True, the i-Manual on 2/7 of the TVGOS says you need connection to your cable service or an OTA feed. That doesn't work for me. Only the internet works.
The EX700 uses version 10 of TVGOS. It has 24 hours of listings. Earlier versions have more information. It doesn't hurt to enable the guide. It might hurt to play with it too much. It hurt me to the point of a full reset after mapping several channels from their clear QAM numbers to the guide numbers. So don't do that.
You have indicated internet access on previous posts. So go into setup and change the program information source to TV Guide. Then use the Guide button to run through its setup and select internet as the data source. None of this is related to cable or OTA or STB. All that matters is the internet interface.
I never use it, mainly since I get a guide from my DVR. I still use the remote from my XBR9 since those rings on the EX700 remote are too close for my fat fingers. It doesn't have a Guide button.
After looking at the guide you can always turn it off. There are earlier posts about how effective that is, but you will need to judge. If you now get full PSIP data on your banner from your feed, there isn't any advantage to the guide. Unless you want to know what's on tonight. Nothing that you can't discover from the many online guides (like TVGuide.com). But this is fun to play with at times. There are other side-effects too, like channel labeling and time setting being disabled. But you can always turn off the guide. I wish it was that easy to edit the XBR.
