Sony XBR3 vs. XBR9

I have a Sony 46XBR2 which is same as the 46XBR3 , and will have a Samsung UN46B8500 delivered on Friday . The XBR has an incredible picture and I hope the Samsung will be big improvement . Will know for sure on Friday.

The tech has had a couple years to mature since the xbr2/3 series debut in 2006. Although the xbr2/3's and 4/5's of 2007 were among the best when released and can still hold up remarkably well to the newer tech, I'd go with the xbr8 if they can still be found in the wild. It was Sony's last truly technological groundbreaking set. I don't believe the 8 comes in a 52" size. I think it's either 46 or 55", so if a 55 works I wouldn't hesitate to grab it if I was in your position.

The xbr9 is a nice set with 3 years of lessons learned and incorporated into the video processing engine. If an 8 can't be found, I don't think you'd be disappointed with a 9.

As for the NX series, I'd wait till they have some penetration into homes, before I'd be eager to jump on it. Not to say it won't be a good set, but I'd rather a known (8 or 9) than bleeding edge.

I think someone had posted that they find the XBR9 a noticeable improvement over XBR4, so it should be safe to say it'll be a noticeable improvement over XBR2/3...
