EDID Overrides to solve bitstreaming issues for ATI 5xxx's - Page 113

Hello,
I just built my first HTPC (i3 3225 - ASRock H77 m-itx) wit XBMC. Now I am struggling with the DTS-HD passthrough. I am absolutely new to this topic.... If this thread is only about ATI fixes please ignore this reply....

In the control panel DTS-HD and True-HD is not listed as supported codecs...

PC (i3 3225) -> Denon 1909 -> Samsung 40B750

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

I've been reading a lot tonight on how to get this problem fixed. Here's the situation. Just got a 5450 to be able to run a single HDMI cable from my PC to the HDTV and then pass the audio through SPDIF to my surround sound. So current'y I'm going 5450>HDMI>Samsung UN55C6300>SPDIF> Samsung 5.1CH Bluray Home Theater System HTC5500.

As you can probably expect since I am here, I'm not getting DTS or DD 5.1 to work as a pass through. My AMD HDMI Output Supported formats says max channels is 2(Which I now know is as high as it will get) and no compressed formats are found.

Ending up here I decided to install the *) Samsung LNS4095D SONY STRDA5300ES inf. This actually helped out a ton. 90% of my files are now working properly. The change was that Dolby Digital 5.1 audio no properly works in 5.1, but anything in DTS does not. For now I'm running my DTS audio decoding on the pc and basically passing stereo through to the TV/Receiver. I'm incredibly grateful for this post because it's made the majority of the headache I was having go away. I was wondering though if there is anything you guys might suggest to get the rest of this working. I know that the receiver I am using supports DTS, the manual states this in a note "This system supports only DTS and Dolby Digital audio, MPEG audio which is bitstream cannot be supported". So I have to assume it has something to do with the 5450's HDMI audio driver still. DTS is listed in the compressed formats after installing the EDID override so I'm at a bit of a loss.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance, and I apologize if this has been addressed elsewhere, I must have missed it.

Most, if not all, TVs won't passthrough native DTS, but only DTS encapsulated in WAV/PCM format:

Do you get only stereo? Check that DENON HDMI is set to AMP, or something like that (no replication of the TV audio specs).

Thanks for the info. Was it ever figured out if ffdshow could do the conversion? Never saw a clear answer to that so I thought I would ask.

I need the real-time, 256-bytes EDIDs. These are only 128-bytes.
Tulli does this only work on 5xxx cards? I to a 4350 Hooked up to my un46eh5300 samsung and used the Samsung Sony * override with no luck.

It works since Vista with every graphic adapter except Intel IGPs.

They're wrong again but I checked and have the ACER H5360 EDID in my DB.

Thanks for your help but it looks like 3D video and audio are just too hard to achieve for nvidia sadly. As you can see from the pic my pc thinks its the acer but nvidia knows better.

Do a cleanup of registry leftovers as outlined in section 4 in 1st. post.
I followed step 4 and still no go. I even uninstalled the pnp mon and let windows find it again. I reinstalled your .inf and it still doesen't think its the acer pj. In the picture above it says acer because I opened the .inf and changed the name at the bottom to acer thinking perhaps it's something as easy as that, but that didnt work ether well except to change the name windows was seeing. here is a pic of the unaltered one you gave me installed.

Hi @ all.
Thanks so much to tulli to have reported this issue and take care of it smile.gif

I've an AMD APU A4-3300. And I can't bitstream.

My seller, change mw without cost with a FM2 APU, a A4-5300 with the Radeon HD 7480D.
With the 7480D Radeon card IGP , this bug is still present?

Thanks so much,

HS

Could be a player issue. Are TrueHD and DTS HD listed for the HDMI Aiudio Device? Is your AVR set to not passthrough TV audio?

First of all, thanks for your answer,

I've the Onkyo Ht-R380 and an LG 42LH3000.

I've tried 3 different PC, APU Radeon 6410D, Intel Graphics 4000, and an AMD RADEON 6870 .

In every PC i've tried PowerDVD, TMT5 and Media player classic with ffdshow.
I've tried with Blu ray disc and sample trailer with both dts-hd and dd-truehd.

I've never see the Dts-hd or truehd led lights up on the Onkyo decoder!

Insted with the PlayStatio3 it works flawlessy. Both truehd and dts-hd ma works well!

By the way, I see the supported codec "dts-hd and truehd" in all the configuration in the audio device, and my avr is setted to not passtrought throu tv audio.
As attachment you cold find the mominfo of my tv + AV...if you please can generate the edid override...hope it help...

