VIZIO INTERNET APPS (VIA) Enabled LCD's Thread - Page 5

I wasn't sure on the forced update, but I know that they can look your serial # up once you give it to them and they can verify that your TV is talking to the server. If it's failing for some reason after talking to their server they should be able to see that also. The problem that I think some of us are running into with their 1st level support is that this VIA technology is new to them also from a troubleshooting standpoint and that adds to the frustration of the consumer. Are you using wired or wireless? Are you plugged into any kind of a power center/surge protector?

I was told by the tech that even he had a VIA and couldn't get an update. He said they told him a week, but they had been saying that for about a month now. He did tell me that yes, an update was coming, and yes, some people have Pandora & Facebook, while others don't, but there was absolutely nothing he could do.

Needless to say, I didn't get a warm fuzzy. Its a shame, really. I just want what was advertised. Thank God the tv works great so far other than that.

Yes I am plugged into a surge protector, but will plug the tv directly into the wall outlet tonight.
Last night while I was watching it, it suddenly turned itself off, the Vizio symbol started blinking for a couple mins then it came back on again on it own. After that, the tv continued to work normally but was exactly the same with no update to the widgets or the firmware. Thanks for all the help!

Just so we're all on the same sheet of music...
I've asked for help, and have been receiving it from a few folks (Thank You!!), and I keep getting the same questions (not just this forum, others too), so here's the deal:
Everyone is telling me to ensure certain conditions are true:
1. tv is plugged in
2. wireless is working
3. tv was turned off with tv remote
4. tv is turned off, left plugged in & left off overnight (does anyone unplug their tv on a regular occasion?)
5. tv is plugged directly into wall, without the surge protector (I did this tonight, so I'll see if it makes a difference tomorrow)

All of the above are true in my case.

Here's my history with this tv:
- Bought it about 2.5 weeks ago.
- No problem setting it up, exactly as directions said.
- Picture and sound are great!
- No issues with my wii, or my laptop...never have been.
- Bluetooth works fine.
- Installed widgets work fine. (I've purposely tried out everything just to check)
- I've watched movies on Netflix with no issues other than a split second of pixelation.
- I have registered both online, and over the phone with tech support

Model # SV422XVT
Firmware version:
VIZIO_B1.20.4_rc1
FRC Version: 01.01.00051 (don't even know what that is, but it looked important)

I called the Tech Support number and was told that no, they could not do a "forced update", and subsequently transferred to some other Tech dept. The rep I spoke to told me he had a VIA and even his firmware version was something like 1.10.4...(or whatever - out of date)
He told me that even as an employee, he was told "a week" over and over again. He said they understand some folks have different widgets than others (namely, Pandora & Facebook). He said there was absolutely nothing they could do and I'd just have to wait.
He didn't offer to check if my tv was communicating properly, and I didn't ask because I started the conversation with, "I think my tv may not be communicating properly with your server...can you check it?" and assumed he did before giving me the bad news. (yes, x, you told me so...lol)

I got a message from some guy today who told me he bought his on Saturday, and got his update which included Pandora & Facebook this morning when he turned it on. I've been told most everyone else has Firmware version 1.3XXX, and that all three (the 42", 47" & 55") have the same firmware versions. Not sure if that's true, but other 42" owners and I should have, at least.

At this point, I've pretty much given up.
I've tried one last thing, which is the "plugging directly into the wall thing", and we'll see what happens tomorrow. To be honest, I'm really not that worried about it anymore. I paid a pretty cheap price and got a fantastic HDTV which works very well.

I get the impression that because this is a new technology, the company is trying its best to get everyone updated and maybe is having some struggles.
I'm fine with that. I think I'll hold off being angry, as long as I know that EVENTUALLY I'll get the widgets, the USB capability, and all the other stuff that was advertised.

I'm going to give it some more time and see what happens.
I really appreciate everyone's help...what did I ever do before there was the internet?

Not that it helps, but I bought my 422 Monday night. Tuesday morning I had Pandora and Facebook. The update apparantely fixed some video stuttering I was also seeing.

