Prepress and Goingpoor, thanks for the look and the compliments. I guess Woodshop came in handy in high school! It's funny, I wanted to get a flat screen back in 2006 and my wife wasn't into it because our current cabinet wasn't large enough and we didn't have anyplace to put it. So I drew a picture of the stand and she went for it.

I really like the Onkyo. I had an Onkyo intigrated amp and tape deck from back in 1995 that were work horses.

Here are some pictures of my stereo in the 1978-1984. It was the vintage Rotel 2000 series and a Teac reel to reel.
RP 9400 turn table
RA 2020 integrated amp
RE 2000 equalizer
RD 2000 tape deck
RT 500 tuner
I still have the Amp and turn table.

Well I made a small change to my system by adding the Onkyo UP-A1 Dock for the iPod. It's mated to the TX-SR707 works well with the I-touch and sounds faily good. I was also having problems with my Sub's amp. The volume control was producing feedback when you would touch it and the Sub's level was not consistent. I contacted Polk and they sent me a new amp and that correct the issues with the feedback and the inconsistent level. I re-ran Audyssey and the bass is much smoother.

I just updated my system with the purchased a Denon AVR-4310ci from the 6th ave electronics going out of business sale. I live close to their warehouse and went there early on the first day of the sale. I got it for a quarter of the MSRP of $2000.00

Thank you, Making the console was the only way the wife would let me get a flat screen!! The only wish I have for this cabnet was to have made the center channel larger. Hind sight is always 20-20. LOL

Prepress thank you for the compliment. Yes the shelves are adjustable. the worst part is I'm up in NJ and we just got 8" of snow and I lost power just after running the Audyssey set up. I only had a 15 minutes to listen the new unit and power will not be back until Thursday.

There are more important issues to contend with in a case like this one than the audio/video system. Patience will be a virtue. I hope you have ways to do what's needed until power is back on.

Were you looking to upgrade your center channel? For a larger center, you might consider swapping places with one of the adjustable shelves left or right of center. I've got mine right of center on the bottom shelf and slightly angled to the center of the listening area. When the lights are out, you don't know the difference.

Sorry to hear about the power outage, what a bummer.

I bought a generater after the last storm and we have lights and heat. I have a 15" LCD with a DVD player built in for family entertainment!! Thank you for the concern. JT

Geoff that's a good idea. I was looking at a new Klipsch RC-42 to match the left and right fronts.

Still no power though. May be Friday. Thanks for the good thoughts.

Absolutely, no power sucks. I haven't been out as long as you though, couldn't imagine.

My center has always been "centered", but since my new set up, my cabinet just has a left and right shelving, plus, I've heard of set ups with "off center" center channels for a certain effect. So I figured what the heck. Take a look at this link to see how my cabinet is set up. My previous bedroom set ups are listed, but further down the way you'll see my current set up in my "cave".

Hey nice upgrade on the receiver! So many seem to go Klipsch/Denon. I know they sound good together but it's funny to see. Still, I bet it's an improvement over the Onkyo, which was itself a pretty decent receiver. Love the speaker stands also. Well done. Keep us updated.

pcweber, The Klisch/Denon combo does sound very good together. I finally got the power back last night after 6 days without it and was able to listen to the 4310. My impressions are that it has a warmer sound then the Onkyo 707. Both units sound very good, but the 707 seemed to be brighter. To me the Denon's extra power and warmer sound is very appealing.

That's one reason I went with Denon when I last purchased a receiver. I need an upgrade though and am looking at the 4310ci. I've found some decent deals but nothing like what you paid!

You mention the Onkyo sounded brighter. Does the Denon seem to have the same or better detail in its sound? Sometimes "warm" gets equated to "less detail" and "bright" to "more detail." That's not always true and I know all this is subjective, but I'm curious.

Thanks! It sounds amazing. The more I listen, better the sound seems. I'm sad the 6th ave electronics is going out of business because they carried some higher end equipment compared to Best Buy, but the sale is insane.

This AVR does seem to be more detailed to me. The Onkyo sounded very good and introduced me to High Def codecs, but the added power seems to drive these Klipsch speakers easier even though they are very efficient. If I had kept the onkyo in the system I was going to add a power amp, which is what many seem to do. I agree sound taste this is very subjective, but I do hear a difference between these two units and I like it very much.

I think you will like this unit, it has so many features and I have only had two good days with it but I like what it has to offer.

I think Denon products generally sound good. I'm not surprised at your findings. I have an old (classic?) Denon TU-800 tuner that sounds very good, even for its advanced years (1989) . I plan to re-purpose it in a smaller system.

Over the past month I have changed some of my gear and wanted to share some of the details and photos.

First I upgraded my AVR, as you can see in the above posts, at the end of October with the Denon AVR-4310ci which sounds incredible!!
I moved out the Panasonic DVD recorder to make room for a larger Center channel speaker.

Klipsch RC-42II is my latest addition. It sits to the right of center because when I made the cabinet I only made the center as big as the center speaker I had at the time which was 14" wide. I’m thinking of a new design/redesign of the current cabinet. I'm very pleased with the sound across the fronts now.

Hi all. It's been a while since I have updated my page. Last night my community had a substantial power surge for more then an hour which fried my desk top PC’s motherboard and literally cooked my FIOS box. However my home theater equipment was saved by my Monster Power conditioner. My bedroom FIOS box cooked on a bad surge suppresser as did the PC. Neighbors on my street lost laptop, desk tops, refrigerators and flat panel TVs, but my equipment was spared. I feel very lucky. 

And THAT is why we put good power protection on our stuff. I have Furman equipment on my stereo and video equipment, and Tripplite on my computer stuff. An old Mondial Magic Brick saved my previous TV from an August 2008 thunderstorm's wrath (my unprotected cable modem wasn't so fortunate, but Time Warner replaced it).

I still like the cabinets, by the way.
