Netflix Watch Instantly: Gems and Finds - Page 70

I just noticed that Battle Royale is in the library! I loved that movie (from a story which is thought to have inspired The Hunger Games, though they have little in common other than the central throw-a-bunch-of-kids-into-an-arena-to-fight-to-the-death scenario). I really enjoyed that film, though it lacked the big budget Hollywood polish of Hunger Games. It's in HD, though sadly only stereo sound, in Japanese with English subtitles (which you can turn off--never seen that in a foreign language film on Netflix before). Warning--it's pretty gory. I loved the song played over the credits so much that I had to track a download of it down, which wasn't easy ("Shizukana Hibi no Kaidan Wo (Climb the Stairs of Quiet Days)" by Dragon Ash).

They also have Battle Royale 2, a sequel I never knew existed; I gotta watch it (though Netflix viewers who loved the first one generally did not like it) smile.gif.

Probably can buy it for $1.98 at a used DVD store. But Netflix just did a deal with Dizzney so it may show up there soon.

"CraigsList Joe" .. an incredibly moving documentary that shows, even jaded folks like me, that the spirit of America is alive and thriving ..

Well worth a watch ..

Does Netflix have the English detective series "George Gently" available for streaming? It's a really good series (one notch below Prime Suspect). I temporarily stopped my Netflix subscription, so I can't search for it.

If you saw the TV show "Outsourced", where the guy from a novelty company has to go to India after they outsourced the call center, then maybe you don't know it was a movie before that? The original is available for streaming: Outsourced
Unlike the TV series, most of this was actually filmed in India, with a few bits in Seattle. It actually won a bunch of awards.

Watched the film version awhile ago and liked it better than the parts of the few TV episodes I saw.

Haywire is now available. It scored an 80% on Rottentomatoes.

I mentioned that here about a month ago.

But can you get a "coming soon for WI" on the Netflix site? Maybe but it sure isn't obvious. You could put a movie in your DVD queue and it would tell you when and if it was going to be available. I find instant watcher useful in seeing when a title may be available (since they admit the info may not be correct).

If you mean WII , last time I tried, Pressing the trigger button brings up a submenu listing all the sort options. .. if you did not mean WII, then I don't know what WI means ..

WI means "Watch Instantly." It's been an acronym used a lot around here such as "NF WI".

If you go to Netflix's site it's the first of the pulldown menus on the banner or it is if you have a streaming-only account. When the streaming service debuted they called "Watch Now"; perhaps there were copyright issues with that.

We watched Margin Call the other night and really enjoyed it.

(while they don't count as 'finds' we also watched Hugo and The Artist in the last couple of weeks - both were great)

If you enjoyed the campy fun of ''Mars Attacks''. then give new arrival ''Iron Sky'' a try.

It's a handsomely made sci fi comedy-not some cheap jack Asylum crap made in a bomb shelter in 2 days...biggrin.gif

The Pact as well as Fire with Fire .. both a good watch

I liked American Grindhouse. It's a documentary about exploitation films. They show some film clips with nudity, adult language, and some over the top violence so you may not want to watch this one with the kids.

Rat Race is one of my all-time favorite comedies.

Pretty nice list, though like all such, highly subjective. If I'd ordered the same list of films I don't know how many of his top 10 would have been in mine.

Indeed. Some are not my cup of tea.

Sadly no DD+ 5.1 and it looks to be limited to 720p HD (no way to tell for sure with the new HD encodes, but it never gets above "Medium/HD" on the PS3). Like so many big-ticket titles added recently, it can only be watched in SD in the Windows 8 app or web player.
