Post your new rookie setups and purchases here

I am a rookie in HT myself.
I just bought my first receiver and 3.0 speakers. They are too insignificant to post anywhere else.
So I decided we need thread where rookies liek us can post purchases as we slowly build our systems.
We may not know much about speakers but I guess we can share our joy and frustration.

Rules:

1. Recent setups and purchase only.
2. Post speaker details but no prices. We can PM each other if we want to know where an how to buy.
3. Pics would be great
4. Keep in friendly. It is not a competition.

I went with Onkyo 707.
I may not need all the power and features but I thought about the future.

For speakers I bought Klipsch B3 book shelf speakers and C3 center for a simple 3.0 setup.
B3s have great reviews and have decent bass handling.
C3 is a beast and has good bass as well.

My apartment is a mess. I need stands for all of them. C3 does not even fit in my TV stand. :-(
I cannot post pics until fix this messy setup.

I think I spent more on receiver and ran out of budget on speakers.
But I can always add speakers right?

I am looking to add sub first and then rear surrounds.

Withing the last 3 weeks I've moved from a HTIB that was 7 years old and into the following:

2 Klipsch XF48's
1 RC-64 center
4 RB-61 surrounds
4 RS-42 Reference
2 Epik Empire subs

All hooked into my 4 year old Panny 58 inch Plasma. My, oh my, what a difference!

Wow - that is really nice upgrade.
RC-64 must be a monster.
I never had enough budget to afford reference series.
But then I only have a apartment to fill with my Synergy series speakers.

I bought the Onkyo HT-S6100 and used it for almost a year while I saved up enough for a minor upgrade.

My setup now is:
1. Onkyo 667 receiver (original Onkyo HT receiver);
2. Klipsh RC-62 center (bought used from e-bay);
3. Bic Acoustech pl-89 fronts;
4. Bic pl-66 surrounds;
5. Bic Pl-200 sub;
6. Mirage Nanosat Prestige rears.

All are horn-loaded except the Mirages. Lovin' it.

Well, I am building a new house with a dedicated HT room, so I went a little overboard... Yes, the RC-64 is a monster! But, I've been hungry for great sound in my home for a lonnnggggg time.

i used to have a Samsung HTiB but upgraded to an Onkyo SR-805 and the BIC Acoustech PL-89 Mains, PL-28 Center, PL66 Surrounds, and 2 PL-200 subs. im sure theres better around but it works great for my room and budget.

the horn tweeters are not bright at all imo. the PL-89s dont really have much bass on thier own. all in all im happy with what i bought.

my dream system would have much more power and better speakers but thats how it goes.

I use to have a sony HTib speakers and a Sony receiver from ten years ago. I upgraded the receiver 3 years ago to the Onkyo 605. And last week I upgraded the front 3 to Paradigm Monitor 7's and Paradigm CC-290. Still using the sub and surrounds from the sony htib until I figure out what to replace them with. My tv is the Samsung UN55B8500 LED.

I plan to buy a Sony receiver.

So far, speaker wise, I've only purchased the Take Classics 5 pack (http://www.energy-speakers.com/na-en...pack-overview/).
(I guess I'll stick with what I have backordered, the BIC F12, for the sub to make a 5.1 system http://www.bicamerica.com/showpage.p...pe=8&spkrID=84).
.
Today I found out I'm only 45 minutes from this place http://www.parts-express.com/locations.cfm.
So, later on down the road for myself, I think I would like to try making a DIY type of speaker set from them. Something like this http://www.parts-express.com/project...fm?project=Dht. and then this http://www.parts-express.com/project...?project=Drake
.
And then maybe a pair of bookshelfs like this seem like they could be really nice...http://www.parts-express.com/project...project=USHERs. But that's probably a whiles away.

Onkyo NR-1007
2 Klipsch RF-63s
1 Klipsch RC-64
1 Klipsch RPW-10 (got it real cheap)

Finally decided I needed a better entertainment center for my apartment so I got a 50" plasma. Once that happened some speakers were necessary. Probably went a little overboard but wanted something that would last and I don't have room for the surrounds right now. The sub is pretty weak but manages for the time being. The RF-63/RC-64 front stage is an absolute wall of sound. The 64 is definitely a monster. I had my plasma sitting on it for a while before I got it mounted to the wall. Almost as large as the floor standers.

I'm currently still running a 10+ year old Kenwood VR 309 - 5.1 HTiB with a Mitsubishi WS-55411 Rear projection TV.

Both are still running great but with the changes with technology and newer consoles and blu-ray players and such I am needing to upgrade my HT.

Just recently purchased a Denon 1910 Receiver. So now i'm working on deciding on what speakers to purchase. What a painful task! All the reading and finding the best sound for your buck. hehe

Ditto on the console! I'm currently trying to learn about speakers and I'm hoping to get a system setup soon. I think my girlfriend's excited about it as our TV is currently on a low table, and she really wants a nice tv console like that one.

