EDID Overrides to solve bitstreaming issues for ATI 5xxx's - Page 117

I've been dealing with some issues ever since I bought my Onkyo TX-SR508 over a year ago. I've never been able to resolve it, so I thought I'd give this a try if you can help out.

I'm using an ATI HD 5450 as output to an Onkyo SR508. I was using HDMI for audio, but am currently under SPDIF, which did not resolve my dropouts when resuming from standby. I just have never gotten around to changing it back. The TV is an old Samsung plasma HP-S5053X. Files for both are attached in link below (it won't let me attach). If I've left anything out just let me know. Thanks!

The native resolution of that old plasma is 1366 x 768, i. e. non HDTV standard, which is required for bitstreaming of HD audio. Solution is separate connections to the TV and AVR (or setting the TV to 1280x720).

Really? I must be missing something; it works on my setup (HD 5450 @1360x768 to Sony AVR HDMI1.4 to HDMI "DVI PC" input of a P50C490). Bitstreams fine. The recognized device by the HTPC is the AVR.

Used the Samsung + Onkyo (should work for most Onkyo AVRs) one and it's working!

I am running an AMD A10 with built-in AMD 7660D and am having trouble getting bitstreaming of HD audio to work. I can use a number of the EDID override files here to get bitstreaming (I have use: "Samsung UE40ES7000 + 5.1HDaudio" and "Samsung ES6800 - ONKYO TX-SR309", the link for the 3D samsung LCD TV plus Onkyo receiver EDID in the first post is no longer working), and while they will fix the bitstreaming, it will break 3D. By 3D I mean 3D blu-rays, I will get sound but no picture. If I uninstall the override I get 3D blu-ray playback back, but lose bitsreaming. Tulli, I would be extremely grateful if you could help me out. I have captured my EDID's and attached them below.

TV - Samsung UN55C800

Captures are only 128-bytes, but use the attached Samsung 3D compatible mod (I have also fixed the broken link on 1st. post).

I just tried that one but DTS-HD did not work. Also, I tried recapturing my EDIDs with Moninfo, running as administrator, but I still did not get the 256-byte EDID, I could not find the HKR,EDID_OVERRIDE,"1 line. Any idea what I might be doing wrong, the version I have is 2.60.xxxx.

If the problem is only audio there's no need to worry about a new capture.

But the posted override should work. Does TrueHD work?

I will check tonight if TrueHD works.

My original problem was always just audio, everything (including 3D BDs) would work except HD audio. On the same system, if I used the Intel HD2000, everything would work, tried a 6570, couldn't bitstream HD audio, use EDID overrides and I would lose 3D (but gain HD audio bitstreaming). I even tried a GT610 but that was a HDCP nightmare. So I thought switching to an A10 + A75 chipset would fix everything, but it didn't. I have tried driver cleaners, uninstalled everything but still no luck. If I can't get it to work this week, I am going to try a full windows clean install this weekend, but I want to do that as a last resort.

The AVR is STR-DH520.

Both with PDVD10 and TMT5.

Hi people,

I've spent some late evenings the past days trying to get my head around playing TrueHD and DTS MA from my HTPC.
Although I can see most of the equipment used by the forum members are far superior to mine, it should be capable of playing hd audio.

At the moment I'm not sure if my problem is EDID related or driver related, but I've been fooling around with MonInfo and only DTS and Dolby Digital shows up under
'supported formats' with CCC 12.10. With Microsoft HD audio driver installed no supported formats are listed.


I have tried the EDID override "LG PK-350 - ONKYO HT-R380", this had all supported formats listed and seemed to fix my occasional handshake issue (no input.. ),
but after trying to play an HD audio sample no sound, no matter what type, would play until I rebooted the computer.


HTPC (ZBOX AD02 - AMD Radeon HD6310) -> AVR (LG HB965DF) -> TV (LG 50PK350).


I really don't know what to try next and I really hope any of you would be bothered giving me some pointers! smile.gif

The AVR is STR-DH520.

Have you double-checked the actual resolution on the TV? Are you sure that it still is 1360x768 during playback?

Use AMD drivers, not Microsoft's. That override you tried fixes the problem with bitstreaming of HD audio with 5.1 AVRs and AMD drivers, so the problem with handshaking/no sound is driver related. IIRC 12.10 tends to give this issue of no sound. Try latest versions.

I was already using AMD drivers, but now I did a clean install of CCC 13.10. Still no Hd audio, and still the odd problem with sound "locking up" after hd audio sample making it unable to play any audio until reboot.

Was using the edid override btw

Neither TrueHD or DTS-HD work, but 3D (blu-ray) does work prior to installing an EDID override.

When I install an override, both TrueHD and DTS-HD work, but 3D (blu-ray) does not work. When playing a 3D blu-ray, I get sound but no picture, it makes the TV flicker and gives a message of no input.

The LG HB965DF EDID only shows 2LPCM and 6AC3 capability. The audio descriptor is the exact replica of the LG 50PK350 audio descriptor. Check the HB965DF HDMI setup and set it to NO passthrough of the TV audio.

No such available setting on my budget system I'm afraid. frown.gif
I disconnected the tv output on the avr while running moninfo, so I have no clue
why the descriptors are the same.

After getting my HTPC outputting audio as it should last week thanks to Tulli, I have discovered a new problem. My Sky box (PVR) has now stopped outputting Dolby Digital. Sky boxes can only send DD via optical, not HDMI, but since I did the EDID, the override is forcing it to send sound via HDMI (only stereo). Has anybody else had this problem?

Edit - Now fixed. The Optical had been disabled, and could only be changed back via the LED screen on the amp itself, not the onscreen menu rolleyes.gif

Yes, the desktop resolution is 1360x768 (with 1:1 pixel maping, black pixels on both sides to fill to the native 1366x768), set as "basic" from CCC (or whatever it's called these days), however I realized the tv reports 1080@60. So, yes, this is what I missed, and your statement still stands correct. Sorry for the diversion.

I'm having the age old ATI 5*** problem with my new AV.
No HD Dolby or DTS, throughput only standard. Please Help rolleyes.gif

I have checked and re-checked my MPC/ ffdshow settings,
and I've tried every Samsung INF i could find on the thread, before asking for your time.

Gave that one a try tonight. Same thing, bitstreaming works, 3D does not work. This is driving me nuts, no idea why my set up is so hard to get working. I uninstalled all other codecs tonight (Shark007) to see if that made a difference, didn't do anything.

Read 1st. post and through the thread on the subject: 2-channels detection for S/PDIF bandwidth is correct (even if confusing; means 2-LPCM uncompressed audio).

You only need an EDID override if AC3 and DTS are not detected at all. So check the listed supported formats for the HDMI audio device. If they're there just set your video player to send an undecoded AC3 or DTS audio stream and it'll work.
