I have the above BDP, and a Samsung 58" Plasma (3d capable), both new in Jan 2011. Marantz NR1402 AVR routes the signals and drives speakers.
I am streaming Netflix etc via wifi (very fast cable modem), and everything was working honky dory until about late March of this year.
Then, we began to notice occasional video "drop out" when playing BD, DVD, or streaming from Netflix. FIrst it occurred ocassionally, was annoying, but I didn't have time to F-around with it as we all know how these things go! Well, the symptoms have gotten much worse, such that any disc, or streaming content, is unwatchable.
The firmware was auto-updated to v:1024.1 (the most recent release) in late March. Maybe the cause? I don't have any way to roll back.
I reset the player (unplugged for >10s, plugged back in, touched the "stop" icon on the top of the player for 5+ seconds until the system went into restart mode), and did NOT re-establish wifi communication yet. I then tested BD and DVDs and both seemed to work OK (no drop outs observed for about 30-40 min of running).
Then re-established wifi connection to my router, and then to Netflix, and streamed the same movie we had attempted to watch the previous evening. Began to experience the drop out (although not yet as bad as last night).
Further, I then switched back to test the BDs and DVDs and they now exhibit the drop out behavior upon playback.
OK, to rule out that there might be some HDMI signal issue, I disconnected my brand new Marantz NR1402 AV receiver and plugged the BD-C6900 directly into the TV to eliminate any question of signal pass thru the AV unit. Also, I am using high quality HDMI cables, and remember everything worked just fine for > 9 months, initially. So I don't (yet) think the cables or the ports are implicated.
I did not reset the BD player again, so fired it back up, and BD and DVD seem to play OK, but the problems with streamed content persist. In fact worse! I resumed playing the movie I was testing with earlier, and the player began to ignore the remote control AND the top panel control touch- icons! I had to shut off the player, and restart it to regain "control". Playback is no really awful, with continual intermittent (there's an oxymoron for you!) play-stop-play behavior.
The "escalation" process thru Samsung (Phillipines center) was followed, and tomorrow I am to speak with "executive level service". Can't hardly wait. Oh, the last person I spoke to today said I'd have to pay $110 or something to have the service dept look at the BDP, since the 12 month warranty expired 5 months ago, so I guess I'm wasting my time with them--but had hoped there was a "simple" ie firmware fix to what was initially a perfectly fine working system.
Any one have a clever suggestion??? Source for prior rev of Firmware, maybe?
I suppose I could make my Samsung TV the streaming device, and just use the BDP for disc-based content...
Thanks in advance!

Raddish,

I had the same issue with Marantz 1402 and bd c6900. If it is the same thing with my case you would be surprised how easily it can be fixed smile.gif. As i can see nobody mentioned this solution so you should try it:

In samsung BD settings turn off HDMI DEEP COLOR (not auto, turn off).

I hope this would help you.

Good Luck!

Hi.

I collect a refurb'd 6900 tomorrow.

One of the reasons I got this model (instead of a newer one), is the HD over component feature (so long as the HDMI port isn't hooked up at the same time)

Question: will the HD over component be turned off if I do the latest firmware (v1024.1) update?!!

Of course, I have no idea what version of f/w will bo on it when I collect it -- it could well indeed have a late version on there and I'll run the above potential risk, anyway!

To that end, I don't suppose anyone has the original (v1004 ?) version that they could forward me? Say, via Sendspace? If so, I'd be extremely grateful...

So collected it today - piss easy to configure, etc. wink.gif

It did indeed come with a late s/w version already on it: v1021.2 - and HD over component was working. smile.gif

Took the plunge and updated to the latest v1024.1......... And all is good! HD over component STILL works. biggrin.gif

127 Hours Blu-ray is cracking at 720p (my pj's native res).

And upscaled DVDs - Quantum of Solace in this case - looks great too! I'm into it. cool.gif

I will hook-up via HDMI asap... I either need a cheap 2/3/4/5-into-1 adaptor or replace my iScan HD+ scaler/deinterlacer with a VP20/30/50 or Duo or Edge, for more HDMI ports (and even better processing).

