Is there a Media Player that plays 1080p/60fps files?

I see that there are some new media players launching soon...does anyone know if any are capable of 1080p/60fps playback? I am asking because we own a Sanyo FH1 HD camcorder and it can record in 1080p/60fps and I really just want to play the files as they are recorded and not have to render out at 30fps . Thoughts?

I'm using a WDTV Live and it does 1080p@60fps just fine. I think that just about every media player made in the last year or so should do this without issue.

Can you post a short clip somwhere on the net (RapidShare)? I will try it with a Western Digital TV Live.

I also have the Sanyo VPC-FH1. The WD Live player sort of plays 1080P 60FPS, some artifacting, but plays it the best out of the media players I've tried. (Also tried ASUS and original WD player). However it somehow does not play the next level down (Full HD: 1920 x 1080 (60fields/sec 16Mbps) mode very well, seems to downgrade to 30FPS. I also have an Aiptek GVS, doesn't play any of it's files well either. I eventually sold the WD Live to someone else. I now have the original WD player, which can't really handle the highest VPC-FH1 HD setting (artifacting, and downgrades frame rate) but plays Full HD: 1920 x 1080 (60fields/sec 16Mbps mode and every thing else perfectly. Also has no problems with video from my Aiptek GVS. The original WD player does what I need it to do including playing DVD rips, albeit without menus, but that's ok, I usually just watch the main movie anyways.

So WD Live looks to be able to handle this fairly well....is it watchable? 1080p/60fps that is..

Also..is it possible that a firmware upgrade could improve playback of 1080p/60fps material?

Where is your 1080p@60fps material coming from?

Bluray Rips.

Blu-ray does not support 1080p60, at least that's what Wikipedia says...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc

Anything that's at 60 fps is interlaced, not progressive. Most Blu-rays are mastered at 24 fps.

I think you may be confusing the fact that the player can output 1080p60. That is not the same as being compatible with content that was mastered at 1080p60.

I agree, however, if the WDTV Live can take a Blu-ray mastered at 1080p24fps and play it @ 1080p60fps I don't see why it shouldn't be able to play content that is native 1080p60fps. Most media players should be able to do this as long as the files are compatable with that player.

I'd say I wish it were better, it kind of chokes up (artifacting) every 10 seconds or so, but it definitely plays in 60 FPS when it does play the video. If it were able to play the rest of my files ok, I would have kept it. I never applied any firmware updates, none available at the time, didn't keep it long enough although there appears to be one available now. I informed their tech support about this and sent them samples, they said they'd get back but never did. The disappointing thing was, it could kind of play the VPC-FH1 highest setting videos, but all the other modes were all choppy. Also my Aiptek GVS has a 720P 60 FPS mode, video would slow down and seemed to cut the framerate somewhat. If the firmware update fixed these issues, then I'm back on board but for now I'm happy with the gen 1 player.

Big difference in video decode processing requirements between
- decoding 1080p24, doing 3:2 pulldown, output 1080p60
- decoding 1080p60, output 1080p60

Video decoder has to process much more video data to handle 1080p60 decoding, so more memory and memory bandwidth is needed.

That said, there are camcorders that record at 1080p60 now...

So if it can do #1 without issue, #2 should be easy?

I guess I should rephrase my question.....

Is there a media player that can play .MP4 files from my Sanyo FH1 HD camcorder that are recorded as 1080p/60fps ...and do it very well ? It's hard to believe that something isn't capable of this...even at a premium price to do so.

Dave,

There's a thread over on the NMT forum about video files from the Sanyo HD2000, which also records at 1080p60.

http://www.networkedmediatank.com/sh...403&pid=218231

Since it is beyond the Blu-ray specification for AVCHD, the Sigma 8635 chip inside of the lower-end NMT boxes (as well as the WDTV and some others) seems unable to play the files smoothly, at least with current firmware.

According to one post I've found the newer 864x Sigma chip in the C-200 works with these files:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...7#post17922307

Update: I've found another thread that shows some hiccups occur when using the C-200.

The WDTV has the 8635, just like the Popcorn Hour A-110. I own both.

The thread discussion seemed to be about the wdtv live, which has an 8655, not the wdtv mark 1, which has an 8635.

I believe the OP just wants to know what works and what doesn't, no matter what the player.

There's a post over in the FH1 thread of someone who claims that the XTreamer (RealTek chip) works with his 1080p60 files:

That would definitely be nice to know. I wish these media players companies could also specify what frame rates they can play as well, instead just saying they can play 1080P files, since it seems they all can. Too much trouble to have to buy each and every one only to return it because it can't do what you want it to do. Also I don't always trust other peoples observations. I sent a 1080P 60fps file to a guy who had an Asus Oplay, he said it played perfectly so I went out and got it. I guess he doesn't know how 60 fps is supposed to look like, the image was 1080P but not the frame rate. Hopefully for future players, they include the frame rate details as well.

I have tried those files and are playing ok, except at some point on the movie with the kid, where the second guy comes in the WDTV has a couple of seconds bad image.

On another hand, those videos are baad - really bad CMOS jelly, jerkiness caused by not so good stabilization, noise... I have better quality miniDV recordings. I don't even think the record it is native 1080p at 60Hz... or the compression is really bad.

I had just bought the wd live and on my 1080p tv it does NOT play at my 1080p60fps, it plays at 30fps for A FACT... Files are from my sanyo hd2000 camcorder at 60fps and 24mb/s mp4s which play at 30fps, and I also converted to wmv form with 10k bitrate/60fps so its not a bitrate issue either as these files did not play at 60fps either, both 100% converted to 30fps.

The wd live can play 720p60fps with no issues as i converted some of my original 60fps files to 720p60fps in vc-1 wmv format and they played @ 60fps 1000%. The quest is to find a media player capable of 1080p60fps!

There must be a media player capable of 1080p60fps out there, now it's just a matter of finding it! here is a battle royale at gizmondo

Hopefully soon and hopefully the specs explicitly mentions that. I'm curious, where did you get your 720 60 FPS files? My WD Live didn't play my Aiptek GVS 720 FPS files well at all, choppy and seemed to cut the framerate. Also it seemed to play my 1080P 60 FPS well in stretches, then would hiccup every 10 seconds or so but definitely was 60 FPS when it was not hiccuping.

^^ My files are 1080p60fps camcorder mp4s that I can convert to 720p60fps vc-1 @ 10k kbps which does work @ 60fps on the wdlive...

The 720p60fps were originally 1080p60fps24k kbps mp4s that i converted to vc-1 720p60fps 10k kbps files and works fine in wdlive

Not according to WD.

Specs: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=735
"- H.264 MP@L4.1 and HP@4.1 up to 1920x1080p24, 1920x1080i30, or 1280x720p60 resolution. "

I have a Noontec A6 that has no trouble playing 45Mbs 1080P H264 30fps files from the CANON 7D camera, and has no problem with Blu-ray.

The A6 can be had for less than $100 - why not give a try.

I have no idea if it can do 60P - might do 60i.

Can I send you two files one is 60fps and one in 30fps, the difference will be clear, it will be a pan where one is totally in focus, the other blurry, in focus will be 60fps and blurry will be 30fps. if they look the same, the noontec is NOT capable of 60fps, if there is a difference we have a winner in the media player 60fps!
