I changed the audio settings to 5.1 channel, and did tests of each channel to make certain they were all working and properly assigned. When WMP played the files, the Denon would get 5.1 channels – but they would be all switched around (i.e front left would be in left rear, sub would be in rear right, center in left front, etc.). When I went back to the audio settings and re-ran the tests, the channels were now switched around to the wrong places here too (as mentioned in the last sentence). If I re-set the audio as 2-channel, tested, then went back and reset and retested all in 5.1 channel, everything would go back to its proper location – until I played the files again in WMP (which would then move the channels around again). Anyone have any ideas for this?

See #3 in the OP. Just out of curiosity, what output settings do you have for Windows (16/24 bit, 44.1/48/88.2/96/176.4/192 kHz)?

Gee I only hope ATI can come up with a fix for this EDID audio crap soon! It's still amazing to me that so many people have to go through this, and that I have to work so much just to cope for their utter incompetence in dealing with such a stupid bug!
[/RANT]

I have done the EDID override and it shows up as being overridden in the Device Manger. I'm just going to uninstall everything and then just start from scratch.

Perhaps send AMD a bill for services rendered...

At the end you can link this thread.

+1. Me too. Figure if they keep hearing the same issues from multiple people they'll be more inclined to fix them.

Glad to report that I finally got the 3rd option on PDVD9 and I get the nice "Blue" light ON. Thanks to all for your help on this thread. I have tried this with a TrueHD and a DTS-HD blu-ray disc. Now to start the mkv converting process.

Yes, I'm sure. HDMI setup: Lipsync on, audio amp and control off.

Don't hold your breath... It's been over 1 year and they still can't / won't fix it.

Even if they're too incompetent to figure out how to correctly parse EDID it wouldn't be that hard to add some check boxes for overriding the EDID the card read. Something like "Force True-HD", "Force DTS-MA", "Force 5.1", etc, etc...

If they added those boxes, people would be opening tickets because they checked them but their receiver (which cannot decode them) is not playing any sound.

You have to remember, HDMI Audio is not the bread and butter of ATI (or any other VIDEO card maker). Be happy a video card maker is even attempting it at all.

Maybe someone can help me out.
My video is stuttering randomly. I have tried all of the drivers (hotfix, 8.70RC2) and am using TMT .170 (it was happening with .161 too). I think it has something to do with PowerPlay, because when I watch a video the memory clock is very low, I tried the method here, but the video card is still underclocked.

The highest it will go is Core Clock: 775MHz and Memory Clock: 500 MHz (via GPU-Z), even though CCC is set to 775 and 1000 (the rated speeds of the card) Also CCC shows it at 775 and 900.

It seems that the memory clock is very low, as others say there's is at 900MHz during DXVA, mine wont go past 500, no matter what I put...
I think this is what is causing my stuttering issue.

Also, during video play back my CPU is at 0-3% usage and the memory is 1.25GB/4GB so this isn't causing the issue...

Please help

Thanks Tulli!

I was able to use the default lcd/Denon edid override for my Denon 3808 and my Mits HC6000 projector. I had TMT3 passing DTS Master, but Dolby True was silent. Now both work just fine, it's nice to see these show on the display of the Denon, as well as hear the sound quality.

ATI: Add message text, "Only check the boxes if you know what you're doing! Consult the help button."

Yea, have to agree. Audio is a whole new ball field for a Gfx company. So long as the Realtek driver keeps working I'm happy.

You're right! That worked! Thanks! In hindsight, No. 3 should have been plainly obvious. I had it set for 24/96.

Scott

Now I just have to fix the problem with my secondary LCD monitor disappearing and not being able to be reenabled after applying the EDID mod.
My 5670 running 8.69RC2 and Realtek 2.39 HDMI audio drivers with EDID override has an issue on Windows 7 x64. Everytime I exit Windows Media Center (after starting it and using it or not), I lose audio. My receiver (Denon 790) still shows the Multi Ch In input, but no audio is heard. To fix this, I have to Mute the Windows system audio, then unmute it.

Anyone?

Late reply but I've been busy: I agree with that. AnandTech just reported it and were right to do so. That's the point of their reviews

What did you do and fixed it again??? Did you uninstall all drivers?? In what order did you install them again and what SW version you loaded?

Thanks

Tuli, do you think it might be wise to open a new "Tuli's EDID patches for EDID problems" thread? It seems several of the ATI threads are being overwhelmed with basicly the same posts over and over... Just a thought.

I have installed everything again but still no 3rd option in Cyberlink and only Multi Channel Direct in Denon

I want to send a trouble ticket for 5570 and neither AMD or Sapphire include it in their list. It is like this product does not exist!! I just submitted one

The worst of all Sapphire do not have even drivers for HD 5570 only a page with the product info. Nothing at all!!! On the other hand AMD have a link for drivers of 55xx series which I assume should do the job for 5570

You will see the third option after playing the disc or iso.

Yes, makes sense.

Andy, what do you think? Should we move the EDID modding to a new thread?

Sure, I have no problem either way, if you wanna keep accepting requests for free

I will change the link in the first post if you do so.

Do I have any choice?

OK will do that right now. Really hope for personal sanity that ATI will fix the problem soon ...

Finally I managed to get TrueHD in MPC-HC, but no DTS MA. Still good though!

Only task now left is how can I configure XBMC Media Center to do bitstreaming or use at least MPC as player

Or even better, have a checkbox like the overclocking one, which you have to check in order for the other checkboxes to be active.

Are any of these issues/fixes related to the mis-mapping of side-to-rear speakers when 7.1 is set in Windows Audio when playing 5.1 material? not sure if it's doing it on True HD or DTS HD tracks, but I noticed it playing a few older DVDs via TMT3 - side channel surround was mapped to the rear channels in my 7.1 setup, even though the Windows Sound test tones are correct. Any other traditional source connected to my system plays correctly...

Thanks

I checked and the mis-mapping also occurs on True HD and DTS-MA material...is this a Windows issue or an ATI issue? This is a new level of annoyance...

Thanks...

I'd like to add two more issues:
1) When starting a 3D game, powerplay switches from 2D mode (157/300mhz) to 3D mode (950/1400 in my case), and that makes the game laggy. I noticed it's an issue with memory, from 300/1400 to 950/1400 there is no problem at all.
2) When using auto refresh rate change in MPC-HC, it resets graphics card so that the TV is disconnected first and re-connected, this causes MPC-HC crash (no screen found).

AFAIK and in my experience, when you start a 3D game, the clocks are always at their rated speed. Mine never goes down when playing, it stays at 850. How can you tell the lag is from Powerplay, what does it look like?

About the second one, I've tried that feature with various builds of MPC-HC and they're different. It's a new feature that is only available on the SVN as far as I know, and it's probably still buggy. Those aren't even the same as your regular public beta, they're being updated all the time. Better let the folks at doom9 know about it.
