Well I got a few hours in on friday and got pieces 1-8 in with braces and reflectors and havent been able to work on it since because of "priorities" , Now the superbowl, so Ill be out there for a few more hours tonight after the game to finish all the panels.. For those that didn't see my other threads I have some pretty crap arauco ( partially my fault for laying it on the ground )

So I'm going to just gonna finish up panels 9, 10 get the reflectors in , then let it set overnight with the clamps on it.. My question is , in the plans it says NOT to install the panel 5/10 braces, well im gonna pretend i didnt seee that cuz i must have them in there in order to get the panels straight.. SO ill just glue and clamp em, and leave them til tomorrow then throw the top on, err I mean the side

Testing the sub out room was a mess, PE flooded me, but it was a good thing.. Also gives the cat something to play with instead of bugging me

The fun begins

New PICS 2/8/10

Does this go here??

few more finishing up

Finished!!!!!!!

Room is a disaster, but thats not important now

not to bad, Weak tho, kinda gotta be careful how hard your clamping down.. Only broke one so far .. The 12" ones are great, so are the C clamps, Best $60 I could've spend on a job like this.

I have to use 2 of them to snug something down or get out my old school pipe clamps

Yea for the price you cant beat em.. I think I paid less than $5 for the 4 smaller than 16" and less than $8 for the 36 and 48" bar clamps ..

you think there is any issue or problem with adding the braces to panel 10 then putting it all together as opposed to putting the braces in later? Panel 10 is reeeeally hooked in the middle
post #7 of 107
Sure put them in now if thats what you have to do to get the hook out

looks really good, you are lucky you didn't get much warped arauco.
! Ahh man i cant believe noone noticed your mistake.

J/K lol. I know not funny but i had too, I couldnt resist. Looking good man. That panel 8 has a wicked bow just like mine did. You may have a heck of a time getting the final side on due to that. Hopefully you have some really strong clamps and it wont be an issue at all. Alot of us had some trouble with that final side so no big deal. Keep up the good work. I thought you were suppose to have this up and running YESTERDAY?
Yeah, final side can be a pain.......... just lay the final panel down and trace the final panel to get it perfect...

Hey guys quick question. I have a can of black primer for the mouth is it ok to spray it while the caulk is still wet?
I've painted over caulk before, not sure if you're supposed to or not....

You suckk,.. I didnt scroll down at first and I damn near **** myself

Everything looks good now, All 10 panels are on, ( ill update first post tomorrow.. I was to "buzzed" to do much tonight

Heres how I know Im am a dumbass..

I used my access panel as a reflector because I put it in my pile of scrap for some stupid reason

Clever, right?

another bad thing from the lumber is this.. I put a level across the top to see ifeverything was the same 23.5 and they all are except for panel 10 which for some reason sits about an 1/8th lowr than the other panels

I might just go buy another sheet tomorrow and make a new side piece to finish it off, cuz the one i have is warped and now twisted.. I swear if I had good wood and 1 full weekend i would be alot happier
post #17 of 107
Don't sweat it for an 1/8 th of an inch...and the access panel ... use a piece of cardboard as a template then use that to cut another piece of ply.Tape the cardboard on top of the access hole and with a sharp blade cut through it using the access hole as template.

just pl it and forget it

yeah... I broke a HF clamp... took it back a day later, they had me go grab another off the shelf and said that's it. No return paper work or anything. So go grab a replacement, just bring the original receipt so they can check it.
LOL i almost cut up the access panel myself. So i took it inside. It sure does look like a good piece to use. I think we could all alleviate this issue if just after cutting it we went ahead and installed the speaker terminal until waiting until the end. It would take 10 minutes and then you wouldnt run into this problem. Yea dont sweat an 1/8" the PL will easily fill that. If you put a few screws to it youll never know it was any different.

Just pull the bow out with a 2x2 guide board before attaching the second side. Simple, and IITP.

Yea for sure. This is one of those builds that would be 10x easier the second time around, knowing what to do and what NOT to do again

So is there actually a easy way to put the final piece on when its bowed and twisting? Im worried im gonna put it on and its so uneven that its just gonna smear or remove alot of caulk from the top of the panels

lots of clamps. pre-drill like the build docs say if you're using screws.

Easy to say when your build looks perfect

I have about 4 clamps that will fit so its gonna be all screws i think. which stinks but what do ya do I really wanna put the top piece on but something is telling me to wait til tomorrow to get another full piece

6-8 clamps makes it easier.=]

What I did was used a clamp on each corner to start with, then put 2-3 more clamps on a single side, and then nailed that side. Repeat 3 more times and you have all the sides done, then I clamped a 2x4 across the box where I had to nail to the inner pieces and did those.

If your build isn't totally square, just lay a big peice over it and trace it so you get it exactly right.

I second this.

But to pre drill the screw holes for the final side. Put the final side on and just put in 4 screws total so one at each corner. Flip it over and trace inside the access panel, through the driver hole, and in the mouth as far around as you can reach. That should leave you with only one panel that you have to measure and draw on or guess at. Bill reccomended this method to me and i used it with great success.

Yep, that's the exact process I followed for my second one.
