Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City Coming to PlayStation 3 and PC

We are happy to announce the much anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Games for Windows® - LIVE on March 30, 2010. For the first time, PlayStation 3 and Games for Windows - LIVE players will have the opportunity to experience the last two thrilling chapters of the Grand Theft Auto IV saga.

The two action packed episodes will also be available for download on the PlayStation Network and Games for Windows® LIVE on March 30, 2010. Each episode boasts the same detailed and immersive Liberty City we all know and love. Games for Windows - LIVE players can enjoy 32-player multiplayer matches and an advanced video editor, and all fans will have the chance to once again listen to the dulcet tones of Liberty City Radio.

The Lost and Damned is a dark trip through Liberty City's seedy underbelly as outlaw biker, Johnny Klebitz, fights to keep his gang together as a rift in the gang's leadership threatens to tear the brotherhood apart. In The Ballad of Gay Tony, players explore Liberty City's high-end nightlife as Luis Lopez, struggling to balance the temptations of money and vice against loyalties to family and friends. Both episodes feature a slew of new vehicles and weapons, and each episode adds new activities including cage fighting, gang wars and BASE jumping.

This news is going to make a lot of people happy. Although I'm pretty sure that the people who bought a 360 to play the exclusives for this game are going to be hella upset.

Do people still care about GTA?

lol

Anyways, anyone think these packs will acctually fix the piss poor MP that rockstar has never bothered to patch? No? yeah, me either.

That was 50 million well spent MS.

It was. I know a few people who bought a 360 because they wanted the full GTA expereince. Of after what they got wasn't as great as the hype they felt a little letdown, but MS still was able to hook them with that.

The real winner is Rockstar. There's no way they would have made $50 mill on this DLC on the PSN back then, or now.

Why would they be upset? Like me, they probably finished the game months ago and don't care at all. I have the PS3 too, but it's nice to play all the exclusives no matter what console they're on!

Why would they be upset? If they cared enough about GTA to buy a game system to play the add-ons, they wouldn't have wanted to wait a year to play them. It was never a big secret that they were coming to the PS3 eventually.

Them getting mad about this would be akin to someone who bought a launch PS3 complaining about the price drops 3 years later. In other words, they might complain, but they'll look like morons when they do.

This was my thought. Unless you're a hardcore fan of GTA IV you've probably sold your copy off already as evidenced by the 100 copies at any given Gamestop and its $6.25 trade in value at Amazon.

GTA4 kind of sucked, but I have heard really good things about Gay Tony. I am still planning to rebuy the game (not at $30 though) and check out the DLC episodes. If Gay Tony is as good as advertised, it gives hope for GTA5.

Some fans still playing the game..

A 30-year-old man suspected of jacking an SUV was arrested at his home recently, and under the most ironic circumstances you could imagine. When police arrived at his home for stealing cars in real life, he was stealing cars in a videogame -- playing Grand Theft Auto III. No further evidence required, methinks.

Michael Ray Ekes of Haines City, Florida, had left the stolen vehicle outside of his home, which, of course, led police to a fairly easy arrest. The suspect was found playing GTA III as police apprehended him for real-world grand theft auto. For reasons not made clear, Ekes was asked what he thought of the game. He replied, "It's a blast."

Sheriff Grady Judd offered a slice of personal advice by telling the world that "crime is not a game." He also added that "Real-life crime has real-life consequences -- and I hope he goes to prison for a good long while, where they don't have Grand Theft Auto video games."

Ekes is currently on bail after receiving two grand theft auto charges. He was also on probation for other offenses. It's not yet clear if he'll try and claim that GTA III made him do it. The audacity would be a sight to behold, though.

GTA4 was a huge boring dissapointment that was tedious and not fun at all to play. I will not be getting this DLC thats for sure.

Yeah that was hilarious. Jack Thompson would have been all over that if he wasn't disbarred.

"Gay Tony" is maybe the funniest GTA game ever. Just the writing and "performances" in the cut scenes are better than most of the movies released today.
I actually bought GTA4 on release date but never finished it before like... 4 months ago. Might give this a go. I know a co-worker is playing the game right now so he'll probably get it.

Anyone know how many gigs and the cost for these downloads on the 360? Is it $10 or $20 for both?
I love GTA, this is great news.
on XBOX it looks like they are about 2 gigs each and 1600 points (about $20.00 each) I have no clue if that's what the final price will be when it's launched for ps3.

50 million were only rumors and no one knows the details regarding what it paid for.

I for one am glad it's coming to PS3. I haven't picked it up on 360 yet, too much back log, but I am one of the few that loved GTA4. Plan to get the 2 addons on disk on the cheap one day

Right, there are a ton of other things that $50 million could have been for.

Point still stands, no one, neither here nor anywhere outside the rooms that the contracts were written out, knows the details of what happened and what the contracts/payments entail. You guys can act like fanboys taking jabs all you want but the good news here which is overshadowed by brand loyalty is those once exclusive DLC episodes are coming to PS3 and PC. No one here knows if part of the agreements were to actually bring GTA4 to the 360 or be timed exclusive or if MS would get a cut if it went elsewhere. $25mil an episode is A LOT to pay for just DLC, and to put it in perspective, a game like Halo 3 was estimated cost around $30mil to make. Common sense to me says there's a lot more to it than just '$25mil per episode'.
I myself expected that eventually it would be ported to other platforms when the steam wears off. So this news isn't surprising to me.

In the end, why does it matter at all to you guys anyways who paid what? Be happy you're getting DLC for a popular game where the story in those DLC episodes is apparently better than the story in the actual game.

I'd love for you to point out anywhere in this thread where anyone was taking jabs at MS, or Take 2.

The only person freaking out about it is you.

Put down the koolaid and just look at the 5th post that I replied to in this very single paged thread

$50mil thing is like sales thing, stupid to talk about it unless you want to follow fanboy drivel. But like Amazon, things only matter when it fits the agenda. It's not a freakout. It's pointing out the obvious.

To be back on topic, any news if both will be on a disk like the 360 version? I have a buddy who loved GTA4 but doesn't go online much and always wanted to play through the extra episode stories that came on 360. I myself told him I don't think it'll stay permanently on 360 and now with this news he's really happy.
It will probably be on the disk. Hell since its on a Blu-Ray they'll probably find some way to just put it all on one disk.
Approx. 7.6 million copies of GTA4 were sold for the xbox360 and 6.2 million copies were sold for the PS3. Considering the xbox 360 install base advantage back when the game was released, I am not convinced that the DLC helped 360 console sales that much....
GTA3 was the big "casual" game of last generation. The game sold like mad, then it filled up used bins for years. The same thing happened with GTA4, the multiplayer wasn't good enough to keep people playing.

Most copies of GTA4 were collecting dust by the time Rockstar announced what the exclusive DLC was.

True. A single BD25 would fit it no problem. Not sure of the 2 episodes on disk for 360 were on same disk, and if so expect it.

I really need to pick this up. My friend likes the game but he said the stories in ep1 and ep2, especially gay tony, are worth the price alone.
I had more fun with both of the expansions than the full game (and I really liked GTAIV).
