::Good speaker wire 14 Gauge??::

Guys,

I get it! Good speaker wire consists of good oxygen free copper wire, 14 GAUGE under 50ft/ea, good external isolation... but with so many brands, and prices, can someone suggest a good wire? I have a 5.1 100watts/ea , less than 15ft of length per channel (8ohm). I could spend fortune for wire which in my opinion is waste of $$ I have banana plugs, ane each wire will be ran along the wall, Not behind it. I am looking for all around candidate..Any links would be appriciate it!!

Well, you almost got it...

You don't need OFC. Its only advantage over ETP copper is a miniscule reduction in resistance. You will never notice the difference.

Your local home improvement store has all you need, so does Radio Shack. If you want to order on-line, try someplace like Monoprice or Parts Express.

Hardware and electrical supply stores sell 14 AWG two-conductor stranded copper wire.

Agreed that "oxygen-free" is not necessary.

Guys, thank you!! Its funny how many people get fooled of buying super expensive wire. I also thought it makes a sonic difference, but the more research I do, the more I start laughing at poor souls that spend hundreds, or thousands of $$. I guess when you have tens of thousands of $$ invested in hardware, as might as well go for ridiculous priced cables. Thank you!!

Gentlemen,

One more thing... Are there any limitations when it comes to FLAT cables/wires? This would definetly help me out blending in the wires on the wall. I saw some 14 gauge wires that were pretty cool, and paintable (belkins)

Another vote for Monoprice. I got all of my in-wall and main speaker wire from them. Good quality wire at a really good price.

My last bunch of wire I got was from a big home improvement store. Bought it off the big spool and it was really stiff to bend. Could barely split the wires and strip the ends.

The Monoprice stuff is nice and flexible, easy to work with.

Axiom sells the best ofc 12+awg speaker wire i have found. Really nice wire drapes like hot taffy.. Bulk wire 99 cents a foot last i checked.

I will be setting up..
a Denon 1910 (should arrive in the mail tomorrow!!)
2 sets of Old Bose 301's (bought in 1997)
a Bose Center Channel (bought in 1998)
These speakers should perform fairly well right?

Anyway, can anyone make recommendations for a flat speaker wire that I could run under the carpet?
I am used to using stripped bare wire connections so can someone make a recommendation?

I have not had a stereo for the last 10 years and was a novice then.
If you can point me to where I could learn about other methods
(especially with the really thin & wide flat wire I would really appreciate it!)

I checked out Monoprice but I did not find anything.
I also found the Axiom wire that was being referred to but I did not really understand how I would connect it)
However, there is a reason that I wear glasses though and did not go to Yale....

Any direction and insight would be extremely helpful!

can't remember what i used, but i used some 16ga stuff from lowes, not even "speaker wire" it was just stranded copper wire, i twisted it together myself, and then covered it in techflex, it looks awesome and really expensive, but in reality, probably only cost me around 40.00 for 100ft.
