Does your new sony have separate controls for motion blur and dejudder like samsung does? Are you able to turn dejudder off and still get the benefits of 120 hz, or is dejudder blundled with the 120hz like last year?

I plan to buy either the 40" EX700 or the NX700. Has anyone seen these side by side? NX700 list is $300 more than the EX700.

I don't think I care about the internet widgets, but the built in wifi on the NX700 is appealing. Biggest question for me is the "Deep Black Panel" on the NX, and the nearly 10 lb. weight difference. Does anyone know what "Deep Black Panel" is? Could it account for the greater weight?

The suspicion is (although not confirmed) is that the NX series could utilize UV2A panels. If this proves to be true than the extra $300 is well worth it.

Went to Costco today and I saw the Ex701 on display. Same TV as the EX700. It looked very nice. I did see however that the screen does dim when the screen gets dark as is known with Edge lit LED tv's. Also worth noting is the TV cost 200 hundred less at costco then I saw the EX700 price at the Sonystyle store.

I got one coming in 7-14 business days, I will try and get a close up with my macro lens.. if someone doesn't get a close up shot first.

The settings look like how a lousy retailer would set them: for maximum brightness, contrast and gain. That's not what you want. Get one of the video setup Blu-ray discs and it will help you adjust those settings. Bring the R, G, B gain, backlight and picture back down to the center setting and start from there. Give you eyes a chance to get used to the new settings. If you want to begin before you get a setup disc, put in a BD movie and concentrate on getting the flesh tones and the blacks right. And remember that a movie is not supposed to look like a soap opera - it's supposed to look like film: warm and deep with somewhat limited contrast. That will get you into the ballpark.

i would like to know if the sony ex700 series presents the high quality

picture that is virtually identical to the samsung led models---

6000,7000,8000.etc.

if so,i feel that this tv would be a spectacular bargain given the size,price

performance ratio.

Has anyone compared it to a Z5100 or XBR9? Is it better or worse PQ-wise?

Is the 700 series worth $500 more than the 500 series? The differences are bravia engine 3 vs 2, LED edge vs CCFL backlighting, and internet/dnla stuff and auto dimming / power off on the 700's.

Hmmmm... that is alot of extras now that I think about it.

I guess what it comes down to then is the LED edge vs CCFL backlight. Pro's? Con's?

How is the off-angle viewing? Does the picture fade or get washed out if you are watching it out on a side angle?

There's a 60" EX700 at my BB. Off-axis viewing seems to have gotten a little worse (minimal but noticeable) than the CCFLs. May be more noticeable in a home setting.

How come you turned it up? Do find the TV dim if you don't. Are you watching in a well lit room or something?

I ask because your current settings are referred to as "TORCH Mode".....basically everything cranked to make the TV have visual pop under the harsh lighting of a big box store like BB.

Usually the first thing you do is crank that stuff way down. We have very different Sony LCD sets (KDL-40D3000) but as a comparo my backlight is set at 2, picture is set at 80. Having the backlight cranked washes the colors out, makes the whites searing and washes out the blacks.