Decisions.............. rolleyes.gif

Anyone have trouble with the BD-C6900 and "The Lorax" on Blu-Ray? At random time during the movie, the audio stops and the picture becomes choppy (as if we're seeing every 10th frame or so). We watched the 3D version without issues, then had these problems with the regular Blu-Ray version. I tried disabling BD-Live and all optional features but that didn't help. I checked to make sure that I have the latest firmware. In case it helps, the player is connected to a Samsung UN55C7000 HDTV.

TIA,
cgreco

I had a similar issue with 127 Hours. Picture and sound would break up just after the bit where he get's his arm trapped -- for the remainder of that chapter.

I thought it was the BD-C6900 at fault but can confirm it must be the disc - as it still does it, in the same place, on my newly acquired Panny DMP-BDT220. frown.gif

Are these generation of 3D Blu-ray players really sensitive to anything other than a pristine BD transfer, then? frown.gif

Have you found out if the latest update ver.1024.1 for Samsung contains Cinavia or not? I know that you have had enough time to use it, and noticed that no one answered you. I'm thinking of updating and don't want Cinavia either, please respond, thanks.
No Cinavia.

Can anyone give a link to BD-C6900 IC Board Serial Port Pinout?
There is a new firmware update to BD-C6900 (1025.0).

Yep, I just upgraded my player to 1025.0. Anyone know what issues (if any) this update is supposed to resolve?
I haven't noticed any bug fixes or new features or old features broken in any of the firmware releases after the initial product introduction year.

The skimpy release notes always mention compatibility updates for certain (unnamed) Blu-Ray discs. Apparently the disc producers keep coming up with creative new ways to break existing players.

Often there is a new firmware release around the time that new apps are released in the app store, and in some cases the update appears to be necessary to support the new apps (e.g., the BBC News app when it was first released). 1025 was released around the time that the Crackle and Viewster apps were added. But I've never seen any reference to this in the release notes.

Everyone always asks if they sneaked Cinavia into the latest firmware release. Not so far, and it's very unlikely - it's not required for older models, so why would a manufacturer waste money and support effort on it?

So I lost power during my player updating it's firmware (freaking long process) anyway, when I got power back the player will power up and read "no disc" and do NOTHING else but power on and off. No response from the remote, buttons on player, power cycling..nothing. It appears to be bricked. Any ideas how I might be able to bring it back to life? The reset by pressing the stop button for 8 seconds or so doesn't work either.
I just saw the 1025 update. Has anyone had issues with this? I find it strange that this is the first Samsung update in several months.

Have you tried firmware update from USB? (internet search for instructions)

Other than that, I think all you could try is to unplug it for a while and then try the power-button reset again.
^^^ I notice that the wifi connection is not as stable as when I run an ethernet cable to the unit. This was also observed when watching Hulu. Since the updates do take a while, I would also recommend upgrading with USB if you can, or just use ethernet. If the update fails it might brick your unit.
Powering it down and letting it sit overnight seemed to do the trick. I plugged it back in and it started up normally.

Has anyone else experienced playback issues with the disc drive? Some of my BDs, like Avatar 3D, will not even load anymore. DVD/CDs play fine, but I do notice BD playback issues. I have also performed a reset on the unit as well as clearing the BD memory. No luck so far. Luckily this unit is only used in a bedroom, but it would still be nice to have a functioning unit.
Mine eventually stopped playing BDs and only would play DVD/CDs. I had to send in for repair and it did have a board that went bad.
^^ Geez, did it have a really long loading screen, and then have an "disc unreadable" error?
There are 3 different lasers for reading BD/DVD/CD (blue/red/infrared). Aside from that, they all use the same tracking mechanism and data processing circuits. So if your player suddenly fails to read one type of disc, you probably have a laser failure.
My friend has a Samsung 6500, and an old UP5000. The 6500 doesn't get much playback, but the UP5000 was his main player until there was playback issues. Now that I am reading about all these laser issues, I am leery to ever purchase one again. Luckily this player is used for streaming playback in a bedroom.
Yes - sometimes it looked like it was going to work. Then the loading error, only with the BDs though.

