Netflix Watch Instantly: Gems and Finds - Page 53

I was happy to find Jean Luc Goddard's "Film Socialisme" available. It is more a visual poem than a movie but film buffs will find it interesting.

+ 1 for Holiday In Handcuffs, which is very predictable and very cute. I gave it 3 stars. It was a good movie to watch with the wife.

Have some kids visiting so have been watching more than my fair share of animated fare lately. Really enjoyed Dragon Hunters, a total fantasy that is visually stunning. I rolled on the floor when up galloped the knight "Sir Lens Flare", whose armor as you might expect flashed unremittingly, and who was fixated on choking himself in crazed fashion. A nice commentary on lens flare that echoes my own sentiments and a clever way to put something in there that would be funny for kids and adults alike for completely different reasons.

Glad you liked it.

If you want awesome HD anime check out Tony Stark in Ironman, Japanese anime of the highest quality, just stunning on the Mac Mini servicing the 65" LCD in the living room. My 4 yo son is in love with it, of course i have been getting punched a lot too.

Thank you, definitely great thriller, the roller blade and sauna action alone would make it a hit, the plot was little bit loose, but everything elase kept me on the edge of the seat.

Yup...Thought someone would like it as much as I did. Here is another most excellent film I thought:

Stark Raving Mad

It should be noted that the film is in Spanish with hard English subs, for those who object to that. I just watched the first couple of minutes and the transfer exhibits some pretty severe judder.

I did enjoy Timecrimes, but it's been probably 18 months since I watched it. I do like time travel movies and this one was pretty decent.

Checked my netflix history and it was June '09 on streaming. I don't recall judder or anything, but I'm guessing I watched it on my 360 back then.

The film begins with a drive through a highway from an urban into a suburban setting. The driver pulls up to a house and his tailgate evidently pops up, spilling a trail of cargo behind him. The camera pans from the beginning of the stuff spilled on the drive back to the car and the judder is so extreme as to be nearly nauseating. I only watched a little bit, but if that's a taste I don't know if I want to watch the rest.

I watched it on my Roku 2, BDT110 and TiVo and it's all the same (the TiVo is using a different set of encodings). I notice on the BDT110 that it has available 5.1 sound, though it's one of those for which the Roku 2 doesn't detect that, so you can't ask for it.

TVandMoviesNow.com says that it was added on 30 April 2009, so it has been around for a while.

(Previously mentioned by others). Low-budget-but-you-wouldn't-know-it sci-fi flick. Sort of a cross between Cloverfield and Lost in Translation . I liked it a lot.

Finally watched this. It was pretty good. Felt like a Cloverfield/District 9 but with very little alien sightings. Kinda felt like a metaphor for illegal aliens as well (like D9)

If you enjoyed ''The Good, The Bad, The Weird'', then this film may also be to your liking.
The Butcher, the Chef and the Swordsman

Netflix now has a few films that made several critic top ten lists last year, including
Certified Copy, a French film written and directed by Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami and set in Tuscany, in English, French and Italian.
The plot centers on a day between an English author and a French antique dealer and takes an unusual turn. After watching, you may wonder what is real, and what is the certified copy.
The film has been likened to Before Sunrise and Inception and while fascinating, I'm not sure it belongs in that company. Kiarostami has a knack for framing the action in very subtle ways that reveal so much.
Juliette Binoche has received much acclaim for her performance, but I was rather impressed with 59 year old British opera baritone William Shimell in his first film!

Next up:
Meek's Cutoff

Just a heads up, in case anyone is interested - HD-trailers has a new feature that puts 1080p (if available) trailers up of new content from netflix, BD/DVD releases and instant stream releases. It updates per week i think.

I dunno if anyone really cares, but one of my problems was always finding something I'D LIKE to watch, this thread is nice but everyone has there personal palate. This makes it alittle easier IMO, puts everything on a single page to preview and makes my life a tad bit easier.

The Filmspotting podcast has a new spinoff that reviews offerings on various streaming services: http://filmspotting.net/svu.html
It's pretty good so far for finding offbeat films on Netflix.

This title is about a Doctor that has possible found a way to treat cancer with out the drugs that will halfway kill the patient to do so.

The medical establishment has been after him for 30 years now to revoke his license and put him in prison and out of business.

Really interesting film. Please realize going in this is not a balanced film. It is there to tell his side of the story.

They never said the cured cancer.

It isn't guaranteed but some of the preliminary #'s have some forms of cancer quadrupling the recovery % as high as the 20-25% mark. It still means that 3/4's of cancer patients will die.

Yes, I know / I watched the doc .. they would like you to think they can cure cancer .. I thought it was total BS .. if they really had that great of a sucess rate, folks would be beating the door down ..

You must have not watched the same documentary. When they list that they have some recovery rates in the 25 percentile it is usually out out of 100%.

I think a normal person could then reductively deduce that the other 75% don't make it.

Like I said, I watched it .. you want to believe in VooDoo medicine, then feel free .. it's not for me ..

Where did I say I believe?

I'm not believing anything. I thought it was interesting and a bit thought provoking. Waiting for the Phase III clinical trials to finish and see what the science has to say about this particular approach to cancer therapy. My 'hope' would be that the clinical trials would mirror his results. It would be great to have more effective options for cancer victims.

I find it amazing that the TMB (Texas Medical Board) has taken him to court (5 times now since he is back in court in 2012) and come up empty handed even with a couple hundred thousand pieces of his own records that they seized.

Tidal Wave is a Korean disaster film that is pretty well done. I've also made it through episode 6 of 8 for Lilyhammer.
