MacMini & onkyo tx-sr507 HDMI signal problem

i've searched all the forums and can't find an answer. Hopefully someone can help me.
I'm setting up my htpc (intel macmini osx, panasonic ax100 lcd projector, and onkyo tx-sr507).
connecting the mac via (dvi to) hdmi directly to the panasonic works fine but no audio.
if i connect the Mac to the Onkyo via dvi to hdmi cable and toslink from mac to onkyo i get nothing. Onkyo states in the manual that "reliable operation with such an adapter (DVI to HDMI) is not guaranteed. in addition, video signals from a PC are not supported"
What can i do? i tried one of those boxes that combine dvi signal and toslink audio into hdmi, then out to the onkyo. that did not work.
i could connect the Mac to the panasonic projector directly via a hdmi switch box but how to i get audio out of the mac to the receiver? The projector does not have an audio out to sent the audio signal back to the receiver, therefore it will have to come directly from the mac to the onkyo.
ideally there is a way for me to connect directly from the mac to the onkyo and then to the projector...

thanks for your help... i'm stuck...

Hey, I just went through the same thing with my 706. The DVI Detective from Monopice solved the problem for me. Read through my post and see what can be done. Lots of people have this issue with Onkyos and Macs.

so i installed the 1000klub.com script and now i get signal from the mini through the onkyo to the projector but the problem now is reestablishing the signal.
if i switch to another component or turn off the projector i must hard shut down the mac - (as i have no visual to do a normal shut down). when i restart the mac i get signal to the projector again. i can't leave the mac running and just turn the projector on when i need it.
will using one of those DVI doctor devices give me continuous signal so i can leave the mac running and shut off the projector?
i don't want to drop the $50 or so on that if it won't solve this issue.
thanks