I'm on a wireless connection.

Has anyone heard anything regarding our VIA VIP Rewards?
Has anyone attempted to sync the BT remote to an HTPC, or anything else? Would be interested in your results.

In case anyone's curious I did some input lag testing on my SV472XVT and found that the it has 3-4 frames (about 50-65ms) of input lag when using VGA, HDMI, or composite input (it's almost unplayable using the analog red/white/yellow input though). Interestingly the advanced image processing features (smooth motion, noise reduction, etc, etc) don't seem to affect this *at all*, so you can just adjust for the best picture quality and not worry about sacrificing image quality to get lower input lag.

I have more details at the original thread I created for this: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1233747

I haven't yet. We're suppose to hear details this week, though.

interesting. That probably mean it's the buffer of the frames that cause input lag, not the motion interpolation processing...

Well there's no game mode option so it could be that the TV is just stuck at 120hz with no way to drop to 60hz in order to get to the bare bones input lag for the panel. I've heard that these TVs are supposed to be decent quality IPS panels, so the theoretical floor for the input lag should be very low. The bottleneck's gotta be something other than the panel itself or the image processing.

I tried and failed to link the BT Remote to my HTPC. After thinking about it , I decided it wasn't a big deal because I would need a mouse anyway.

I am using a Gyration Air Mouse and set the option in its software that brings up an onscreen keyboard. Works great for the small amount I need it.

I posted this in the other thread when I played around with the remote on my PC.

Though when it was connected Windows did find it as a HID keyboard/input device. The keyboard worked as it should and the volume controlled the volume in Windows. I hope vizio adds a PC as a usable device on the list ideally I would prefer it to find the PC versus the PC finding the remote. This would allow the TV to pass button input to the PC and not break the connection between the TV and remote.

I kinda figured we would have heard something from them by now.... surveys always came out mid week so I assumed the reward email would have came out the same time this week.....................

I thought the same thing. I just looked at the last email confirmation I got:
"Please stay tuned in the upcoming week for information regarding your free gifts." Maybe they meant upcoming weeks.

Just got my reward email. Says 2-4 weeks for delivery of the goodies

Congrats to all who got to participate in the VIA VIP program.

My confirmation of completion of the VIP program included the below invitation to be included in future testing. I'm not posting this to boast in any way, I'm just curious if we all got the same email. So excited to see what is to come.

As a special thank you, we have placed your order for the VSB210WS Sound Bar with Wireless Subwoofer and VBR110 VIZIO Blu-ray® high definition disc player and you can expect to receive your gifts within two to four weeks.

It's unfortunate that you couldn't get it fixed, but glad Vizio is replacing it for you.

For those of you who are getting the sound bar and do not have their TVs mounted, where do you plan to place the sound bar? The only room I have right now is to have it right in front of the TV, and that may not look that great. Any suggestions as to where I can put it are appreciated!
I found this online, where it's mounted on top. One of the other pics shows what it looks like from the front. Not sure what those brackets cost, but worth a look if you don't have many options.

Has anybody heard anything about a MLB TV widget? Roku offers it as well as many of the same offered on Vizio now...like Netflix and Pandora. It seems like a natural addition.

Is there a way to track our packages from the VIP program , I need to know what day to start looking for the items .

The Vizio fan group on Facebook posted a question recently about what sort of apps people would like to see. Hopefully they'll be taking everyone's suggesions. (I want that Hulu app!)

I saw they started adding games to the apps. I seriously doubt they offer a Hulu app. Hulu has expressed a desire to block the use of their service on televisions. I tried to build a Hulu widget based on the Hulu desktop but after a few minutes of playing something on the URL for the desktop it stops.

A YouTube widget sure would be nice. Any reason YouTube would not allow it? Maybe Yahoo doesn't want it? I ask because that just seems like it would have been one of the most used widgets by many people.

The YouTube one may be problematic because Google owns them. Rumors are that Hulu will soon have a "pay model", but who knows. Nevertheless, I asked Vizio for both YouTube and Hulu apps.
