VIZIO INTERNET APPS (VIA) Enabled LCD's Thread - Page 9

Today my Vizio went bonkers. After trying to playing something on my ps3 the set decided to turn itself off. So I tried tuning it on and it tuned it self off. So then the vizio led started flashing and wouldn't turn let me turn it on for a minute. I turned off the ps3 and tried to play TV and the dang thing turned itself off again. So I turned it on and tried playing the via apps and the tv tried to install all the widgets over again and before it was done it turned itself off. So after removing physically the power cable and doing a hard boot on the TV I can get it to work again. Boy oh boy don't you just love Computerized TV they crash just like windows.

I have noticed both times the TV wants to install a firmware update it just shuts itself off automatically. The manual gave the impression it will only perform the update after the user shuts off the set.

My glitch of turning off had nothing to do with the system updating I have had the latest firmware for some time. I'm pretty sure I bought a lemon and I really wish I could go back to the vf551 but it seems that the vf552 is the only 55" LED around anymore. I hope Vizio gets off their a** and fixes some of the problems in this set.

Problems Noticed so far:

Via apps unstable
- Lots of the Apps have freezing issue but this should be fixed as further updates to the programs arrive.
System freezing- (See Above) This happened when changing input from TV to HDMI and then the picture mode changed from 1080P to 720P. My TV froze and lost all its VIA program settings (e.g It Crashed).
Audio or picture loss with antenna HD: Antenna TV much more unstable than VF551 almost unusable in low signal strength days. A killer for those of us who don't subscribe to cable or satellite.
Slow channel change-Annoying but I could live with it if the TV functioned properly.
Useless way too small keyboard- Limits the ability of this set to be used as a truly internet capable device. It is easier to use the arrow key and select the character than to use the keyboard with my large hands.
Lip Sync- The initial problem I had with the set. The lips aren't synced with any of the inputs: TV, PS3/Bluray, Xbox 360 and the adjustment doesn't fix it or allow lip sync settings to be stored. Everything really does look like it is a bad Kung Fu movie, a death knoll for this set. This problem really needs to be fixed.

my apologies if this isnt the forum/thread I need to post this question in:

I own a 551 with no VIA. I was wondering if one of their new Blu-ray players that come with VIA has the same apps available as the 552? If so, Is there a complete list of apps anywhere I can review before I go out to buy one?

Check the vizio web site. When you click on the item you want to look at it has all the info you are looking for. I think they also have a link to the available apps. Also whne you click on the item such as dvd player it will have sub menus which include reviews. Google the model number you seek and their you will also find helpfull reviews.

Has anyone been able to get/pass thru a 5.1 signal from the Amazon or Vudu widget on a SV472XVT? Vizio keeps giving me the runaround.

I have confirmed that I can passthru 5.1 Dolby Digital from HDMI.
I've been checking those at least once every week and they STILL aren't working- I'd be extremely annoyed if I'd spent a great deal extra for those features. Netflix is still in friggin' MONO as well- only reason why I even have it is because I'm using my mom's membership to get it- she subscribes just for the discs and doesn't use the streaming, so she activated it on my TV. I'd pay for a service that gives you unlimited viewing like Netflix, but in better quality.

And what's the deal with that other "Video On Demand" app that keeps saying "Coming Soon! This App will update automatically." How soon is soon???

Don't get it on the 552 as well.

It has been "coming soon" for at least 4 months. Suspect that is a permanent statement. I have not seen much improvement in the 552 in about 3 months. The TV still reboots occasionally when I turn it on, but I see only small changes or don't notice any changes. The updates are all minor VIA firmware and no TV firmware (last Feb24). The local Costco has started advertising the USB ports, even though they are not functional and may never be.

Again, someone out there needs to figure out how to custom-program the firmware on this thing and get it to do whatever you want it to

Anyone else having a problem on the NetFlix app where the video will warp out of whack for 15-30 seconds or until the show is restarted?

None of these issues occur when I stream from Netflix with my PS3, which is now standard practice for me. The quality issue has nothing to do with my internet connection, which is consistently 15 Mbps.

I'm somewhat surprised that there have been no major firmware updates in months. It is still a great television (I have the 552) but the VIAs are not as impressive in reality as the hype.

I haven't noticed the Mono Netflix thing but then again my audio system is very subpar and I probably just haven't noticed. I have been having the Neflix restart issue, when I'm watching, selecting or just pausing neflix. The TV and netflix will pause then the TV will just turn itself off and start to flash the vizio logo. It less minor than the previous crashing I was having with the 552 since it lets me start up the TV once the flashing stops, usually around 5-6 seconds.

Overall I really like having the netflix running on the TV since I don't have to fire up the PS3 or xbox to get netflix, but the problems with the VIA apps are just over whelming in my opinion. It seems that Vizio rushed this TV to market before getting all the bugs out and now they are focusing on the next model TVs rather than getting the 552 series right. I haven't decided if I am just going to get a 551 and try to be happy, or try another manufacture entirely, and I was one of Vizio's biggest Fanboys but, YOU LOST ME VIZIO.

