Using DVDFab to rip my DVD collection and trying to settle on a format.
Any reason to not rip to WMV? Using the WMP 10 setting it will encode 5.1 and a couple that I've tried look just as good as when I did a straight up copy of the VIDEO_TS folder. And WMV is about a quarter of the size.
Just talking old DVDs here, not BluRay. Not sure if you can rip BluRay to WMV or not, I'd guess I'd need to go to MVK. But for now I want to stay away from MVK on old DVDs. I just don't want to deal with the codecs and stuff on various PCs/laptops that I may want to play the movies on. Although Win 7 Media Center will be the main viewing software with Media Browser.
Another option is AVI but from what I can tell it won't do 5.1 while WMV 10 will.
Thanks for any insight.
