Sony HDR-CX150 Vs Canon HF200

I just preordered the Sony CX150, but reading up on camcorders the pixel density has me concerned. I want good image quality and will mostly be shooting indoors. I hear the canons are the best, but it may be over kill for what I would like.

Also, the Sony is the smallest out there, which is a great feature.

What do you guys think of the CX150?

I'm debating between the same two cameras. Does the fact that the HF200 records in 1080p and the CX150 records in 1080i with 1080p/60 playback make a difference? Will the difference between the 1080p HF200 and 1080i CX150 even be noticeable? I know that's an old argument, the whole 1080i vs 1080p thing, and based on what I've read, the answer is no, but just curious about it in this situation.

From the Sony website:
Memory Stick® Pro Duo Media Compatibility :
Tested to support up to 16GB media capacity;
does not support high speed transfer function;
does not support Access Control security function.

Can someone explain what the last two mean. I'm a noob to the whole camcorder arena. Does that mean it transfers slow to the computer? And I have no idea what Access Control security is.

The HF200 to my knowledge does not record in 1080P

I thought it did but I'm just getting that off of CNET's specs for the camera.

I have the CX150 in my possesion and just took a quick video with it. It looks nice for what I want to use it for.

The autofocus is fast and the anti shake is pretty darn good.

THis is my first video camera though, and I'm just looking for something thats easy and simple to use, thats compact.

It's pretty light weight, my gf was very pleased with it's size and weight.

The low light performance is not grainy at all. Right now it's charging up, hopefully I can get some video of a concert Im going to tonight and post it.

cool glad you're happy with it

can't wait to see if you post any test footage and read a review of it if you post one...

I didn't take it to the concert like I wanted to, because I thought they wouldn't let me in. (BOY WAS I WRONG, and now regret not taking it)

I havent used it that much yet but I guess I could take some footage of my house and neighborhood and post it for you guys so you can judge the footage on your own. I'm really not that qualified to judge.

Tell me a website that will accept this video and I'll post it.

I will not be posting that many video's because it takes a ton of time. a 1:19 video took me 20 minutes. I have one longer video that I'm trying to upload to megaupload website.

I may upload the smaller video's to youtube if it doesn't take too long.

I'm trying to upload a 1 gig video on megaupload right now and have been doing so for the past 2 hours. It's only 45% done.

I'm going to try rapid share.

since you are uploading a file the size of about 1 GB

for megaupload, you must be a member (free to join), else the max upload size is 500mb (members are 2gb, premium members are unlimited)

for rapidshare, you must upload using their program to upload or else it's limited to 200mb if you just do it through their website

i guess megaupload is the better bet

Would you be able to post them on vimeo?

Vimeo has file size limits.

I'm at 45% after 4 hours with mega upload. It's not looking good guys. I may have to convert to mp4 and downgrade the quality which is a huge waste.

I was going over the specs published on Sony's website and I'm getting the impression that the CX150 is only capable of using 16gb class 4 sd cards. Were you able to use anything bigger or faster than that? Also, can you record directly to a sd card?

I've been trying to come up with advantages and disadvantages (based on the manufactuers' specs) for each model. I'm still on the fence between the two cameras. Please feel free to correct anything.

CX150:
Advantages:
1920x1080/60p playback
25x optical zoom
16gb built in flash memory
More compact size
Exmos R CMOS sensor - better low light performance

Disadvantages:
Only uses up to 16gb flash (expandable) memory
No inputs for external mics or lights
No built in flash

HF200:
Advantages:
Greater megapixel actual resolution
Inputs for external mics and other accessories
Capable of using 32gd sdhc cards
Records in 24p and 30p
Bigger aperture range

Disadvantages:
Lower optical zoom
Lower quality in low light

Anything else I'm missing? Please feel free to add or correct anything. Hopefully this helps anyone else debating the two.

another camera suggestion is the panasonic hdc-sd60. i believe it would be like the canon except a bit cheaper ($450 @ b&h) but with no mic jack or 24/30p. it is a new sensor for pana so i dont know how itd perform

I noticed that the Sony CX150 has "Steady Shot" for their image stabilization rather than "Super Steady Shot". If I remember correctly, the Steady Shot is more electronic image stabilization while the SuperSteadyShot is optical image stabilization.

Just hooked it up to my PS3 via USB and the video looks glorious. My laptop screen doesn't do it justice.

I think it's electronic and not optical stabilization