Definitely. I have had the player since 2010 when it came with my TV, but have rarely used it since it was easier to use my PS3. I have used it mainly on 3D movies to get the HD audio, and a few other occasions because of Cinnavia. I always noticed it struggled with burned media, but lately I have been wanting to use it more, since my PS3 is sometimes connected to another TV now, and every single BD has skipping problems. I have watched only between 20-30 titles on this player since I got it. Pretty sad for it to have issues like this. I may have to write a strongly worded letter to Samsung. Those work...sometimes.

I ham having problems playing back Disney's WOW calibration disc. It loads sporadically and never plays back like its supposed to. I have tested the disc on other players and it plays just fine.
I have not reset the player as of yet but have the latest firmware. I posted on another thread (probably the wrong one) and have yet to hear any definitive answers back.
I will update if I find a solution or get an answer to the other post.

My BD-6900 won't play certain Blu-Rays. I just used it the other day in the bedroom and I put in "Mankind The Story of All of Us" and it would not play the first disk, and then when I put the second disk in from the series, it said that the disk did not meet specifications. So I took it down to my Sony BDP-S790 and it worked just fine. Looks like this play is going in the storage bin and getting a Sony BDP-590 for the bedroom

Thanks, MROBVIOUS!

That seemed to help,some.

Everyone--do as OBVIOUS suggests, it cant hurt...
Also, try uninstalling Netflix and reinstalling it on the player. See details for this suggestion below.

A bit more of my story, if will help others...

After a lot of time on the phone w/ Samsung--the gal there was trying to help (after I was escalated to a north american center), I sent the unit to the Samsung service center in LA. Samsung, to their credit waived the $110 service fee (lessee, 12 hours of my time screwing with it, that's...$9/hr for my time) I paid shipping. I spoke to the guy at the service center and he said all they could do was replace the main circuit board, no other trouble found.

Of course not, because this is a SW/Firmware compatibility issue. I got the unit back and the problem was the same. NO Change.
The unit auto updated to the most recent firmware rev (1025 I think), video was still stopping, screen blacking out, while audio still going, then picture comes back. This happens every 1-3 minutes, apparently randomly.

Just in case it was somehow a streaming bandwidth issue, I bought a Hawking wifi extender and set it up. Now my wifi signal is 100% in the living room and it screams (12-15Mb/s), tested with my laptop, my phone, my kids two IPADS, etc. There is NO ISSUE with my wifi network as a streaming SOURCE, the issues are SAMSUNG's and possibly compatibility with various video data sources.

KEY POINT, the problem also occurs when playing DVDs and BR-Discs, and the unit was fine for the first 8 months after I bought it. These issues started after the 1024 firmware "upgrade".

[This if from the CNET Blog for Samsung BluRay Players--different model but nor surprising if they all share the same crap firmware, subjected to teh same high standards of testing before release to the unsuspecting public.

Samsung HT e5500 and netflix connection problem

by opelnyc - 9/6/12 5:12 PM

In Reply to: Same issue on my BD-D5700 by WiseguyzzInc

This has been really frustrating, because I was really liking my Samsung home theater system until a few weeks ago. Suddenly, Netflix would not stream video. I could open the app, click on a movie, the movie would open, I'd click "play" and then the message "we cannot play this title right now, please choose another or try again later". Unfortunately, I tried a ton of different titles and I always got the same message.
Now the crazy part was, it was playing without a hitch for a month and a half or so and I had done NOTHING to the set up to make it suddenly stop working. So, I jumped on the forums and started reading page after page of trouble with all different models of Samsung players, and the frustrations that people experienced with customer service.
I decided to just try a few of the things other consumers suggested- first of all, I went into SETTINGS and changed the time zone to the appropriate one. For some people, this was all they needed to do to fix the problem. Not me. Next, I tried plugging and unplugging the BD player and the router, the longest I left if off was around 2 hours (as suggested in one of the forums). No go. I did this a bunch of times, and always went back to check that my time zone setting hadn't changed. I was fairly ready to give up- but I saw a suggestion to deactivate and reactivate the netflix app. The way to do this on the remote in the netflix app is press up up down down left right left right up up up up. Bingo, the window opens and you have the option to deactivate, which I did. Then I shut down the BD player and unplugged it, and unplugged the router for about 10 minutes. After that, I plugged everything in, logged into netflix, and pressed a title. I have NO IDEA WHY, but netflix seems to be in working order once again.
