Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to take my girlfriend to see it probably next week or the week after. I'm really looking forward to AVS member impressions, positive or otherwise.

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of 3D, probably because my experiences just haven't offered enough extra (whether you're talking depth or pop) to justify extra cost. And I've never seen an IMAX presentation; however, we do have a screen 3x normal size here that I saw Ghost Protocol on and it was very impressive.

For whatever reason, I think I want to give my kids something a little different with this particular movie so I'm considering going to the IMAX 3D showing. Conversion versus actually filmed 3D aside, can anyone tell me what I might expect? I guess what I'm asking is what's the "wow" factor compared to a regular screen? And is IMAX 3D typically better than Real 3D?

IMAX 3D is usually pretty solid. The image is brighter than most every RealD experience I've had, which will be very important with this movie. IMAX can suffer from image separation on occasion, but the image is usually pretty tight. The larger screens of a 15/70mm IMAX can really up the immersion factor of 3D as well. Hope that helps.

That is helpful, thank you. I'll be sure to report my experience over the weekend.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

My wife and I saw The Avengers this past Monday night at a free screening that I won in NYC at the Lowes 34th St.

I went in with high expectations based on everything that has been written about it and all the trailers that I saw. That morning, the NY Daily News even reviewed it and gave it 5 stars (there are a couple of minor spoilers in the review).

All that being said, The Avengers lived up to the hype and even surpassed it. It is without question the best comic book movie ever created, I have seen most of them) and is now on my all time list of favorite movies. Believe everything that has been written about this movie and trust me you won't be disappointed. My wife even mentioned that she wants to see it again before it comes out on Blu-ray, who am I to argue.

As I texted my brother when it was done......Wow, wow, wow, wow!!!!!

In conclusion, Hulk Smash!!!

Movies of this genre typically get some level of canned mediocre level review with a nod to state of the art special effects (at least until Dark Knight). It's intriguing to me that this movie hasn't gotten any of that and your review greatly enhances the curiosity given the quality of comic/superhero movies that have come out. Is there a pre-order up on Amazon yet? Might as well get it over with it sounds like!

If you had asked me early in the year, I would have said The Avengers was just going to be fun to see in a "mediocre" level concept but the real tease is Dark Knight Rises. Yeah.....not so sure now.

I've been trying to avoid any new trailers for this, but had a moment of weakness last night when Ruffalo was on Fallon. I watched the clip. Stark is hilarious.

Yep, I ain't watching no more trailers, I'm seeing this Saturday afternoon.

It's always fun. The heated debates are some of the best reading material when you're looking to pass some time.

Personally, the only thing I don't like is people calling others stupid, or insulting others for their taste in movies or anything. That bothers me.

We have similar taste. I'm very happy you enjoyed it.

To anyone who saw it (IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT, DO NOT READ THE SPOILER)
Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

How funny and awesome was it when Loki yelled, "STOP!" at The Hulk, and then went into his monologue only to have The Hulk whip him around like a rag doll? That had me in stitches and I thought, "That's brilliant!" I actually thought, like in most movies, he would succeed in talking the big green impediment down. Just fantastic!

Yes that made me laugh and so did everyone in the cinema.

I agree.

There's also a tendency to be negative I've noticed, esp. with films that are highly popular. As if finding fault with what most like somehow makes you smarter than them. Its a natural tendency and I can live with it except when its done over and over...and over.

I have a cousin like that if everyone likes some team or some movie etc he has to be the opposite. He's miserable.

You are dead on. Everyone wants to be relavant. What better way than I'm smarter than you on a highly popular film with the masses.

...And after a while it sort of fades and everyone calls it a classic. I remember when Titanic came out, I loved it from day one, for the same reasons that I still love it now. But it was "in" to diss the film and how many times have we heard that it sucked... People are afraid of their own taste simply because they think it makes them look 'different' and smarter. That's just sad.

Yeah, I saw that. I thought her interview was crappy but the clip was KICK ASS....literally and figuratively! Not bad on the eyes either if you're into that kind of thing

There are probably several different reasons for that: the need for attention, the need to feel "superior," the need to be argumentative....

Blockbusters almost always get slammed to some degree.
With Titanic, Avatar, SW, etc., there is also some resentment, jealousy, envy for the amount of $$$ being made by someone else.

And the countdown begins! Got my tickets for the 12:20 showing tomorrow, taking a half day from work. Hot dog, butter popcorn and cherry coke will be my very enjoyable and unhealthy Avengers lunch I'll be sure to add to the comments here after I exit

Ebert likes it.

"Comic-Con nerds will have multiple orgasms," predicts critic David Edelstein in New York magazine, confirming something I had vaguely suspected about them. If he is correct, it's time for desperately needed movies to re-educate nerds in the joys of sex.

If this were happening in Toronto and it was at any theatre other than an AMC, I would have attended. I can't stand AMC cinemas. Worst designed rooms I've ever been in. Even the studios are slowly realizing it. Almost every studio who used to use AMC exclusively for screenings has now switched to different theatres (Cinemplex and Empire). Makes me happy.

The AMC I'm at is decent nut the rest I have been to suck. I think I.am at the largest theater in the state. So far so good, contests and breaks between movies with prizes. All age groups, lots of women too no less. Next up I'M2. Cheerio .