Tulli & all, Would an EDID override of some sort help my situation as follows?:

I had an existing setup as follows that worked great.

HTPC (Nvidia gts450)->>>HDMI Spliitter->>>>one output to a Pioneer VSX-01 (Samsung Plasma) and the other to a Pioneer VSX-21 (Epson projector). This worked great to output the HTPC to either AVR/display both individually or at the same time. I originally turned on the HTPC with just the VSX-21 connected to the splitter which Windows 7 would from then on report as the attached device even with the VSX-01 attached to the splitter.

So now the problem, I switched out the VSX-21 for a Denon 4311, Now I can only have the display work on one device. When I first installed the Denon win7 still thought the 21 was attached and the display showed through the VSX-01 but not the Denon (although audio worked.) So I restarted the computer with just the Denon and HTPC plugged into the splitter. After doing that Win7 sees the Denon as a monitor and audio device and I can get the display to work however now their is no display through the VSX-01 when also connected to the splitter. I realize now that this worked originally because the Pioneers were basically the same AVR. So is there a way to create an EDID so that even though the HTPC would see the Denon that it would still pass the proper info for the pioneer to work?

Thanks in advance!

PS Double posted this in the other edid thread as not sure which is right

Thanks! You're great! biggrin.gif

I've just tried this edid override...but I still can't get DTS-HD nor TRUEHD bitstreaming :/

I CAN Bitstream DTS and DD (just like before ). But not the HD ones.
I've tried 3 different PCs with 3 different videocard (6870, 6410D and intel 4000) and the same result: no HD bitstream , but DTS/DD bitstream works.

With playstation3 instead, everything is working...It's really a mess...I don't know what to do...if I had to spend money to buy another AVR frown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

There is no way because, as you've already realized, the HTPC only sees one display device connection with one EDID. Only alternative is a switch instead of a splitter, it that works for you.

Which video player are you using? If you see TrueHD and DTS-HD as supported the problem is not EDID related.

I'm using Powerdvd 11, powerDVD 12, TMT5 and mpc-hc with ffdshow . I've the same behavious. DTS-HD and True-HD content are reproduced as DTS and DD.

I don't see TrueHD or DTS-HD led on the receiver, but I can see them on the audio proprerties on control panel.

With powerDVD I've 2 options in the audio panel: PCM and DTS/DD . Maybe I should see another option for the HD formats?

Intel IGPs (e. g. HD4000) don't accept EDID overrides, But it should work on your AMD equipped PCs. As your AVR is 5.1 there's the glitch with bitstreaming HD audio in AMD drivers, but this is precisely what the EDID mod fixes by fooling the AMD driver into detecting a 7.1 audio capable device.

Thanks again for your support,
but now i'm a little bit confused. I'all ask you some direct and short questiona to well understand the situation.

1) The AMD bug is still present on 6000 and/or 7000 series other than 5xxx ?

2) With the intel HD 4000 everything should work with my Onkyo R380 right?

3) When I try to decode DTS-HD TrueHD audio, in my Onkyo arrives the non-hd version of the audio and lights up DTS and DD led. This the supposed behaviour of the bug?

4) In PowerDVD 11/12 audio pane, other than "PCM "DTS/DD" should I seed a third option , someting like "DTS-HD / TrueHD" or not?

Thanks in advance!

1) The bug is in the drivers, not the hardware.
2) That's correct.
3) Not decoding, but bitstreaming: only plain DD and DTS are bitstreamed.
4) Yes.

Only other reasons that may affect HD audio bitstreaming capability are:

1) A non-HDTV standard resolution (1080p/i or 720p), which is not your case.
2) An HDCP violation. Do you have AnyDVDHD installed? You may try it.
3) Are you using Vista perhaps?
4) Cables.
5) Also, try switching to a different HDMI-in port on the AVR.

Holy crap! biggrin.gif Thanks! biggrin.gif

1) So it doesn't change anything if I switch from a 5000 to a 6000 radeon. The bug is still there.

3) With my configuration are bistreamed Both DD and DTS. But not the HD version.

4) I think that my problem it isn't the bug. Even with my notebook and HD 4000 I can't bitstream HD Audio...:/

I'll try to change the tv, check hdcp and cables.

Just one more question:

Bug is limited to Onkyo sony and denon, right? If i'll buy a yamaha AVR 5.1 i should be ok?

The bug is related to AMD drivers and any 5.1-only AVR.
