Here are some screenshots I took earlier today. Please note that my camera is just a Sony DSC-H50. While a nice camera, it is not a DSLR, AND I have never really took pictures of my screen before so I am not very up to par on the proper technique to make the picture represent exactly what is being displayed on the screen. With that said, these are not 100% accurate and I will note the major flaws that the camera shows compared to the actual image on the screen.

My first impressions after having time to actually get the image set up properly (horizonatal and vertical lens shift took a while to fine tune) and to watch different scenes from different movies, I would have to say that I am very impressed with this projector. I have only ever viewed the IN83 and the old SP7205, and comparatively, the SP8602 is superior, mainly in the black levels. I think the dynamic iris really helped. I curently have it set to auto.

Also, all colors you are seeing in the images below are out of the box color. I have not touched any setting on the projector other than the horizontal and vertical lens shift. I did turn the motion capture (i think thats what it is called) to off because otherwise it looks like you are watching a soap opera all the time, not really a movie. I ordered the Spears and Munsil bluray calibration disc and will post more pics afterwards. I really wanted to get some skin tone images but my camera battery died, so that will have to wait till later tonight.

Any questions feel free to ask.

On this image here (taken from the Dark Knight) the lights on the building appear to be a bluish green color. They actually show up as white/flourescent in the image from the projector. I can adjust my shutter speed so much, and obviously its not enough. But the blacks are pretty true in this picture.

This pic of the projector itself was taken by an iphone

Does anyone know if we will be seeing those in Europe? Somehow it seems Infocus is not "that present" over here and particularly in my country (Greece) I was told there is no representative at the moment. Anyone from Europe receiving one ?

They sell them in Sweden at least. Dealers are expecting them next week.

Good, then this is a sign they are not out of Europe so I might manage to get my hands on one should I decide to!

I currently own an IN83 but since I am going with a dual screen set-up (2.4 & 16:9) I want a PJ that has motorized focus and zoom like the new Infocus (or am I wrong?).

Something I wan to see first though is their frame interpolation implementation compared to Sony's and that of the new JVCs.

I can't wait to get some more information on this projector. It looks like it will be as bright or brighter than the IN83. Does anyone now if this projector uses the Darkchip 4 or Darkchip 3.

They don't specify one way or another, but I can't imagine them downgrading from the IN83's DC4

as far as brightness....check my first post. If I didn't mention it already, the brightness is plenty! It is rated lower than IN83 and likely does have a lower lumens output. My dad had an IN83 and comparatively, not a whole lot of difference. Although my comparison is based on a brand new bulb in the 8602 vs a used bulb in his IN83.

The DLP chip is the 0.65" DMD not the 0.95" as used in the IN83. According to Mark Peterson ( http://www.videovantage.com/?p=11 ), the 0.95" is sharper although that might be to do with the optics of the Optoma used in the article. Better optics may offset the size difference of the chip, if not, then it might be considered a downgrade to some. However, I am sure the black levels are better on the sp8602

what screen type and size are you using and any way to measure lumen output?

thanks.

thanks.

sorry, I do not have the instrumentation needed to measure light output. The setting on my projector isn't on the higesy output and it's still plenty bright, but I also have full lighting controls in my room.

Screen brand is Vutec. Model is the Vu-easy 123" 16:9. Material is the soundscreen material, which is acoustically transparent.

Luef the images in the screen captures don't look very sharp, Is it your camera, Not using a tripod, of lack of focus? Also was a Bluray or standard resolution?

Haha, yeah I know like I said I don't take alot of pictures therefor don't have alot of equipment...not even a tripod.

Despite what my pics show, the image is sharp (looks like the IN83 in comparison).

The movie is in bluray. Again my camera isn't even a DSLR...just a Sony dsc-h50. I can barely change the shutter speed or aperature, so yeah, not the best pics. The projector has a very sharp, clear, and bright. A very good unit and I wish my pics did it justice.

Keep posting and updating please!

What is your overall impression? How are the black levels? (hard to tell based on the photos posted - looks very mediocre based on the ones above, but I understand the camera limitations, and can easily believe that that is the issue)

Also curious about the questions raised in the post above ref noise/color wheel.

I know it's early and you haven't had much time, but do you think it's a worthwhile upgrade?

Glad to see a few screenshots - Thank You!!!!!!

How audible is the color wheel? Can you hear it over the fans? I've owned three infocus projectors(sp7210, IN78, IN82) and all of them had rather loud color wheels compared to some of the other dlp projectors I've owned.

Well, my projector is mounted outside of my room in a storage area. There is a 8" x 8" hole in my back wall where it shines through into the theater; so I notice no noise at all.

While I was back there messing with the mount, it didn't really seem overly loud nor did I notice anything that stood out to me as annoying.

I can for a fact say that it is 100% quiter than the sp7210...that thing was noisey. I'll try to give it a listen tomorrow to see how quiet it is, but I would say it shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone interested in this projector

I love the projector so far. It definately needs calibrated. I ordered a spears and mullins disc to aid in that. But yeah the pics suck and do not do justice. Sorry about the crap pics, but I know I am one of very few to get this projector right now so I wanted to give you guys something to see.

Black levels are better than the IN83 and the SP7200 series, but I cannot compare to anything else because I have never in person seen any other projector in action.

Don't forget that the pics you see above are out of the box settings and it could probably benefit from a calibration. I remember reading arts post of his pre-production model on projectorreviews.com. I feel pretty much the same about the black levels as he did.

Hi lulf21, could you post some more screenshots ? The IN83 make fantastic colours, what would you say about colours in compare with your SP8602 ?

I can answer this better after my spears and munsil cal disc comes in. Skin tones put of the box need a little work. I watched gamer last night and they were a little whiter than they should be.

But the colors seem pretty damn good even for out of the box.
