Very raw, no holds barred stuff, well written and acted. Netflix has 5 seasons, or "series"--series 6 is airing now. Each cast gets two series (someone's little sister bled over into series 3), so series 5 starts a 3rd cast. (One of the series 1 & 2 actors went on to play the lead in Slumdog Millionaire).

Skins is/was fantastic. Series 1 &2 will always be way above the rest IMO, probably due to Nic Hoult's character and Sid. but I enjoyed some of the characters in 3 & 4. I tried watching series 5 and can't get into it.

Really enjoyed Atlas Shrugged, which is another outstanding HD PQ offering which I've been seeing more of lately. Though I have not read Atlas Shrugged, I did read The Fountainhead and was pleased to see that the film is true to Rand's philosophy, which is to say that there is something therein to piss-off just about everyone, particularly the political extremes of today, both left and right.

I loved Ayn Rand when I was a teen; I'll have to check out Atlas Shrugged. (I noticed that it's only part 1 of 2). If you haven't you should see Gary Cooper as Howard Roarke and Patricia Neal as Dominique Francon in the 1949 movie of The Fountainhead. It's available as Amazon Prime VOD if you're an Prime member.

Yep, you're right but I'll take a pass on this one.

I watched it too but will pass on comment other than it seemed like an after school movie for teens.

Watched Casino Jack tonight. Very good movie, based on true events.

It is preachy, no doubt about it. I was just really surprised that it came out so clearly with Rand's quite extreme belief system (which I find interesting but not really suitable for the human animal - similar to communism in that sense). I have to admit it helped a lot that I found the lead actress so attractive.

I am loving the first Netflix original series Lilyhammer, which mines a lot of politically incorrect humor out of the clash of cultures. Clever and funny but perhaps not for the overly sensitive.

I mentioned that a couple of weeks ago back here and there was some discussion of it recapped in this post.

Two new excellent docs: American Teacher and Chasing Ghosts: Beyond the Arcade, for all you who were caught up in the video game explosion in the late 70's and early 80's (my personal favorite: Galaga). Also thought Senna was very, very good. The Wave was another entertaining film.

Has anyone tried the "Doc Martin" British TV series? Odd humor but addictive.

Martin Clunes is hilarious in that show. While only available on disc currently, Reggie Perrin, which also stars Clunes, is more of that odd, quirky humor.

Fourth week and counting, hardly ANY new films in New Arrivals. I guess Roger Ebert was correct but I would love to find some follow-up.

Fling was a good movie. Starts off with a young couple in an open relationship and then some interesting things happen. Thought it was pretty good.

I suppose that depends upon your definition of "hardly ANY" .

There have been 388 new titles released on or after 1 March. That includes 169 TV titles, 179 movie titles, 195 HD titles (105 movies), 53 titles with 5.1 sound (31 movies) and 113 titles with closed captions (39 movies). (The numbers are slightly inflated with some new TV series counted multiple times, once for the whole series and once for each season).

In general they add a buttload of new titles on the 1st, with a few here and there through the rest of the month (117 added after the 1st, so maybe more than a few; that makes 271 on the 1st).

Not sure how you are counting these but this is what I get from IW when I search for new arrivals since March 1 for 2010-2012 content:

Around 96 movies of which many are not even movies such as MSNBC Films, WWE etc. Also there are a lot of duplicate entries so the number of actual new movies since march 1 is probably less than 80.

Some of these are recycled such as Rajneeti that I saw on NF last year.

And I get only 80 TV titles since March 1 for 2010-2012 content with several silly items like CNBC productions.

Perhaps you are defining new as 2009 or even 2008....

I'm using TVandMoviesNow.com; I trust it more than InstantWatcher, which I've caught in several lies in the past. I didn't say that none of them weren't available before. AFAIK there's no way to know that.

It considers anything that's not a TV series to be a movie; that's Netflix's criteria.

I did quote a couple of numbers wrong--the total was 348 not 388, which'd make the count of those released on the first 231, not 271.

InstantWatcher and TVandMoviesNow are in pretty violent disagreement about some things. For instance, TV&MN lists 6 titles as being released today, none of which are on IW's list at all (as well as one released yesterday). Search for them and IW doesn't find them, period. Click through to their Netflix pages at TV&MN and there they are as available Netflix streams. (It's a pity that there's no way to check the accuracy of the added-to-Netflix-streams dates that I know of. IW thinks that two seasons of Dragnet were added today whereas TV&MN thinks that they were added in December of 2007).

I don't care when something was added. Either they have it or they don't. That's all that matters.

The complaint was that they weren't adding enough new stuff. Though they might not be adding a lot of new stuff that you want to see, I question whether it can be said that they're not adding "hardly ANY" new titles .

Guilty pleasure, but I have been absolutely tearing through Saved By the Bell.

Not sure if it's technically a "gem", but it's streaming!

You sure are brave admitting that.

Watched The Chaser tonight, excellent movie.

First off it was NOT a complaint but an observation and a possible tie to what Ebert said. Secondly compared to what I used to see weekly it IS "hardly any." But I guess some don't watch as close as I do.

And then today I get this "Terms" and "Privacy" agreements we are supposed to agree to. Have you looked at how long they are? I haven't clicked on "I agree" yet and may ask for a "changes" list from them. That's the least they can do. Or get sharks that can cut it down to a paragraph or two.

Sorry for calling it a complaint. How many new titles are you used to seeing weekly? I certainly do check for new titles multiple times a week and haven't personally noticed any drop-off.

When and where did you get this new agreement? I went to the Netflix site, logged off and logged back in and wasn't presented with any new agreement.

They updated their TOS with the "you agree not to sue us" stuff that's become all the rage with companies today.

http://www.hackingnetflix.com/2012/0...-lawsuits.html

I have yet gotten a notification of it that I need to accept.

Yeah--I just read that piece. It's "you agree not to sue us in court and resolve any issue you have with us via binding arbitration". I personally have no problem with that inasmuch as I doubt that I'd ever have an issue with them which'd give me grounds for suit anyway.

It's hard for me to imagine a situation wherein a company that delivers disks to my mailbox would harm me in any way to the point where hiring a lawyer and filing suit would be cost-justified.

Maybe if I slit my jugular open with a broken disc, but even then I can't imagine how I'd accomplish such a feat accidentally (let alone if I tried).

Well, it's mostly to prevent class action suits, if my understanding is correct.

A lot of companies are putting in similar wording lately.
As if that would stop a class suit .. "Call Saul" ...

Not for everyone but Chop is now WI and is a dark comedy horror film. I do like that Netflix is now advising on the disc queue if a title is about to become WI. And yes the terms and privacy agree nag is on every page (I haven't "agreed" yet).