The previous post has hit it on the head. Posted this on an other thread but may be of some interest here too:

After much agonizing, for over 2 month, I took my set back to Costco. There has been no FW update to activate the USB ports nor to correct the video setting problems created by the Feb. 24 FW update.
VIZIO had over 90 days to fix these problems that their February FW update created. Looks like all their attention is towards new sets coming out.
Possibly because so few owners are aware of the problem. Just did not want to take a chance of getting stuck.Had to pay a moving company to haul it back.

What makes me so mad is the great PQ of the 552, now back to the old 42" Sceptre and missing the 552.
I will not hesitate to buy an other VIZIO but ONLY AFTER I READ HERE THAT ALL FEATURES ARE WORKING !!! And I will not be an early adopter again as I was with the 552.

And as pointed out by others on this thread, it would be nice to refuse FW updates (if it works don't fix it) or be able to install previous versions. I have that choice with my ROKU, WD-TV and Sony Blu-Ray player, not to mention my computers. The 552 was of course to make the first two devices unnecessary. With VIZIO you get an FW update whether you want to or not!

Eugene

PS the Netflix worked fine, surprisingly good video in HD mode, no real audio issues, I have FIOS 20Mbitt both ways.

I replaced my parents newly-dead Panasonic plasma with a Vizio 552 from Costco today. It's great in every way, but the sound (IMO) is terrible. Eventually I'll help my dad get a soundbar/subwoofer setup, but for now I just want to get it sounding pretty good for built-in speakers.

I turned off TruSurround (those settings have never worked on any TV for me) and I played with TruVolume back and forth. I don't have any real experience with EQs (only standard presets on radios/iTunes/etc.) so I've been trying to monkey with it but I don't know what I'm doing.

Thought I'd see if anyone would share their all-purpose TV EQ settings? The problem mostly seems to be that it's, uh, middy.

What I left them with tonight, that doesn't sound quite as bad as it did straight out of the box:
100Hz - 8
300Hz - -8
1KHz - -4
3KHz - 0
10KHz - 4

Picked up the 22" set for the bedroom over the weekend. Was wondering if everyone else has noticed if you set the sleep timer and watch a Netflix movie, it wont put the TV to sleep?

I usually watch some documentaries and such to put me to sleep, but it appears to break the sleep timer on the TV.

The sleep timer should override anything and everything that is going on with the TV.

Just got the 47" model and noticed something the night I set it up.

After I turned it off I noticed a screen smudge and used the cleaning cloth to wipe it off. When I did this, the LCD panel visibly moved back into the set...maybe 1/8 to 1/4 inch at the corner.
Went around the edges of the panel, lightly pressing in and on both sides, the panel can be pushed back visibly.

Anyone else notice this? It's like the panel is not fixed in place behind the bezel. The unit works perfectly, so there is no functional problem, just seemed strange that there would be so much movement. My older 37" Vizio has very slight movement of the panel when pressed, but nowhere near this much.

Just got a Vizio 552 and was soon very disappointed to hear all Netflix broadcasts in mono. Has anyone had any luck with Vizio tech support? I got a clueless wonder when I called. Would love to have an ETA on fixing this. Maybe I should just take it back and get one of the other Vizio 55s while a few are left out there.

Just noticed the new My-Cast widget. This is the weather app that I've been dreaming about! Animated weather maps! Detailed forcasts! And you get a nice bar selection! Whoever made this put some time and effort in and actually uses the VIA on their own TVs.

HUGE thumbs up! I removed the original weather widget in favor of this one.

ONE thing I'd like to see added to this, is a full screen animated weather map option.

I installed it and now the Widget Gallery icon has been replaced by an icon that changes: looks like a NBA Game Time widget for awhile, then My-Cast, then Facebook, then Pandora widget, etc. Looks like they are going to make us play guess which icon is currently the gallery.

Yes, it looks nice, but I haven't been able to add more than one city. I liked that the Yahoo Weather widget has the option to add multiple cities and scroll thru them quickly.

Note that the gallery widget, the weather widget, and probably others allow you to scroll the icons in the VIA Widget bar. Press the up/down arrow on the remote when you see the little ^ graphic on the icon and it will scroll through the icons (if there are more than one). It looks like they are using this technique with the Widget Gallery icon to announce new widgets, I suspect this is a sponsored thing.
Thanks user4avsforum, that fixed my problem...I got the Widget Gallery icon back.
I noticed my widgets selection app updated itself today and asked me to turn my TV off and back on before it would show me the list of apps.
It just updated the app but I am pretty sure the list was the same before and after. There may have been two new games but nothing important.
They added a "Fruit Splat" game on Friday. Kinda fun, but has no sound.
just curious, but the 3xvt series vizios are supposed to start releasing on july 1st (at least according to amazon, who has them up for pre-order already), and i was wondering if anyone has seen them yet in costco? haven't been to one in a while, and i know they sometimes get stock in early.
I really wish some decent apps would be released, what's on there now just feels so worthless.
I have the mediabox app on my "Vizio VF552XVT" but, wanted to know where to go to create account...i try to use my Picasa login, passwd...does not work...

Is the Hulu or Hulu Plus app coming to this?

It appears to be available on every major device at this point.

Looks like some future Vizio models may someday have Hulu... though not free:
