BB matched there price so I got it there. Nice camera and I have had several Canons in the past and still own a Canon HV20. I just wish they would have more accessories for the camera at BB, as Sony site has full retail on everything. Hell even at 15% off coupon I got for buying this camcorder it is still cheaper to buy from B&H.

I got mine for $440 plus tax, so it was the cheapest thing smokin at the time.

I made MY post in the WRONG THREAD and left that since I couldn't delete it.

Thanks for asking and assuming I was talking directly to you and a post you made apparently without my having made any reference to you or one of your posts at all.

I was only assuming, as your original posted wasn't directed towards anyone specific. I also tried to correct my post after I saw you corrected yours, which is odd because your thread was more
specific when I was replying to it, it read more than just "Wrong Thread" which seems odd.

whats the max sdhc card size I can add to the cx150? And does anyone know if it will seemlessly switch from internal to external memory?
I ended up just ordering the cx150 off amazon.

This is my first camcorder, it already comes w/ a 16gb internal memory. Do you guys recommend I buy another sdhc card?

playaj, what kind of case are you using?
I just wish there was a head to head comparison between the two cameras

Don't recommend buying another card, 16gb should be plenty sufficient. 32GB is the highest SDHC cards, SDXC cards go higher but are not supported in this camera and are very expensive.

I don't use a case at the moment. Cases add bulk and expense, i just go without.

Yeah that would've been nice. But I guess most people just look at what they need a camera for and go from there.

I needed something small with internal memory at a good price, and for me the Sony was much smaller and a little bit cheaper. (I was originally considering cams like the Bloggie, but wanted better vid quality)

I have canon digital/DSLR cams so I'm a big fan of Canon, but the HF200 was just physically a too big for what I needed. The Canon is one of the best cams in it's class as far as image quality goes and probably beats the Sony in everything aside from low light and stability.

playaj

what would you recomend i a new to camcorders so i want something user friendly. i will mainly use it to video tape my hunts which include quite of bit of low light shooting. i would like to shoot my motocross races, size really doesn't matter because both of these camera are small. i might add a external mic. battery life is semi important. I want the controls to be easy to use. Also i want one that makes it easy to transfer my video and put them on a DVD

This sony is basically point and click, all of the settings are auto, and thats one of it's main selling points. Also, this camera touts it's ability of direct to dvd ripping. It has a good back lit sensor for low light situations, and thats what it is known for.

I do recommend this camera, but I can't really speak for the Canon. I'm pretty sure the canon is a great cam.

The Sony cam has better anti shake and a 25x optical zoom allowing you to get closer to the action from farther away. (The canon is only 15x). The canon doesn't have built in memory so the maximum memory you could use is 32GB, the Sony has 16GB built in plus the ability to use 32GB SD Cards.
Get the SONY

After reading this thread and some others I have just purchased the sony handycam. Anyone have any good links to detailed reviews or videos showing features/usage etc. This will be my first camcorder and it arrives in a few days. I did a bit of research to settle on this one but, I would still love to have more info.

Also, is this camcorder able to take full advantage of class 10 SDHC over class 6 or class 4. I have the money to spend on a faster card but dont want to if I dont have to.

thx

I have the CX150, too. I'm going to use mine on vacation so I won't have access to a computer (not bringing my laptop) so I bought some extra 16gb sd cards just in case I run out of space. I went with 2-16gb instead of a 32gb because the cost for the two 16gb was cheaper than one 32gb and, after getting some advice from pro photographers, it's better to have multiple smaller cards just in case something crashes you won't lose everything. The internal memory should suffice but if you're in a position where you might fill up and not be able to upload, get some extra cards.

As far as cases go, I'm using the Lowepro Rezo 60. It's a digital camera case but the CX150 fits nicely even though the case is a little big. I also tried the Rezo 50 but that's too snug. The Rezo 60 also fits nicely on my Lowepro SlingShot 200.

SouthCali. Thanks for your recommendations.

Too good to be true but I ordered one and they said it shipped today. We'll see. My bet is it's the FS100 std def but if it isn't, I'd jump all over this (and I DID).

I'm sure I'll end up getting in an argument over it and it will end up costing me $25 to ship the thing back but I rolled the dice anyway. Worse case, maybe they'll end up just giving me one to avoid negative feedback (Adorama's huge and probably would figure it's not worth it to get the negative feedback).

Just Bought the Sony CX150 from Amazon ($506 delivered).
LOVE the small form factor and the low light (normal indoor at night) capabilities.

Haven't used the software yet... but it does record HD or SD

Some notes from the manual:

Battery Time(HD times below - SD is about 50% more):
Continuous Record: 125 min
Typical Record: 60 min (zooming, on/off, etc...)
Playback: 190 min

Also the record time on the internal 16 GB shows 3hr 50min at HD-High Quality Setting. There are two higher settings (HD-FH 1h+55 min; and HD-FX 1h+25 min). Not sure the difference in the settings...The reviews I read were concerning the HD-HQ setting. Those who have this what do you use & why?

One other feature of note...
For those going on vacation without a laptop, this Camcorder will allow you to transfer files directly to a USB hard drive (no PC required). Might be easier(cheaper) to just bring along a very small USB drive rather than pay for more Memory Sticks.

Be glad to answer any questions

After much agonizing, I was leaning toward getting the CX150, but now am also thinking about the Canon HF S100. I'm using it for basic family and travel stuff. I've got a new PC (with a Blu-ray burner) that should be able to handle either. The CX150 is about $550 from Amazon and other reputable sellers, and the HF S100 is $700. The difference in $$ doesn't really trouble me, as long as the value is there. I'd appreciate any thoughts.

The Canon HF200 is just as good as the sony in low light, just has a little more noise. Canon has the sharpness level cranked up to the max on these cams but I would still take the HF200 all day long over the sony.

the hf200 didnt have better low light then the cx100, and the cx110 has better lowlight then the cx100
post #85 of 103
I have ran test on both in the same situation and I am just not seeing the sony's as being much better. I think you would have to get down to some really low light conditions before the sony would show improvments over the canon, like one candle lighting a room.

Does the SOny cx150 automatically switch from internal memory to the memory stick. I understand there maybe a slight pause while switching occurs.

Thanks. and thanks to all those that have posted videos, I was initially looking at the standard def sx63, but I think the 150 will be worth the additional money

Just as a sidelight, having more noise in the video is what many of us might define as "not being as good in low light". That, and having the colors wash out more or less sharpness. But I went with a Sony last fall specifically to get rid of the low-light noise. However, that was in the 500 series and I can't offer any direct input on the 100 series cams.

The 500 series kicks arse in low light but the 100 series looks more like standard definition in low light. Theres not as much noise there as the canons but theres less detail too.

Hi all,

have have posted 2 tests with the CX155 on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLjXTuAVwOg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0pZMf6JKJI

Just remember that the original files are better quality (just a bit) and motion is smoother, youtube likes to mess this up.
Its a basic point and shoot cam that does excellent for this price. Low light is not very good, it's ok, but which cam is very good in this price range?

I will have the more expensive CANON HF S20 in a couple of weeks, so I'll post some clips when I have it.

The CX155 is a great little cam!
