Just watched it and I agree; I won't be going to any parks which keep orcas. (Not saying much; I shared a home for a year which was about 1.5 miles from Seaworld San Diego and never went biggrin.gif. I'm a 14 mile drive from it now).

Just watched myself, it's not that great of a documentary stylistically, even if it has a good message. Can't blame them at all for putting it out, apparently the loss of life was always underplayed by the business. It may be the best memorial for those workers. Businesses have a nasty habit of that and I wonder if any pauper policies were in play? One thing is for sure, those workers are way braver than me.

I'm glad you liked it. Right after watching it I didn't know if I liked it or not. The next day I couldn't stop thinking about it.

Not particularly my cuppa tea but "Bounty Killer" was okay. It's a Kickstarter graphic novel cum movie that was added yesterday. Probably a bit more cartoonish than what I was looking for and I wasn't that fond of the heavy use of music during the action scenes.

Considering the original intent of this thread is Gems and finds not new releases and "whats on the popular list" I'm going to get this thread back to what it should be. We are looking for good movies here people, not pieces of fodder thrown to the masses for consumption without chewing. Of course I have my own preferences when it comes to movies and I consider my preferences more refined than most. I want something that makes me think, shows me something new. I'm not too much into newer films for various reasons. Mainly because most newer movies try to shock viewers too much. Anyway, here are a few that make the grade for me. Let me know what you think. BTW it often happens that when I watch movies they hit a common theme. These two share mental hospitals in common.

Heroes 1977 Stars Henry Winkler( stellar performance) Sally Field, and Harrison Ford as a redneck. I really liked these characters.
Dream Team 1989 Just being able to watch Michael Keaton and Christopher Lloyd together is worth it for this one. I really like this one especially the beginning.

and

Sometimes a Great Notion 1971 Great Log cutting scenes. At the end I was saying "Oh no he didn't" You may have seen this one on tv. I saw part of the end when I was 3 but didn't know what it was about. Very tense moments in this one.

Couldn't make it through the first 20 minutes. As a former actor, I extended my professional courtesy and turned it off. wink.gif

And they should be movies that can be watched instantly, not DVD's .

If you find something mentioned which is only available on disc from Netflix it probably was available for streaming at one point but they've since lost those rights and not renewed them.

Every one of the movies I mentioned is on streaming at this time. If your in the USA should be able to watch it. BTW folks is there anyone out there that has seen a really good movie that you really had to mine the service to find the title? A true Hidden gem. Something very few people have heard of....but it rocked your world.

I thought Red State was very good. I hadn't heard of it before finding it on Netflix. It doesn't really fit the horror genre but I suppose that's the closest match.

Though it is horrifying there's nothing supernatural about it. I thought it was pretty good.

As far as, "Something very few people have heard of....but it rocked your world," goes, I think that something that very few people have heard of that you enjoyed is good enough.

"Wish You Were Here" is an Australian thriller (and not on the popular list). I like films with settings we don't usually see, in this case Cambodia.

Joko Anwar's Modus Anomali aka Ritual.

Somewhat in the vein of "Kentucky Fried Movie" ....

"Movie 43" .. has some fairly hilarious moments, sports an all-star cast ..

It, however, is likely not everyone's cup of tea ..

These may not all be 'Gems and Finds', but they are disappearing in the next few days:

I have no doubt that licensing for many of them will be immediately renewed.

I honestly had high hopes for this one after seeing the cast and the trailer, but felt it fell short on laughs. Definitely didn't live up to the hype I built in my mind for it.

I really did not go into it with high expectations since I'd never heard of it yet it had a great cast ... the Hugh Jackman / Kate Winslet bit was probably the funniest .. downhill from there ...

Thanks for pointing this out. Terrific movie.

If you get a chance rent the DVD and listen to Uwe Boll's commentary. He talks a lot about distribution issue facing filmmakers these days.