My new setup includes:

Paradigm Monitor 11 Fronts (new version 6)

New Monster Surge Protector
12 Gauge Monster Speaker Wire

Used to have an old LG Home Theater in a Box for 4-5 years!! What a damn improvement and I dont know why I waited so long....I was considering the Klipsch RF-82 5.1 system but got a great great deal on the Paradigm Monitor 11 5.1 system I could not refuse!!!!!!! It was a steal! lol
My Paradigm shakes the house and I am glad I went with Paradigm instead of Klipsch!!

My set-up during high school and college (at home; my very first set-up):
Monitor: a 20” mono Mitsubishi TV
Source: A Magnavox CD player
Receiver: A Scott receiver
Speakers: this was truly awesome – two 6x9” car stereo speakers, one Yamaha speaker with an 8” woofer, and one MTX speaker with a 10” woofer, all spliced together into a receiver with only two channels. Hell yes!

My set-up during college (dorm-room):
Monitor: A 13” color Sylvania TV
Source: A Mitsubishi mono VCR
Reciever: A hand-me-down Sansui from my parents
Speakers: Two $60 Yamaha speakers with paper-based woofers which were in horrible shape
Gaming System: A Super Nintendo and a Sega Genesis

First “real” set-up (roughly ten years ago after getting a part-time job working at a high-end electronics store):
Fronts: Paradigm Monitor 3's
Center: Paradigm CC-170
Rears: Def Tech BP1X
Sub: M&K V75
Monitor: A 27" Sony Wega CRT
DVD player: A Sony S530
Receiver: A Sony STRDA-333ES
Surge: Monster Power MPHTS-5000
Gaming System: Sega Dreamcast (booya!)

Current System (upstairs):
Speakers: M&K S150THX system paired with an M&K MX-350 subwoofer (Sub Dude on order from Auralex)
Monitor: A 50” Panasonic 1080p plasma wall mounted; includes a remote control backlight with 6500k lighting
Sources: Digital cable for HD; Denon SACD/DVD-Audio player; wireless streaming from PC
Gaming System: PS3 Slim (for blu-ray too)
Receiver: Denon AVR-2809ci (considering adding an Emotiva amp due to the inefficiency of the M&Ks)
Surge: Monster Power MPHTS-5000
Remote: Logitech Harmony One

Secondary System (downstairs):
Speakers: Klipsch Quintet system paired with a 12” Klipsch sub
Monitor: A 42” 720p Panasonic 600U plasma
Sources: Digital cable for HD, wireless streaming from PC
Gaming Systems: Xbox 360 and PS3 (for blu-ray too)
Receiver: Denon AVR-1610ci
Surge: low-end Monster power strip
Remote: Logitech Harmony One

I just got an Onkyo 607 it's sitting on my coffee table waiting for my 5.1 speakers being delivered Monday.

I got the Level 2 system from Home Theater Direct with in wall speakers for surrounds.

Center
Front Towers
Sub
In Wall surround L/R

Monday can't come soon enough... I'll just think of it as my reward for surviving V-Day

This past summer I bought my first HT system.

Always wanted one when I was younger and couldnt afford it. Did some looking around and almost bought a cheapo HTIB from BB. But as usual i ended up bumping myself up a few levels.

Ended up settling on
Klipsch:

RF-63 mains
RC-64 center
RS-52 surrounds
Klipsch xw500d sub
Denon 3310 avr.

Wont say price, but I will say, that knowing what employee cost/mark up was on HT equipment from my stint as a Circuit City employee 10 years ago was, that was the price I was shooting for. Found an authorized dealer that runs a special from time to time that lets you submit an offer on their site, and got the price I wanted.

Now I need to upgrade my stand and my TV. That 40in toshiba LCD was great until my new speakers made it look so small lol. I will say that the stand is great for putting the center at almost perfect ear height position.
omg that center is huge lol

I dont have pics but my first setup consisted of a pair of tsi100 bookshelfs (about 1 year ago) Then I went to a pair of deftech promonitor 1000's and and procenter 1000 and a JBL ES250 sub(3 months after the polk bookshelves)

I am keeping the sub for now and just purchased a pair of monitor audio rx-6 towers. No center for now as I could not afford it since they are so damn pricey lol as you can see I blew too much money on stuff I wanted to change shortly after but I think that I will be sticking with the MA's for a while I just need to add a center and surrounds if I don't just use the deftechs as surrounds instead.

The deftechs are definitely excellent speakers and great for the size, but there is a HUGE difference between those and some nice towers like the rx6's that I am upgrading to. I mean the sound they produce is incredible and I mainly wanted something for music so not having a center is not a huge deal for the time being. I do love blu-rays tho so the center won't be too far away of a purchase hehe

Heres a nice pic of the rx6's man they are sexy

I'm trying to put my first system together right now. Was thinking of the following:

Polk 70s for the right and left
Polk 40s for the surround
Polk 10 or 20 for the center
Onkyo 607 receiver
sub - undecided

What do you think? Would love to get Klipsch but probably out of my price range.

My only input is that for the center I would just get the CS1 or CS2, not the 10 or 20 because they are more money just for a new cabinet design. Also, the Monitor 40's are considerably larger than the 30's and are not wall mountable. I personally don't think you can much with the 40's over the 30's for surrounds since you don't get much out of them to begin with.
