That's a crazy number! I'm banking on the opening weekend in North America to be about the same. Anyone here on HSX?

Off to write my spoiler-free review...

If I had to rank them by my favorite it would be:

Iron Man
Captain America
Thor
The Incredible Hulk
Iron Man 2

I approve of this list.

I might have thought overseas got this before the States to build momentum for the US release. Sometimes the States can be a little finicky with movies and a weak opening and it all goes to crap like the John Carter movie that bombed here but did decent abroad. But then again, this looks to be AWESOME so I doubt they were thinking that way.

Midnight showing here in Joisey . Having to choose between IMAX 3D and D-BOX means no 3D glasses to bring home . Seriously wish that someone would combine the two somewhere in the tri-state area .

Seriously, every single review says this movie is through the roof or the best superhero movie of all time. That is a lot to live up to...I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

In this week's EW cover story/interview w/ Whedon & cast, Sam Jackson mentions the Hoff's turn as Fury. The rest of the group was apparently in the dark regarding that movie. Jackson stated something to the effect: "I watched David Hasselhoff's Nick Fury performance...and utilized nothing from it".

"What I decided to do instead was just play the character exactly like every other character I've ever played... except with an eye patch!"

Here are some quotes from my Uncle after seeing it:

"****ing wow, he pulled off the impossible! It's an amazing accomplishment."

"I should have figured it would take someone like him to do it justice, he way exceeded my expectations, and I knew he would deliver, but man unbelievable. Thanks Joss for giving all of us this comic book masterpiece."

So much for the post as to why he wouldn't pull it off. You never know about stuff like that until it's on record. You could have had any of the top directors out today on this and they could have flopped. I'm very glad that this worked out for Joss. I grew up with Marvel when it was happening and I'm glad that Stan Lee is still around to see this. Has anyone mentioned him doing his usual cameo?

I know plenty had their doubts. Honestly, I had none. I knew it'd end up great. He's Joss Whedon. I've felt he's one of the greatest writers around since the early 2000s. I seen lots of his work many times and thought it was simply amazing. He's been blowing people away on the small screen for some time.

Was this filmed in 3D? I'm going to see it Friday but don't want pay 3D prices for a converted film.

No - it's a conversion

lame. they have it showing in 3 auditoriums: Real3D, XD 3D, and Digital. Guess they are banking on people expecting a title like this to be a 3D experience worth the extra ticket cost.

Great news! Disney is going to use my quotes for the ad campaign and they're letting me publish my review before the other critics in Toronto.

The 3D isn't bad. It's only useless moments are in the night scenes (of which there are quite a few in the beginning). The darkened 3D image makes it harder to see what's going on.

+1. There's no way I'm paying the extra cost for a conversion. I'm already having a hard time dealing with real 3D, but a conversion nope, not a chance.

That's great news David. Who knows it could be used on the back of a blu ray release also.

Yeah, this movie is looking to be more than awesome after watching the trailers, and I see that it's doing quite well at the box office in those countries where it's already been released.

Can't wait to see this one!

Greetings! In the states here, midwest and will be taking my kids along for this ride on Saturday. As big a movie enthusiast as I am, I've been pretty conservative with respect to the "new movie-going experiences" like 3D and IMAX. Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of 3D, probably because my experiences just haven't offered enough extra (whether you're talking depth or pop) to justify extra cost. And I've never seen an IMAX presentation; however, we do have a screen 3x normal size here that I saw Ghost Protocol on and it was very impressive.

For whatever reason, I think I want to give my kids something a little different with this particular movie so I'm considering going to the IMAX 3D showing. Conversion versus actually filmed 3D aside, can anyone tell me what I might expect? I guess what I'm asking is what's the "wow" factor compared to a regular screen? And is IMAX 3D typically better than Real 3D?
