reboot fixed my problem. Feel a little silly that I didn't try that before posting.

You're fixed now, so it wasn't a waste at all.

I was just about to suggest a reboot! Glad that took care of it for you... I wish I could fix my problems that easy ... LOL

jcalabria knows what I'm talking about.

When I connect the TV to other components there is no flicker, so it's not the TV. I have also tested using different HDMI cables and the problem does not go away. Anyone out there experiencing picture flickering with the 8640 HDC?
I'm also getting the same flickering now that I have the 8640. I found that if I turn off the 8640 and turn it back on, it temporarily goes away. Hopefully they are working on a patch. Assuming people have been reporting it anyway.

I've been getting this flickering but maybe it's my old SDTV. It only happens on 16:9 content. I have a 4640HDC hooked up to a 13" CRT TV/VCR set.

My 4640HDC is occasionally locking up when changing channels.

Of course, try rebooting. Also, if you're using HDMI, try using component (or vice versa) to see if the problem is reproducible.

Looking back over this year-long thread. I seem to have a similar issue to some. his started about 2 months ago.

Problem with 8640HDC in Greensboro, NC on TWC. Running HDMI directly to Vizio E47OVL. Anytime the 8640 is turned off, it loses the ability to handshake with the TV. What happens is it shows the startup HD channel just fine. In this case, one of the cable news shows, CNN HD or FNHD. But if the channel is changed via remote or guide, I get a blank screen. I still get the channel ID info at the bottom, but no picture. Sometimes I get the blue screen with the "XXX is not available, try again" message, but usually ablack screen.

Only solution is to reboot. I can leave the 8640 on and turn the TV on and off and all is fine. But, turn the box off and a reboot is always needed. Does not seem to matter the startup sequence. TW CS is terrible, the last rep advised me to bring the box in and trade it, no offer to trouble shoot or anything.

I have a PS3 connected to the TV by HDMI also and no such issues with the Vizio.

Does this sound similar to the other problems others have been having?

Thanks BenJF3 for the info.

I was looking for this information and I can't find it anywhere in the thread. Can either you or BenJF3 re-post this information here? Thanks in advance.

Does anybody have a problem with stopping a recorded program and the box not remembering where you left off. I go back to a program the next day or what ever and the box starts the program from the start. Anybody have this problem or have any solutions. Maybe it's a firmware problem. I was told charter is going to install a new guide later on this month, maybe that will help.
THanks.

Definitely firmware (IPG) dependent.

For those of you that replaced the drive in the unit, how did you partition it?

What exactly happens once you plug it in? Do you have to be connected to Ethernet?

I tried it with a 1.5TB drive and it's just scrolling on the front display as follows:

r7xx where the xx are cyclical letters and numbers.
Ok, I got it booted up. For others wanting to try:

You must use an unallocated and unpartitioned drive.
I was connected to Ethernet (though it may work without)
The scrolling things are normal. It takes FOREVER (30min). Just let it run.

The problem now is that I can't record anything. IT just says "Video Recorder Not Available."

Sigh....

I had TW total home dvr installed yesterday. Switched from Dish because of trees. Got 2 Cisco 8642HDC and 2 4642HDC boxes. Before I set it up I was told that the boxes can be RF or IR so I thought it was going to be like my dish 722 boxes. I have a dvr and playback box sitting in the same cabinet in the lr. The dvr is hooked to the AVR with component and the hdmi to the kitchen. The playback is hooked up to sunroom tv on the wall with hdmi. The problem is that you can't use the remotes for the sunroom or kitchen like I could with Dish. I don't care if I have the same thing showing on all 3 tvs but just want HD DVR on all 3 tvs and don't have anywhere to put boxes with the tv in the sr or kitchen. Is there anyway to make this work with the remotes? Thanks for your help.
