EDID Overrides to solve bitstreaming issues for ATI 5xxx's - Page 43

there's not much to it:

Set ATI HDMI audio driver as default Windows audio device.

Now set up ffdshow audio decoder:
  • Set AC3, E-AC3, TrueHD, MLP & DTS to libavcodec in ffdshow codec tab
  • Check Stream switcher
  • Uncheck Mixer
  • Check Dolby Digital (AC3), Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital Plus, DTS & DTS HD in Output tab.
  • Uncheck Connect as PCM.

I use build 3373 (x32) from STaRGaZeR at doom9.

EDIT:

Are you sure you have selected a TrueHD or DTS HD audio track?
I just went through dbones instructions on getting MPC HC to stream HD Audio. I updated the Realtek Driver, installed Directx, etc.. And I cannot get MPC HC to Stream any HD Audio. MP12 will allow DTS HD MA Passthrough, but no Tru-HD. MPC HC wont Stream any HD Audio at all.

Dbone didnt seem to have much when it came to FFDshow set up that I could see, other then simply checking the Audio options in the SPDIF/HDMI Passthrough, and of course those are already checked.

I'm Striking out!

What is the version of ffdshow that you have installed?

EDIT:

DON'T install the Realtek drivers as those will only give you TrueHD with an EDID override. Use the native 10.4 ATI HDMI audio driver.

Unfortunately that has not helped either. Same as my last post above
post #1265 of 3574
Install the Ati driver for HDMI, not the Realtek one. Install Ati Catalyst 10.4 with the included HDMI audio driver.
Im using FFDshow revision 3406
So should we Uninstall all Realtek Drivers?
Thread Starter
Yes. Use the native ATI HDMI 10.4 audio driver. Otherwise you'll require an EDID override to bistream TrueHD, like I said before.
I uninstalled the Realtek Drivers (odd considering dbones instructions were to get the latest update) and Disabled it from the Sound Devices, making sure the ATI HDMI Audio is the default, but nothing has changed. I have also set up the 5.1 Speakers.
Dbones instructions are outdated, look at the date he made that tutorial. Does bitstreaming work know with TMT3 or PowerDVD or is it the same as MPC-HC with ffdshow ? I have ffdshow version 3342 and 2 Denon receivers (one of which is an 1910) and bitstreaming works fine, so maybe it`s an issue with ffdshow.

How is it outdated? He wrote the guide in Feb 2010 and bitstream was already working with PowerDVD at that point. Dbone's instructions are for MPC-HC and/or native WMC playback. It has nothing to do with PDVD or TMT and his instructions are still current.
I asked if bitstreaming was working with TMT3 or PDVD9/10 to see if it is a general problem or just a problem with MPC-HC and ffdshow.
As for Dbones instructions he mentions :
Quote:

Files to Download:
# Latest FFDShow Beta
# Latest MPC HC
# DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer – necessary to run the latest MPC HC
# Realtek ATI HDMI Audio Device (current R2.39) (5xxx GPU only) or Intel Driver (core i3/i5)

You need the Ati 10.4 drivers for bitstreaming without an EDID override, not the Realtek drivers. Using the Realtek drivers requires and EDID ov. That`s what i was referring too when i said "outdated". The rest of the guide is fine.
Yea, I didnt think it was outdated either. I am trying to find anything regarding FFDshow and any problems with the latest version and TrueHD, but so far, I cant see any issues there.
Well, I solved some of the issue. Apparently if you go to the Media Center Classic website and install from there, you get an Old Version. I had to find a newer version on someone elses download site.. SO now MPC HC is up to version 6.4.9.1 and is Bitstreaming the DTS MA, but when I try to play one with TrueHD, the player does not seem to open all the way, and simply sits there.

I can see the hard drive working, but the player does not actually open and play the movie. I just get the Bar along the bottom with the buttons, the Video Screen does not actually open.

I think I may be getting close.
The latest MPC-HC build can be found here : http://www.xvidvideo.ru/media-player...cinema-x86-x64
I use 1.3.1775.0 and it works fine. Get the latest version from the link above and you should be fine.
I have version 6.4.9.1 --- Is this not correct?
I did install the last version. I noticed with the new one I downloaded, I did not have to install it. I double click the EXE file and it just opens ready to go. Does this sound right?
Lol, that`s not Media Player Classic Home Cinema, that`s Media Player Classic. Two different players dude. You installed the wrong player. Uninstall (or delete, whatever) and get the latest version of MPC-HC from the link i posted above.
Oh Brother!! Who can keep up with them all.. OK, I installed the Latest version of MPC HC, and still sitting in the same boat. I get DTS MA, but TrueHD is passing through as Dolby D.

Oh and its still configured as per Dbones guide.

