I have the Xonar now, but could you explain me how to register the dll ? I have TMT5 installed and I found the asaudiorenderer.dll, what sould I do with it ?

Open a cmd window and type these commands:
CD C:\\Program Files\\ArcSoft\\TotalMedia Theatre 5\\Codec

(or, if you are on Windows x64:

CD C:\\Program Files (x86)\\ArcSoft\\TotalMedia Theatre 5\\Codec ) regsvr32 ASAudioRenderer.dll Then add the Arcsoft Audio Renderer to the External Filters list of MPC-HC. Also add the ffdshow audio decoder and set both to prefer.

Finally set ffdshow output tab by ticking all pass/through audio formats and select "Only Xonar formats" from the drop-down menu list under Compatibility Options.

Of course before doing this make sure that the Xonar is properly set (check bitstreaming with TMT5).

Thank you so much, that works !!

Dolby HD and DTS-HD MA/HR are working both fine with a mkv file, but with a BD I only get DTS-HD MA/HR passing through the HDMI, Dolby HD does not appear on my receiver, and no sound comes through the speakers

With MPC-HC? Right-click on the ffdshow tray icon and see what is being output. It should be a filter problem anyway (splitter?).
Yes, with MPCHC and ffdshow (+ avisynth). I use LAV splitter, Arcsoft audio renderer and madVR as the video renderer. If i let the cursor on the tray icon of ffdshow audio while I am playing a mkv with Dolby TureHD audio track, I see :

Input: Dolby TrueHD 7.1, 48000 Hz, 5844 kbps (bitstream)
Output : HDMI bitstream (1402)

With a BD :

Input : Dolby TrueHD 5.1, 48000 Hz, 3070 kbps (bitstream)
Output : HDMI bitstream (1402)

Looks fine. Try with MPC-HC native splitter instead.
I removed LAV spliter from the external filters list, but it dosen't change anything. If I let the video going on, I still have no sound, but the video lagg..

Does it happen with every BD with a TrueHD track?
I tried with 2 BD, which bitstream of DTHD work with TMT5.

Well, it looks like a bug with BD playback in MPC-HC. Do you have the latest MPC-HC version? Other than that I frankly have no idea. But at least MKV playback works and you can still bitstream BDs without issues with TMT5 (AFAIK also MKVs with latest beta).

I have the lastet version of MPCHC.. Too bad for me, thank you for your help

Hi all (and specifically tulli as he is clearly the guru here )

I have a Samsung ps64d8000 (64" plasma 3D tv) and an Arcam AVR600 (audiophile grade AV receiver).

Theres quite a lot here but I reckon its best to give you all the info I have.

Ive tried following instructions that are available (and have searched widely), but am not getting the results I was hoping for. all relatime EDID extracted using moninfo.

1. The AVR600 does not pass through 3D and the EDID (or whichever subsequent handshakes take place) is not allowing 3D to work. but it does support pretty much every sound format including DTS master and dolby HD.

2. direct HDMI from PC to TV. 3D works, EDID shows only 2 speakers available. pc sound = stereo,

3. So I purchased an HDMI 1.4 2:1 splitter. Thinking what I can do is modify the samsung EDID to include the additional audio data from the Arcam's EDID. both devices get what they need. win.

3.a. testing the principle of duplicated signal with the HDMI splitter. realtime EDID shows Samsung. duplicated HDMI stream to Arcam works, but is only 2 channel (Samsung EDID). 3D works with PowerDVD 11 (I also have arcsoft TMT, but not convinced it is a better product). pc sound = stereo.

3.b. modified Samsung .inf file (as output from realtime moninfo) so that second hex line is replaced with second hex line from Arcam .inf file. replaced as monitor driver, reboot. pc sound = 7.1 . 3D does not work.

3.c. as above but reloaded the modified .inf file into moninfo and then resaved it from moninfo. no change to results in 3.b

4. tried modified .inf without splitter box connected through Arcam (as its a registry override - which gets precedence - the realtime EDID should be ignored). pc sound = 7.1. as soon as you run a 3D signal, the Arcam throws a black screen with an error message "invalid video type". I have to reboot the PC/directly connect HDMI to screen to get a signal displayed again.

