EDID Overrides to solve bitstreaming issues for ATI 5xxx's - Page 101

Are Dolby TrueHD and DTSHD listed on the "Supported Formats" Window for the AMD HDMI audio device? If so then the problem is with TMT5. Try reinstalling (uninstall/install) the software given that there is a new graphic card.

Yes they are. I was able to bitstream initially after installing the card (1st thing I checked otherwise I would have rma'd it). I'll try reinstalling Tmt5 again, thanks.

Hi, I have a Panasonic TV (TH-42U30Q) and a Samsung home theatre system (HT-D4500). I'm trying to get 5.1 channel audio when I plug in a laptop via HDMI straight to the TV (Samsung has no HDMI input :/ ) but it's only detected 2 channels. I'm hoping I can use an EDID override to enable 6 channel audio which will hopefully get passed through to the Samsung. I read that most TVs only pass through 2 channels from HDMI, but i'm trying my luck.

I've attached my moninfo realtime data. It currently shows this audio:

CE audio data (formats supported)
LPCM 2-channel, 16-bit at 32/44/48 kHz

I'd like it to be something like the second sample file:

CE audio data (formats supported)
LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48/88/96/176/192 kHz
LPCM 6-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48/88/96 kHz
AC-3 6-channel, 448k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz
AAC 6-channel, 384k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz
DTS 6-channel, 1536k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz

CE speaker allocation data
Channel configuration.... 5.1
Front left/right......... Yes
Front LFE................ Yes
Front center............. Yes
Rear left/right.......... Yes
Rear center.............. No
Front left/right center.. No
Rear left/right center... No
Rear LFE................. No

Is someone able to edit the EDID? Is this worth trying?

I've attached the EDID override but note that 2-channels uncompressed audio (2-LPCM) is the max possible for S/PDIF bandwith. You can only send 5.1 compressed audio (e.g. AC3 or DTS) over S/PDIF. Read first post or search through the thread for more info.

AFAIK there's no way of sending 6-channel AAC. Only possibility is real-time encoding to DD or DTS (or 2-LPCM).

Makes sense. Well thanks for the override but I'm getting some weird display issues now. I can't set screen res any higher than 720p else i get a blank screen. Playback devices still shows Panasonic-TV with max 2 channels.

moninfo shows the attached under registry-active - i thought this looked weird since there's no audio info in there. It may be to do with my previous attempt to install my own override which didn't work.

Hi i have a problem i hope you can help me !

I had a ATI HD5670 card and used ATI HDMI Driver 2.67 from Realteks Page and it worked perfectly with Dolby Home Theater !

Yesterday i bought a ATI HD7770 card and installed it with ATI HDMI Driver 2.67 it says not connected. However if i install it with AMD HDMI Driver it works, says connected but i cant use it with Dolby Home Theater.I wanna be able to use it with Dolby Home Theater.
Is there any way to make the ATI HDMI Driver force connect ?Maybe alter INF file?
Maybe i need an EDID file ,if so can you make one?
I have a ONKYO TXNR609 and a Samsung Smart TV UE40D8005 [3D TV].
Please try help me guys !I think my card HD7770 is so new that Realtek needs to update that HDMI driver 2.67 its from december 2011,and when i wrote to them. The didnt want to help.Sorry for my bad english and also if i posted this wrong.

Post both real-time EDIDs and I'll produce a merged EDID override (see 1st. post for instructions). Of course, with your new card use the native AMD HDMI driver & not the realtek.

Hello,
I'm trying to merge data from my Sony KDL46EX521 and my 5.1 Sony A/V system but unfortunately, my A/V system does not have an HDMI input so I cannot analyze it. I do know that it supports 5.1 DD, DTS, and Pro Logic II. Can anyone help me add this data to my TV's moninfo data? Here is what it currently shows:

CE audio data (formats supported)
LPCM 2-channel, 16/20/24 bit depths at 32/44/48 kHz
AC-3 6-channel, 640k max. bit rate at 32/44/48 kHz

CE speaker allocation data
Channel configuration.... 2.0
Front left/right......... Yes
Front LFE................ No
Front center............. No
Rear left/right.......... No
Rear center.............. No
Front left/right center.. No
Rear left/right center... No
Rear LFE................. No

Thank you for your help!

Number of channels is correct for uncompressed audio over S/PDIF. Please read previous posts on the subject a/o update on 1st. post.

I've only added DTS capability to the Sony TV EDID.

Wow! Thanks for the very prompt reply. Very much appreciated. I will be sure to test this once I get home. Just a quick question though: I had read your first post where you said that streaming 6-channel uncompressed audio through SPDIF is impossible, which is fine. However, my receiver also supports 5.1 Dolby Digital (which is what my Cable PVR and PS3 use.) Any way I can add this to the EDID as well? Thanks again for your help.

No need of it as it was already present.

Well, I updated my driver with your file and it shows up as EDID Override so I know that it's working. When I check the Sound Options however, my Max Number of Supported Channels is 2, although I see DTS has been added to the Encoded Formats list.

In any case, with some tinkering in MPC HC and AC3Filter, I have 5.1 surround sound! Thank you immensely for your help.

I'm trying to get my TV to pass thru DTS / AC-3 to my receiver instead of just sending stereo. Sadly i've already installed an override file from the 1st post. So getEDID is now showing a denon instead of my LG TV. Are the Files still usable?

Uninstall the EDID override and use moninfo to capture the real-time EDID (see 1st. post for instructions).

Captures only included the base block, so I had to use the extended block from compatible devices in my EDID DB for the mod.

Did you already check 1st post for latest update on 3D? Basically, to get HD-audio you need separate connections.
So using an override will not pass HD-audio to the receiver? My video card can't bitstream HD-audio anyway so I just send multi-channel PCM to my receiver. Is it possible for you to create the override for me anyway as I want to do some testing with my current setup.

Thanks in advance.

Should work for your setup. Are all formats listed on the "Supported Formats" window of the HDMI audio device? Also, what is your display adapter? Which player are you using?

So all audio formats show up on the "Supported Formats" panel of the HDMI audio device properties? If so there's no EDID detection issue. Problem should be Potplayer related but I can't help you with that.