Scroll down on the page to the part where he walks through the override process, he already updated it to include that information:

4. UPDATE – IT APPEARS THAT WITH THE LATEST ATI CCC RELEASE (10.4) THE EDID ISSUE HAS BEEN FIXED, SO THIS STEP SHOULD NO LONGER BE NEEDED!!! Download and install EDID override (only applies to 5xxx GPU). There appears to be an issue with the ATI drivers not parsing correctly the EDID of certain receivers. Hopefully this will be fixed in an upcoming driver release, but until then you can override the current driver to correct. To make it even more confusing, it appears to only affect Denon, Onkyo, and Sony (but even then not all models). Best idea would be to skip this step completely, set everything up, and if bitstreaming is not working install the EDID override per Tulli’s instructions.
I posted earlier requesting an override to be corrected and informed that I simply needed Catalyst 10.4.

So far I have uninstalled the Realtek driver and disabled anything other then the ATI HDMI Audio control & updated the catalyst to 10.4.

I have applied the settings in FFDShow and tried to play a MKV file that I created with DTSHD Audio in Windows 7 Media Centre and still no sound. Will I get DTSHD using the Windows Player?

I read earlier that I needed to completely remove all traces of previous drivers for this to work, I have only uninstalled 10.3 and installed 10.4 done this! are any of the suggested programs to remove the drivers free and would anyone be so kind in posting a link as I could not fathom out the download page on Guru 3d or whatever site came up when searching?

Thanks again

You can bitstream HD audio over Media Player and Media Center player, but it can get tricky somehow, as you need to make sure that a working combination of filters gets invoked. Typically:
  • Splitter/Demultiplexer (for .mkv it's MPC Matroska Splitter included in MPC-HC standalone filters available at www.xvidvdeo.ru)
  • MPC Video decoder
  • ffdshow audio decoder
Any other combination will screw bitstreaming somehow. Haali, for instance, can work, but for bitstreaming first time it's better to stick to MPC HC Matroska Splitter.

This is all there is, for which native Microsoft filters have to be disabled (with Win7DSFilterTweaker tool), and MPC-HC filters manually registered if necessary.

Looks simple, right? Well, when it doesn't work you need to debug and fix any other filters that get in the way (Graphstudio is an excellent tool for it).

But, if you manage to make it work it can get screwed up again by a Windows update that resets Windows native decoders to preferred.

So, best and easiest solution, especially when you just want to bistream first time, is to install and setup latest version of MPC HC and ffdshow (available on the russian type above) and be done with it.

For Windows Media Center, just invoke MPC HC likewise. This is what I use!

Definitely listen to Tulli on this one. It is just not worth messing around with Windows to get everything to work properly in the native WMC player, and it is very easy to have something get screwed up.

Setting up with MPC is very easy, see my guide here:

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010...7-htpc-part-i/

You can still use MPC with WMC, just use Media Browser or MyMovies, and you can set MPC to launch:

http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010...media-browser/

If you want to try and set up in the WMC player you can see a guide I put together here:

Cheers Fellas.

Just one more specifically for dbone...

I am also using a harmony remote and have all the buttons set up for playback but is there a way of exiting to 7MC with the remote?

I'm off to test it now I think I've set it up as per your info

What do you mean exiting TO 7MC? If I want to go to 7MC my Harmony Remote has a start icon that essentially serves the same purpose as the Green button. If I launch a movie from W7MC/Media Browser to MPC and then hit stop, MPC closes and takes me right back to W7MC. When I hit the power button on my harmony it puts my HTPC to sleep

If I hit stop when I've launched MPC from media browser, there is a black screen and syop in the top left corner?
I have a similar setup to you otherwise

YOu have to assign the Media_Stop key to the exit function in MPC. See my guide posted a few links about about launching MPC from Media Browser, I make reference to
post #1288 of 3574
Cheers, I thought I had done and now that I have, I have a new problem.

I started to play a file, pressed stop and returned to Media Browser.

I have the remember file options checked so when I went to resume playback, there is no sound?

Have you ever experienced this?

(Sorry to keep pestering you!)
Tulli, can you help me out?

I followed your advice last night and I've now completely lost all sound.

I have MPC-HC launching as an external player from Media Browser, picture is fine although no sound!

I've ran graph studio but in all honesty I wouldn't know what to change if it looked out of place!

I'm thinking about uninstalling everything and starting again but I would like to avoid that.

Play a media file with MPC-HC, right click on MPC HC window and select "Filters". Check that ffdshow is the only audio decoder shown on the list.

If it's the only one, see post #1261 above for a quick checklist of what you need to setup in ffdshow.

If it's not the only audio decoder try disabling the other decoder, either by manually unregistering it, or add it to the MPC HC external fiters list and set it to "block".

If ffdshow audio decoder is not shown, make sure to add it to MPC-HC external filters and set it to "prefer".
