It certainly would have been interesting to see what Pioneer's reaction to this would have been if this rather simple and relatively low cost board swap was first discovered soon after the 9G sets were first released.

Pioneer got a lot of bad press when the 5020/6020 series came out regarding their lack of adjustments. That was probably not wise on their part. They sort of pissed off the calibration and hard core video community who were their core buyers and fanboys. Had this info come out sooner I imagine Elite sales would have suffered.

Anyone notice if their hardware version # changed after the modification?

I will try to make a note of mine before and after I swap the boards. Mine is shipping today...will probably get it Friday or Monday. Then I have to get a helper and the courage to do it! Can you take the back off the tv while it is vertical on its stand or is it better to lay it face down to remove the back? Right now it is hanging on the wall, so it's hard to figure out what to do.

I found it better to lay it face down on the ground. The back panel gives the whole tv extra support. With it off it becomes flimsy.

alan you must lay the tv flat i laid mine on a big table it makes it more stable so you dont have to worry about cracking the screen.your new board will have a place to plug a color sensor in. what i did was took some white grease put a small amount on the new outlet for the color sensor set the cover on it and the grease made a perfect spot on the cover and i drilled it out took about 2 hours

That is not good news! I never dreamed we'd have to make a new hole on the back panel. Any other options to deal with that issue?

you can trim the new port down. It is made of soft plastic and is easy to cut.

Just a sharp knife. Xacto blade would probably work good. A cutting disk on a dremel tool would also work.
its not the main cover its a small cover that goes over your new board.the hole is about the size off a pencil.and if you drill the hole in the right place it looks like it belong there anyway think about it if it was a 151 the hole would be in the same place

I'm an EE that designs computers and I have a 1353 on the way. I'll do my best to figure out what the difference is between the 1353 and 1352 before I put one of them back in. Should have my board this weekend.

Great Idea, Maybe we can just modify the 1352 instead of having to buy a new board.

If this would have been found out soon after the release on the 9g Kuro's, no doubt the Elite sales on 111's & 151's would have suffered. A lot of people would have bought the lower cost 5020's and 6020's and then threw in a $120 board to get the adjustments of a Elite, while still saving a bundle of money over buying a Elite. And I'd bet Pioneer would have reacted by all of a sudden making boards almost impossible to get other than through any warranty needs for them, by creating a not in stock/back ordered situation on the general sale of the boards. Anyway, it's doubtful Pioneer cares at all about it now anyway, and it's certainly going to make them a few $$$ now selling replacement boards. And by the response of this thread so far, it's sure going to make at least a few 5020 & 6020 owners very happy, if not ecstatic that they now not only can get the Elite picture adjustments and also ISF modes, but also for such a reasonable price.

One place had it for about $75 but I got the vibe it might be a scam site. I got it for about $110 including shipping from ShopJimmy.com They are in Minnesota and seemed totally legit. They have about 17 in stock. I ordered mine on Tuesday, and it's now en route with a tracking number for Friday delivery.

They don't have anymore in.

That's no big surprise that they would be out of them even though they had 17 a day or so ago, considering how many Pioneer owners are just on this forum and are probably jumping in on doing this. Looking around, some other parts vendors are also sold out on them as well. So you may want to consider just biting the bullet and getting one direct from Pioneer even though the cost is more. As they still, or at least they do for now, show them in stock for $117.68 Which is not that bad when considering some parts vendors are asking as much as $150 for them.

I did attempt to replace my board, but the screws on the back were so tight I accidentally stripped them. I eventually just gave up on the whole idea.

Did you call them or just look at the site? The guy on the phone told me he had 17 in stock on Tuesday. If you have not called them I would try that. Could be there is a run on the boards too.

Sounds like more people are buying these things than just the ones posting on here. Now i have to get the courage to go thru with tearing apart my fine working tv and hoping it works after the swap!

alan just make sure you use a good phillips screwdriver that fits tight in the head of the screws. after working on cars for 25 years i have stripped a few screws out over years with a pmillips that fits a little loose.take your time and i would not use a power screw drive until i broke them loose GOOD LUCK WITH THE SWAP

I know what you mean about the screws. Japanese screws seem to be a little soft too (sometimes even made of brass), which makes it really easy to strip the heads if you use an ill-fitting phillips screwdriver.
