Hello everyone. I also have this problem. Im using laptop ASUS K55V with intel integrated video and Nvidia GT 630M; TV Panasonic TX-L42ET5E and DVD player LG HT503PH-DH. Im connecting Asus--->hdmi--->TV Panasonic--->optical cable--->LG dvd player. I just installed the custom edid from Tulli (tnx a lot for his efforts and help) but still i only get 2 chanels. What should i do ??? I have installed the custom edid like it said on the first page.

Again, and again, and again: 2 channels is correct, even if misleading (if you mean WIndows detection)! It means: 2 channels uncompressed audio (LPCM), which is the maximum bandwidth for S/PDIF. If you want to sent multichannel compressed audio just set your application to do so. But it will work only for AC3. DTS will only work when encapsulated in a WAV stream. Best solution for S/PDIF is just using an optical or coaxial cable for audio.

Sorry Tulli. Im still learning. So what softawre should i use, because i tried couple of soft and even when i set audio to 5.1 in sent me stereo signal to dvd player. May be i should use media server and stream trough wifi on the tv. In that way i always have 5.1 signal. It will be good to have 5.1 signal through hdmi, bit if i am not able to set it may be its ok. But i will appreciate if you can help me get multichanel with my hdmi smile.gif

I also upload screen pic from my device manager just to make sure the settings there are correct. 111.jpg 158k .jpg file

Just set any video player you like to passthrough 5.1 DD (no decoding by the player). Check that after applying the EDID override DD and DTS are listed as supported formats for the HDMI audio device. Also, make sure that the HDMI audio device is selected or is set as default in Windows.

I have tried Kmplayer, powerdvd 12, vlc player and wmc and there is no change. Tried all sound options but still only 2 chanels. But i tried a music video which is 5.1. When i play this video song trhough wifi its ok, but through hdmi only stereo frown.gif I dont know what to do more to get 5.1 sound through hdmi for listening music and watching movies. I only want 5.1 chanels frown.gif

Are DD and DTS listed as supported formats for the HDMI audio device? I don't use any of those players but here's a link to set up VLC to 5.1 passthrough:

http://techyfuzz.com/how-to-setup-5-1-audio-output-in-vlc-player/

IIRC PDVD must be set to "non-decoded audio" or something like that.
I still only see only 2 chanels like pic i'va uploaded frown.gif I've done VLC player settings but i guess my audio settings in panel control are not OK. 222.jpg 109k .jpg file

The problem is not the 2 channels but that no compressed formats are listed.

But now I see that it's an Intel Device and Intel IGPs do NOT accept EDID overrides. So with an Intel Graphic Adapter the only solution in your case is to use an optical or coaxial cable with the onboard Realtek audio device.
Ok last ask. Can you send me pics of optical and coaxial cable i need to buy. And if i understand i connect one of these cable from TV to DVD player right. Because on my laptop i only have hdmi out ?

Ouch, this is getting complicated.

As for cables any standard S/PDIF optical or coaxial cable will do. But connection should run from the laptop to the LG DVD player, through perhaps a USB-S/PDIF sound adapter (like this one).

But if your laptop has a DisplayPort there's a trick for enabling S/PDIF, as seen here.

Tnx again Tulli for your help. May be i have one more option if i get 5.1 usb soundcard ill see what i will do. For now my wifi media transfer is doing OK so i will use it.

Hi, first of all: you guys are doing a great job here!!! I'm about to build a new HTPC and don't want to buy the wrong hardware :-) because I have to override EDID ...

Here is my setup:

Denon AVR 2310
Panasonic TX-P50VT50E 3D

Do you recommend an AMD A10-5700 system for HTPC with integrated 7660D-VGA Core? Are there any issues known? Or is it easier to override an i3 with HD4000 system?

Thanks for your help,

newkey

You shouldn't require an EDID override anyway, but the HD4000 cannot be EDID-overriden.
Thx for your fast reply. I'm going with the AMD system then. How come I won't need EDID override? The Denon 2310 has only HDMI 1.3a - so no 3d passthrough. What am I missing?

Use separate connections: DVI-HDMI to display device and HDMI to the AVR in extended mode. With a single connection (and an EDID override) bitstreaming of HD Audio is not possible over an HDMI1.3 AVR (see 1st. post for more details or search through the thread).

You'll require an AMD DVI-HDMI adapter for the DVI port. If you choose the Intel any DVI/HDMI adapter or cable will do.

i am using a radeon 6320 hd gfx on my media pc that is connected to my samsung UN55D8000 via hdmi. when selecting my audio in the playback settings i can only configure the audio to stereo and not 5.1 audio (i have a 5.1 surround system hooked to my tv optical out). i am trying to edit the edid for the tv with no avail. my edid says its only 2 channel, i would like to set it to 6 ( think that would fix it) so that i can have the option to use 5.1 surround. can anybody help me out and edit my edit for me to fix the problem

thank you for your speedy reply.

i see from the link that I would be better off running audio thru my optical out on my media pc; however when doing so i have a small delay in audio, it is enough to drive anybody with a keen eye crazy while watching people talk on the tv. is there any way that i can change a system setting to reduce the delay in all optical audio out? my pc is running windows 7 ultimate x64.

the setup runs like this:
media pc -> tv (via hdmi for video/audio but can do optical for sound [with delay] and hdmi for video) -> receiver (via optical out from tv)

No. Hotplug detection is resolved by the graphic driver.
