Hopefully you guys can help me answer a question. Sony was no help to me at all. They just refused to answer a simple question. They just kept on referring me to links and more links.
I have a Sony KDS-R60 XBR2 TV and have my computer connected to it. My previous connection was a follows. I had it connected to video 6 via componet cables and had a mini jack "Y" cable from my soundcard to RCA plugs for left and right audio in to my TV on Video 6. I also had this "Y" cable split to output audio to my home surround receiver. Audio worked perfectly through both the TV and the receiver. I recently purchased a new graphics card with an HDMI output for my computer and installed it. The graphics card outputted both video and HDMI audio. I now had to connect the computer to the TV using an HDMI input on the TV, think I used Video 3 just to test. Audio worked fine through the HDMI cable, but audio was no longer working to my receiver. This was due to the fact that the HDMI audio became the default sound device on my computer and my sound card was no longer outputting to my receiver or the TV, audio was only being outputted through the HDMI cable. This really wasn't a problem because I had read that people were having frame rate problems with this graphics card. Video and games would appear choppy and would lag and it was due to the HDMI audio. A simple disabling of the HDMI audio in Device Manager in Windows would turn off HDMI audio and make the choppiness and lagging go away. This would also allow me to set my soundcard as the default audio device, thus getting back audio through my receiver. I would now have to change my connection from my computer to my TV from Video 3 to Video 8 so I could get audio through my TV. Video 8 allows for a DVI device to be connected to the TV via a DVI to HDMI cable or convertor and with the use of RCA cables for audio. I made this connection (mind you, I used a HDMI cable to connect the computer to the TV, no use of a DVI cable) and still have audio through the receiver but NO AUDIO through the TV. I checked my connections and still no audio. I then decided to unplug the RCA cables connected to Video 8 and plug them into Video 6 on the TV. I then switched the TV input to Video 6 and low and behold I had audio. This at least let me know my soundcard was indeed outputting audio. I then plugged the RCA cables back into Video 8 and NO AUDIO. I got to thinkng that maybe there was some type of limitation on Video 8. Would the TV "Turn Off" the RCA audio inputs on Video 8 if it detected audio through the HDMI cable? You have to remember now, that I disabled HDMI audio through Windows and when I did so, I no longer had audio coming through the HDMI cable (confirmed this by connecting the computer to the TV via the HDMI cable, I got video but no audio). So since there was no HDMI audio, the RCA inputs shouldn't be "turned off." Then I thought to disconnect the HDMI cable to Video 8 all together and just leave the RCA audio cables plugged in. I still didn't get audio. I then did the Video 6 switch and I did have audio through Video 6. So I put everything back to Video 8, HDMI cable connected to TV from computer with HDMI audio turned off and RCA cables connected for audio. This connection yielded no audio through the TV, but audio through the receiver. Now for the weird part. On occasion, upon boot up of my computer, when it goes into Windows I hear the Windows boot up music through the TV and then I have no audio the rest of the session. Again, this is just a few rare times, most of the time there is no audio at all. Now just Friday I booted up the computer and had audio through the TV during Windows boot up and all day long. I turned the computer off and booted up the next day only to find I lost audio again. So I ask after this long winded drawn out post, do you think there is something wrong with my RCA audio inputs on Video 8 or do you think it is something else? I just don't want to disconnect everything and lug the TV in for repair if there is nothing wrong with it.
Thanks in advance,
Chris
