Official OPPO BDP-80 Owner's Thread - Page 132

Bill, you are a genius.

I've now started to convert to .avi with older Dixv codecs and it seems better.

The other issue I have is that it freezes/crashes with some files but that's probably related.

It's been a lovely machine so far and I recall you advising us when we purchased it.
The only other thing is the disc tray seems not to like to close sometimes, and seems to need a slight nudge down to re-insert itself. Anyone seen this before and can suggest a remedy?

People have reported their self-service efforts in the past but I don't recall the details. Are you comfortable opening the box and doing your own repair? Email OPPO support and describe the problem. They may have standard procedures for you to try.

Else, there is OPPO's reasonable fixed price out of warranty repair. It depends on whether you want to put money and effort into an old machine.

Cheers, Bill

Yeah if its not too delicate an operation I can do some repairs.

I'll get in touch with them. Or else perhaps wait for a more profound failure that makes fixed price repair more economic.

Thanks again!

Easily one of the best values in a BD player ever sold. FWIW, they are now selling used on eBay for more than they sold for new.

Same goes for my region/zone-free player.

When the time came to get a second BD player a few months back, there was still no better value multi-format region/zone-free player than the BDP-80 to use as a transport. I just finished playing my Wish You Were Here SACD.

Agreed.  And when the BDP-80 (in transport mode) is paired with an AVR having an Anchor Bay VP, well, it doesn't get much better ... except no 3D and limited streaming.
