Argosy HV335T - Anyone know anything? - Page 14

My pc is about 4 years old, I use cat5 as well and it has been pretty flawless. I don't see a need for raid because I break up video by tv and movies with network shares anyways. The scrolling on the device is a little slow even if they sped it up with the firmware updates so you might want to break up your library anyways by placing A-I, J-Q, R-Z shared folders for your movies.
I wish they would have added a page up and page down function for scrolling. A volume setting would have also been nice. Kudos to Argosy for adding the progress bar, it saves so much time to skip through a movie rather than FF/RW.

BTW: fatchuck you can use upnp on the Argosy for Tversity, it is kind of clunky but it works. Don't forget to update the firmware when you get it, you can now watch YouTube and mediafly videos on the Argosy.

Pardon me for being such a media player newbie.

The Argosy 335T not only allows a 2TB HDD to be installed within it, but also has front and back USB2 ports. Could 2TB drives also be installed on each of those as long as they were powered from their own plug instead of pulling power from the 335T?

Please correct me if I'm mistaken about this potential 6TB setup.

According to a reviewer on Amazon with the name "avguy" you can.

The HV335 does have 2 USB connections (1 front-1 back) and although the manual says not to hook to external devices up at the same time, I was informed by Argosy's tech support that you can as long as the USB drives have there own DC power supply and aren't pulling USB power from the unit. I've tried it and it works well. In fact unlike the old MediaPlay which would only recognize the primary partition on an external drive, the HV335 recognizes multiple partitions and displays them as separate USB drives. (USB1, USB2 etc.) I also installed a 1TB WD Caviar green internal hard drive in one of my units (it will support up to a 2TB SATA drive)

I have never tried this myself but it seems like this would be a hassle turning on both powered hard drives before using the unit each time but to each their own I guess.

My sister currently has a 3TB setup. I had her buy a unit from newegg preinstalled with a 2TB drive, and then she has her 1TB Fantom Drive (DC powered) hooked up to it.

I was also successful in plugging in an 8GB flash drive at the same time, as well.

Does anyone else have problems using the fast-forward (or fast-rewind) on these boxes? I have a HV335 and a HV359 and I can't get video files to get beyond a 2x FF. On screen it says 2X, 4X, 8X, etc. but it doesn't really advance to the faster speeds. There is a GO TO button on the HV359 which works on most (but not all) video files that allows me to jump farther into the movie.
I had problems with faster speeds on the early firmware, newer versions seem OK most of the time. What version are you using?
The only time I see that happening is on the FBI type warnings that I couldn't skip on the DVD player either.
I'm using the current firmware. Some hi-def files (like .mkv) seem to give me the most trouble.

Subtitles look ridiculous on this machine!
Too fat!
I have a Medion 1080p player from Aldi...(£40) & it has loads of different settings for subtitles so you can change size/font/positioning....
If only Argosy had thought of this!

I have the HV355T and like it.
Anyone have input on the HV359V ?
I was thinking of upgrading, but is it worth it (looks like the HV359V will be back in stock in a few days)?
Has anyone fixed Youtube yet? I don't know when it broke, but now, if I search for a video, after the search finishes, if I try to select one of the search results, the player just scrolls through all of them. I haven't found any way to make it stop and play any of them, let alone the one I want.

Hi Jim ... I'm not experiencing the fault you describe. I am using D2.36.

You?
I'm using a modified 2.35. I didn't know there was even a 2.36. Does 2.36 have any enhancements over 2.35 other than YouTube working?

Also, does anyone know how to contact the guy who modded 2.35 to add vTuner to it?
Can't bring anything else to mind by way of additionality. I may have invented a new word there.
Wasn't aware of the vTuner patch. That would likely as not increase my radio-use of this device. Currently I tend to just listen to the various BBC Radio livefeeds & a few specific BBC radio programme links. Real shame that support for the box has waned. Makes it hard to recommend anyone buy from the Argosy range.
Yuletide felicitations, btw.

Here's the link for D2.36 http://www.argosyusa.com/download/Fi...lash_D2.36.zip

Hi all, this is my D2.36 mod for HV335T with adding VTuner and Telnet enable.

att: use this firmware at your own risk

I'm not sure Argosy is making any media players these days. They stopped selling the HV335T, stopped work on the HV366, closed down their facebook page. Its a shame because the HV335t was a decent little media player at an affordable price.

Thanks nymsc, the firmware works great. It's good to have vTuner working with 2.36 firmware.

What does vtuner do?
vtuner...

Bascially internet radio. But its more than that too.

Yes its a very cool internet radio app. You can play internet only stations. You can play local radio stations that broadcast on the internet. It's a nice addition to the 2.36 firmware.

I use vTuner on my Denon receiver. I don't listen to FM any more in fact. I am quite familiar with vTuner.

It is nice to add it to the firmware. It has a long way to go to equal what its implementation is on sources like our receivers.

But it is a nice tweak.
Props to the guy who wrote the hack. I suspect the reason that Argosy support has dwindled is because so much is being built into recent model TV's and receivers.

Thanks for your version mate, Vtuner is working great!!

I'm having same problems with telnet though, it gives me connection refused when telnet to the HV335T IP. Is it possible that is not enabled?

Thanks in advance!
if you have HD installed Telnet can be use after enable samba and BT download.

Wow excellent nymsc! I didn't know that BT has to be enabled for telnet to work. Thanks!
Not sure what you guys are going on about with BT/Telnet..?? I'll have to go learn a little - unless you're referring to the "More IMS1", with its breathtaking amount of added content. I found English language movies a plenty, albeit with Chinese (I presume) hardcoded subtitles.
Oh .... and VTuner is a magnificent addition.
Big ups to nymsc..!!

Thanks again.

I take it this modified firmware will not work on the VR version?
Still am pleased with this simple little box. Have a router that has usb port which can take a hard drive and act as file server or media server. The 335T can "see" the drive on the network. Have put all sorts of types of video and audio files on that drive. The Argosy 335T has played them all. Not one complaint....

Tried playing some of the files through the other devices I have that can be media servers, bluray players, TV, etc., and they choke. They don't have all the codecs needed to do playback decoding.

While it isn't the latest and greatest, the 335T is quite satisfactory and an important part of my home theater setup.
Agreed. After several attempts at "HTPC" I've ended up with what are basically file servers, from which I can browse and access files with the Argosy. I was so fed up with downloading software updates to players that seemingly would lock up routinely on video files.
Today I ask Argosy for the source code of the last firmware to see if with the community could improve it. But the told me they couldn't cause a NDA they have
