is your app platform still yahoo-based, or did it get replaced with a google-based platform?

553 and 554 are v1.3.27

according to vizio support:

* an update has been released in limited doses
* there is no way to force your set to update
* the updates are rolling out in serial number order
* all sets should have the update within the next 2 weeks

for comparison's sake, would anyone who has been updated care to share their serial? i'd iike to see if i'm in the same ballpark as you.

thanks

Just recieved the update this morning. Ser. #LAPPGLA

They've added Skype! But it appears only the Vizio branded camera will work.

Availble at Vizio.com/tvchat.

AAAHHHHHHH!!!! The ghosting/ mini blinds issue is now back on my 552 with the newest update. I would preferred to have kept mine disconnected and just used the PS3 if I knew this crud would return. Looks like I'm going to have to call vizio on this issue yet again. I was so happy with this TV (3rd one) too.

Please forgive if this is a stupid question, but how will I know when my 553 is updated and has youtube? Do the updates allways happen while watching something, or does the TV sometimes update while it's turned off?

Also, I find it cumbersome to find widgets/apps? Is there an easy way to search for a widget, other than scroll through screen after screen of various (mostly TV stations, it appears) widgets?

i believe it can happen in either scenario, honestly - the widget menu, at least, will give you an alert that tells you it updated itself. it will be skinned with youtube or skype graphics, presumably.

while not perfect, there is categories sort that trims down the list between apps you may actually want, and all those local news widgets for stations youve never heard of.

When my Vizio 552 was updated the app bar (or whatever you call the list of apps on the bottom of the screen) was reset. Youtube and Skype were there along with apps like Blockbuster that I had never installed. And many of the apps that I did install were gone... I had to download them again.

Well, Vizio delivered the replacement set today and now I'm back to the original FW and apps. I wonder how long it will take to update.

But, I don't mind just as long as I got a good set!

You guys all seem to have XVT series sets. I am on an E series E3D470VX. Am I to assume that my apps will be updated as well? I already felt that the VIA platform and selection was the best I've experienced so far, and now adding YouTube should make it even better. Can't wait.

I haven't seen anybody here that has this tv and was wondering if anybody else has one? I can't seem to find the skype app, but I've only had this tv for 2 days and love it. Anyone have any settings advice? great forum.

This morning when I turned it on it was updating to the August FW. I watched the set for a while and then shut it off and went out for about an hour. When I returned and turned it back on it was updating to the latest FW. After the update I turned it on and selected the Via and it was installing all the latest widgets.

That was fast. I was expecting to have to wait a while for the updates but I'm back in business.

my long national nightmare is over...my 553 updated yesterday, serial #GLPP37ALxxxxx.

skype and youtube automagically appear on the app bar, no installation necessary. skype works as a text chat right out of the box, and ive ordered the camera/mic, so i'll report back on its quality.

youtube is mostly fantastic - the automatic selection of the highest hd video is fab, and the quality is amazing, but the inability to search, a la amazon, right from the app while still watching a broadcast would have been a nice touch, as well as the ability to sort found videos. still, its availability is very much appreciated from this user and family.

was hoping to find 'video' now as an option in the media app, but the fact that vizio is still updating this set gives me hope that it will perhaps come in a future update.

anyone know why Rovi or yahoo pulled the TV guide app?
i received my vizio camera today - small but solid device, sits atop my 55" set perfectly fine, and connects to an available usb port. no configuration necessary, the skype app sees that the camera is connected and allows you to make video calls to anyone on your contact list. you can display video in either a picture beside picture mode or full screen, with a small preview window for your local video in the top left corner. picture quality is quite nice and audio is as well, but the real nice feature is you can sign in and then close the skype app, and an unobtrusive popup will appear on screen which allows you to accept or decline a received call, or even set yourself in do not disturb mode.

the camera is twice as expensive as it needs to be, but i'm pleased with the capabilities i now have.

Has anybody else who has received the update have any issues with the Hulu App? I tried toying around with it tonight, but essentially the Hulu App refused to play any of the videos I selected and it only displays the most recent featured videos...I no longer have options at the bottom to navigate the different categories...

