That is interesting. The "real" IMAX, which is close to me will still be showing Wrath of the Titans. I'll have to travel about 35-40 minutes to a "fake" IMAX to see it there.

You live in MA too? I recall you (or someone else) talking about Jordan's IMAX theater as well.

In any event I will also have to make the trek to the Randolph IMAX theater, and I have no idea if it's a real or "faux" IMAX. If it's the later I might as well just see it at a local multiplex D-Cinema showing as there really is no big advantage to fake IMAX- at least not worth the drive IMO. Even better, just stick to a 2D showing (if I can find one).

Same here. I've grown tired of the whole 3D thing. Can't remember the last time I actually used the 3D feature on my Samsung D8000.

I have the same tv and tried the 3D for 10 minutes then never used the feature again.

I may take the hour drive and see it at Patriot Place since I wont be able to see it at the Jordan's in Reading. Never been to the theaters in Patriot Place, just CBS Scene and the stadium. Anyone know if it will be worth making the drive versus just going to a standard Showcase or National Amusement theater?

I have a brand new 60 inch plasma and no intention of ever using it's 3D capabilities.

Maybe, MAYBE, if HBO or Showtime starts to broadcast their boxing matches in 3D, I might buy a pair of glasses. Maybe.

I bought a Panasonic Plasma with 3D solely to get the other top of the line features. It came with Avatar 3D, which I promptly sold on Ebay (along with a pair of glasses) for a significant percentage of the price of the TV.

Not all, just the majority.

The next display I buy will be 3D capable, although I am ONLY interested in seeing Avatar 3D at home....

Besides the 3D copy of Tron Legacy that came with the two pack, Avatar 3D is the only other 3D Blu-ray I own. Sad part is I hate that movie but the wife loves it. The 3D is impressive (and is a good way to wow visiting family and friends) but you couldn't pay me to sit through it again.

Is it just me, or is Capt America almost annoyingly "emo" in all of the trailer footage shown so far? For the record, this is the first time I've actually used that term, but from my understanding of it's meaning, it describes Chris Evans' take on Steve Rogers perfectly. I get that he's supposed to be a super earnest guy that's all heart, but couldn't they portray him with just an ounce of cockiness? Although I guess there's supposed to be some intentional contrast with Thor and Iron Man.

Exactly.

I forgot to mention I have Hugo and Cave of Forgotten Dreams in 3D.
Interested in those 2 as well.

I am not a huge fan of the current 3D tech, someday it could be more appealing.

I didn't notice.

I can say the Old School Cap was all business...not an ounce of mirth in him.
Much of Marvel's pantheon was that way.

Randolph is a digital IMAX. The auditorium was converted over to IMAX a few years ago. It was not originally built as an IMAX theater.

For what it is (a digital screen in the middle of a multiplex), it's a pretty good digital theater screen, a little larger than average. And if you order tickets online, you can reserve the seats you want, which is nice. But it's not a real IMAX.

No, I'm in MN. But it sounds like we have similar situations. Since my "real" IMAX won't be getting The Avengers, I will more than likely just see it at my local multiplex. Don't feel like driving 40 minutes to see it on a "fake" 'Max. Plus I can get my Regal points.

From what my "real" IMAX mgr has said, it sounds like no real IMAX theater will be showing The Avengers, just "faux" digital IMAX theaters. That being the case I might just stick with my local cineplex's D-Theater.

Same! I just want to watch it. Don't care for the IMAX.

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than willing to pay for IMAX, but only the genuine IMAX experience.

I'd rather pay to see IMAX 3D vs normal 3D simply because every normal 3D viewing I have experienced has been so dark, it's been a disaster for me. I will go to the first showing to pay the lower price and at least be able to see what is on screen.

In my experience, IMAX 3D is the way to go (for the reason you point out).
Unfortunately, some of us don't have easy access to an IMAX theater (you city folks have it all).

Low light projection isn't limited to 3D presentations either.
Trust me...it's common to 2D as well.

You must have missed me recent rants on how 3D is ruining 2D projection due to the theaters keeping the 3D setup in place, even for 2D, sapping the projection of 50%+ of its light output. I rarely go to the cinema now because every time I do, I have to watch a dark and muddy picture, even when it is supposed to be daylight on the big screen.
I use to experience the "too dark movie" thing but every since Michael Bay spoke up about theaters and light levels, the theaters that I frequent have not been dim(witted). A few years ago, I stopped going to movies. I refused to pay for a picture that I know darn well is much darker than it should be. Don't forget to make your displeasure know to theater managers and their corporate offices. Don't be left in the dark.

Local multiplex has prices up for May 4th showings and there's a $5 price difference between 2D and 3D showings. Daumn!!!! $8.75 is reasonable, but $13.75?!?!

2D Here I come.

I didn't miss your "rants" and I concur with your POV.
Poor projection is precisely why I too rarely buy a ticket.

Don't go to theaters that use Sony Projectors . . . problem solved

Problem NOT solved. Non Sony projectors suffer from this as well (there are the ways in which 3D setups can be kept in place for 2D), but most projectors in my area are Sony. They have a huge monopoly here.

Nightline just did a commercial for The Avengers. Hah. Looks cheezy. I expect it will get in the ~50% Rottentomato range.