So as a result I've drawn the following conclusions (the may be incorrect its just based on what I know)

4. indicates I will not be able to passthrough my 3D signal as the Arcam will get in the way.

3.a. proves the splitter works with 3D

3.b. and 3.c. prove I havent got the .inf file right. I worry there is an additional handshake for 3D that isnt just about EDID.

Can anyone advise or help ?

(here are my realtime .inf outputs from moninfo)

The attached EDID override should work with the splitter.

you are very kind - I will try this as soon as I get home.

Out of curiosity - how exactly does your process of combining them work ? was I clearly doing it wrong ?

You need to replace only the audio and speakers blocks of the Samsung EDID with the Arcam's, not the complete extension block (second line in the .inf file), as 3D specs are in fact encoded in the Vendor Specific Data block (VSDB) of the Samsung EDID (in the extension block).
ahaa. I suspected this might be the case, but couldnt find any clear guidance or breakdown of what each of the hex words actually controls.

Good job there is an expert in residence on the subject.

I will fire up your kindly supplied override when I get home and let you know.

many thanks tulli, works perfectly !

Hi, I've been having a similar problem to the previous poster (though nowhere near as fancy kit). I am trying to pass 5.1 audio from an ATI HD5450 through HDMI to my TV (LG 47LH5000) then optical digital out from TV to a home theater system (LG HB965TZ).

I have done some experimenting with EDIDs based on previous comments, initially I just installed the Home theater EDID as monitor driver, which allowed windows sound config to set up to 7.1 output. With 5.1 selected the FL and FR sound came out of RL and RR and no sound from any other speakers.

I guessed it might require more finesse, so replaced the audio hex entries from the Home theater over the audio entries in the LGTV inf file and tried that as the driver. Again I can see the options for up to 7.1 but in this case nothing is being passed through at all.

I would be concerned that my TV was not capable of properly passing audio through but I have an xbox360 connected and set to surround sound and with a 5.1 test file it outputs perfectly.
For the HD5450 I am using the latest catalyst drivers (not using the realtek HDMI driver). My realtime EDIDs were obtained with MonInfo, used EDID manager to locate the hex sections to change, and then edited them in notepad.

I have (hopefully) uploaded a zip containing realtime output from LG47LH5000 TV and LGHB965TZ Home theater setup (and also my attempt at merging the two), if anyone can help I would be very grateful, this has been bugging me for a while.

Also, hello everyone, first time on AVSforum

The native EDID of the LG47LH5000 has 6-AC3 capability (no DTS), but no speakers descriptor. I've attached a modded EDID with 6-LPCM, 6-AC3 & 6-DTS,
but please note, as it's always a matter of confusion, that S/PDIF bandwidth is just enough for 2 channels uncompressed LPCM and 6 channels compressed audio (e.g. AC3 or DTS passthrough). This means that you can only get windows test tones for 2 channels.

Hi, thanks a lot for your help and clarification of how it works, I've used the modded EDID, and with some tweaking in AC3 filter managed to passthrough everything correctly using an AC3 test file in MPC-HC. I need to get the same working in XBMC, which doesn't use AC3filter and seems to have sparser audio settings, but at least now I know it is just software/codec issues so thanks again

Hi, I had some issue with my Onkyo 308 + LG tv, I tried an override but it messed up my main monitor, dell U2410. Now I can't restore my 24' as it were before. I tried uninstalling, install the dell official inf.

Please advise. Thx

Hi there,

I have a Samsung LCD LE46A786 which should be capable of AC3 over HDMI. Windows 7 only detects 2 channel support. Here's my monitor realtime file.

Could you help me?

You need to uninstall the EDID override incorrectly applied to the Dell monitor driver. See 1st post on this thread for instructions.

Thx, in the uninstall instruction, instead of :

Menu option "View" [Select]
Monitors [Select]

It should be 'Show hidden devices'. That's why I didn't see the EDID override.

If in my ATI DHMI Output, I see the Max number of channel 6 ans DTS-HD supported, that would mean I'm capable of retrieving data from my Onkyo amp, correct ? I shouldn't need the override ?