Wow, Vizio is sure pushing the updates out. Two updates in the past two weeks. It appears VIA apps now have their own separate volume controls, which is REALLY annoying. So if i'm watching TV at normal volume, and I go into my Netflix app, and I turn the volume down because I'm getting sleepy, and then if I'm half awake/asleep and someone exits the Netflix, the TV is suddenly full volume again.

It's really really really REALLY annoying. They need to make volume global through all apps and the TV.

Also, when switching HDMI inputs, the volume goes to FULL BLAST for a tenth of a second before it goes back. So switching inputs on video sources makes you poop your pants.

Seems like they need to fix a lot of stuff now.

I wish Netflix would have a way to clear the bar off the screen when you pause a movie. It's so annoying.

>>anyone know why Rovi or yahoo pulled the TV guide app?<<

That sucked. It is one of the few apps I routinely used! Unless I am missing something, there hasn't been any equivalent replacement pop up on the app list. The data is available because you can get it for one station at a time by pressing the info button a few times. That isn't the same/as convenient as the TV guide apps where you saw many channels at once.

Has anyone noticed that the YouTube app doesn't give you as many search results compared to when you do the same search on a PC? I am just glad to finally have an app but it does mean you have to be more specific with your search terms so that you are eliminating useless results that might cut the list off.

Yes, I have a had time findin the videos I want, even the ones I uploaded.
That happened to me as well, but using youtube a couple days later seemed to fix that, now everything shows up just as it does on my pc's/laptop. Now the app on the 360 is another story, it still won't show me everything available

It probably limits the results to only those videos allowed on TV devices (similar to the mobile device limitations).
Sorry if I missed this in the thread already, but what resolution does Netflix stream at from VIA? Is there any plans for 1080P streaming from the Netflix App?
A number of devices reportedly decode Netflix 5.1 DD+. My 553 does not. VUDU yes but Netflix only analog audio. Am I doing something wrong or doesn't the Netflix app handle DD+.
As far as I know Netflix does not do 5.1 on the Vizio, only on certain other devices
post #715 of 755
Wonder if they're ever going to fix that? Seems like very few devices support 5.1 on Netflix right now.
I've just gotten a new E3d42 set and have a few questions on the apps.

If I connect my receiver to the digital audio out on this set will I get DD 5.1 from anything but the tuner? Will it pass DD 5.1 from an HDMI input, such as my DVR or Plex?

What's the top resolution for the Netflix app? Does it do HD streams?

Thanks for reading.

Just wondering if this is the latest software updates. I was hoping for some type of WEB browser and/or way to embed an Internet Link into the player.

The YouTube App is excellent and I have connected it to "MyChannel" that I update w/ my different PC's, tablets & smart phones. Maybe I can trick the YouTube channel to play a Weblink and/or bookmark. I wanted to stream the "live" Master Golf and "live" ESPN3 channel.

Don't subscribe to cable so any and all internet "live" stream are what i now use. I especially want to stream Bloomberg TV.

I do use the Radio Apps (Heart Radio & Tune-In) to stream Bloomberg Radio and other Radio programs.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

We are the proud owners of a new Vizio M370SL (from Costco) and an old Linksys WRT54GX router.

The TV will readily connect to the WRT54GX without security settings on, but if we enable WEP security it won't connect.

With security enabled, we have tried both automatic connection and manually entering the configuration it showed while connected without security (IP DNS settings etc). Also tried resetting WRT54GX by unplugging it. And using both the passphrase and the generated key. It simply won't connect.

Other devices (phone, netbook and laptops) readily connect to the WRT54GX with the security code.

What could we be doing wrong?
I bought the same tv, the Vizio M370SL and had the exact same problem with connecting to the internet only I have a Verizon Actiontec modem. Fortunately, JConXtsy in post #519 repeated what the Vizio tech told him:

1. You need to use WPA not WEP or WPA2
2. You need to set a password that is all letters or all numbers and 10 characters or less.

I logged into the modem and changed the security settings to conform with the above and presto, the Vizio connected. I had to change all of my other devices to have the new security settings but after wasting an entire evening all is well. It just goes to show you, check with the experts here first.
